I'm with Garnt on this one. It is my favourite manga, and there is genuinely good character development in later parts of the story. And I will die on this hill.

the fact that school days is mentioned is a massive insult to domestic girlfriend, i couldn't even get past episode 1 of school days while Domestic girlfriend i binge watch/read that stuff
School day is all about suffering through it for the massive pay off at the end.
School Days was such a bore to slog through.
The plain-ness of the anime is further enhanced by some scenes having no background music
And the payoff at the last episode was definitely not worth the pain of watching this anime

I read all of Domestic Girlfriend in 2 days a few years ago after watching the anime. It was the biggest binge-read I've ever done and I'm completely serious when I say that it actually had really good writing. Yes it's insane but I think it's the situations rather than the choices and characterization. Don't worry Garnt my brother we know peak when we see it. And of course: "If she ain't blood related she's free to be dated" - Garnt 2019

great writing? they are beating the same horse for 30 chapter until they move on another one, i can go in to deep like really deep dive analysis on how bad and cliche it is i could go on for 9 page google doc, you know why that specific number ? because I actually did it IT SHjT DUCKING HORRIBLE you will only read or enjoy it because of how morbid and entertaining it was.

I think the author even admitted to writing this manga to be as shitty as possible cause she heard it sold well when the narrative is like that. Like a new form of click bait from the way i understand it. Like the writer is hurting the audience on purpose cause she knows that the loud minority will defend it for being the painfull/trashy story that it is.
The fact that the art of domekano being godly amazing with the worse storyline imaginable, its literal soft core doujin and I love it

@@CrimsonCharan don’t be. I was a lot smarter and traditional than them and stayed out of the circus. By learning from their mistakes, I was able to build myself a good life free from drama.
Some others made their way out of the craziness too, so I still have good friends from back then who escaped the loop to varying degrees as well. But, my Facebook feed is a nice reminder of why I live the way I live.

I only read like 100 chapters, but one thing that made this manga stand out in popularity was how real it felt, most rom coms don't dare go as far as show actual sexual adult relationships, plus the mc's literature career was very well handled.

Tbh there's a difference between something being predictable, and something being cliche. To me predictable can still be fun if it's executed well, but if it's so predictable or it starts feeling so cookie cutter that I'm rolling my eyes, I consider that cliche.

I 100% fucking agree with Garnt. The way everything progresses is fucking ridiculous but so amazing at the same time. It really hooked me and it was definitely a page turner. There are some really genuinely good character moments too and the character arc with Natsuo struggling and progressing in his writing career was masterfully done imo. Genuinely a good manga. I absolutely love it, infact any manga by this author is amazing to read. I also finished Good Ending. Another great manga. Cheers Garnt! 🥂

A lot of these scenarios they're describing aren't that ridiculous. I knew teens who slept with 30 people when we were in HS (granted my HS was 2700 kids).
Same lol. In a lot of their high school stories they don't mention having big circles and/or a big student count tho.
An example would be when a good chunk of our basketball team got gonorrhea from the same party & girl, but that isn't even the craziest dumpster fire while I was there.

Honestly, I probably would have loved Domestic Girlfriend more if it wasn't so desperate to implement Murphy's Law as its main theme. There's only so many bad things that can happen at once before it becomes completely unbelievable.
If a series is gonna be so ridiculous, I want to at least feel happy when I read it. Which is probably why I love Girlfriend Girlfriend so much. That's my Girlfriend titled series that I wish had gotten more traction than it did. 😁

This is evidently an unpopular opinion, but I agree with Garnt that it is unironically pretty good. The situations, especially in the first half of the manga are definitely pretty chaotic and a bit cliche, however the 2nd half of the manga turns into a pretty nice coming of age story for Natsuo, who is obviously a flawed character. I think some people would like it more if they read the whole thing with an open mind and making their own opinions of it, rather than going in with preconceived notions of what to expect based on what other people said about it.
Domestic GF was actually happier in comparison. I was traumatized by this garbage called "Uwakoi" and that was a masterclass in dumpster fires which ended up with thw MC getting pushed and getting killed by train-kun. It was probably the biggest slog that I went through and I have ni idea why I read it to this day.
Good ending from the same author was so good, don't know what kind of drugs wad he on when drawing domestic......
Honestly, Domestic Girlfriend is awesome the same as Shonen junky find fighting in the most mid writing awesome.
The best moments of this manga is when mc is focusing on his work with his mentor it felt like he grew up and wasn't thinking about sex all the time

Tbh there is really good character arcs in DG. Like Natsuo studying under an a famous writer and fixing different people's life troubles. But everyone only remembers the toxic romance aspect and the insane, wtf ending.
Yeah, my main story beat that hit me is when he learned that the person he was studying under has cancer and he was like a grandparent to him and that is something I could relate to because I was in a similar situation. And the fact that it was set up how writers take from real life made it even worst on my heart for me where I actually cried reading the manga.
Honestly the ridiculousness of Domestic Girlfriend is what made me keep reading it 😂
Domestic girlfriend is genuinely a fun read and I agree some of the characters and interactions are really well written but at the end of the day you are always reminded it will always be a dumpster fire

The thing about this manga that i love is that it starts as a gigantic dumpster fire but from nowhere it start getting the best character exploration/build up ever (much better view on things than oshi no ko for example), and to top it of after you are involved with the characters the autor does a "try me bitch" and trows out the most dumpster fire ending possible on a manga.. that is true insanity right there.
