Ruroc Atlas 4.0 Nebula Long Term Review

  • I jumped onto the Ruroc Atlas 4.0 bandwagon despite knowing the history of product quality issues the company has had with their launches. Those issues still persist so if you are considering purchasing the Ruroc Atlas 4.0 helmet, you might want to be wary of what you will receive. I'm still happy "enough" with the helmet that I'm not looking to spend another $400 for a different one, but I'm definitely not happy with the persistent quality of life issues I have to deal with on every ride.

    I bought a 4.0 not even a month ago and I've had, as a sample size of one, got probably one of the better helmets I've ever owned. The fit is great, the shockwave is nice, and my pinlock just dropped right into that groove after I flexed the shield out. The sound dampening is pretty good....if you put the pads included for the speaker pockets in. If not it's echo-y and I've noticed a lot of TH-cam guys complaining about that but never mentioning the pads that came with since launch. I'm not saying it's the best helmet, but man for me it's been good.

    Thanks for the honest review. I have been researching helmets for the past couple of months, and for the price, I think I'm leaning more toward the Shoei RF-1400. I have watched a ton of videos on the Shoei RF-1400, and No one seems to have quality issues like the padding, or other components falling out when taking off the helmet.

      If production quality is your focus then shoei is amazing. I'm thinking of trying my rf1200 to see if it helps with some buffeting i've been getting with the Ruroc. I'm sure you'll be happy with the rf1400

    Good review! 👍

      Thank you! They've had constant quality issues since the 1.0 so hopefully they change something in their production process by the time 5.0 comes out.

    I think they have some serious issues with consistency. Some helmets are perfectly fine, and others have problems like yours.
    I feel both good that my helmet has been trouble free, but also a bit bad because I had good things to say in my review and people are having these kinds of problems.
    Great video Valor.

      It's a mix of three things, 1) quality control at production in China, 2) no real control before shipping, 3) there are a lot of these that are valid and a lot that are not. It's a popular brand to hate on even if you've never even held one. I've seen tubers complain about the noise in the 4.0 but don't install the speaker cut pads if they aren't using the shockwave. Seen people drop helmets and claim they're cheap....like dude if you even drop a helmet you shouldn't be using it anymore. They're built for an impact. One. People asking why things break after a hard drop 🤦‍♂️

    • @Valorcycle
      @Valorcycle  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bmagada You make good points, though I believe if a helmet is just dropped and the shell is still intact, it is (probably) fine since the foam wouldn't have been compressed. The safest option is to assume it is compromised, but somewhat unrealistic to buy a new helmet every time it gets a minor drop.

    It exceeds ece 06 and has armour inside. You cant cheat the ece 06 system, as the ece 06 has the 2.5ft drop included aswell so it couldnt have gotten through that test. But it did

    Thank you for the update. I still haven’t pulled the trigger and purchased one even though I still really want to. I laugh at the thought of pulling off my helmet in public and a cheek pad falling off. Total fail. Make every helmet a good helmet. Lastly, what set up do you use for your motovlogging? I need help figuring out the mic situation. I wish there was a way to use my Cardo.

      They just pop out but dont fall out of the helmet, so not that bad. I use a dedicated audio recorder. Maybe I'll make a video on that if there is interest.

    I’ve got the exact helmet, put around 2000 miles on it so far, the only thing thats happened that I didn’t like was the rubber on the bottom started peeling off, this was fixed in 2 mins with some super glue but it annoyed me to have to do that. Other than that I’ve never had any problems w the chin guard, or the pins popping out

    That’s all they’ve got going for them. Marketing and hype. They’re good looking helmets but ooze cheap quality. I have the 2.0 and 4.0. I likely won’t buy another.

    • @Valorcycle
      @Valorcycle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah its a shame. Wish theyd take a little more time to really fix the issues that plaugue them vs releasing 2 new helmets a year and rushing. I do recognize it is difficult to do things at scale but theyre betting on short term gains vs long time customers.

    • @luca99149

      Actually the 4.0 is one of the safest helmets on the market being ece 22.06. Way safer than any snell/ece 22.05/dot helmets. Only FIM helmets are safer but there are only a couple on the market and cost a lot

    • @Valorcycle
      @Valorcycle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@luca99149 safety rating is one thing, but there are production quality issues that have been very common which is not excusable for a helmet with this price tag.

    • @luca99149

      @@Valorcycle I mean, agv also had quality issues on 800/900 dollars helmets and I guess that you can find quality issues in every brand if you do enough research, maybe arai is one of the best but their helmets are not ece 22.06. With that said I'm buying a shoei just because in Europe all the helmets that they sell are actually 22.06 (they have different names than the american versions that are not 22.06 so some shady things going on there, like the rf1400 it's called nxr2 here in the eu and I would not bet that it's actually the same helmet just rebranded) but if I was in the us the ruroc would be one of the fewest option available and I think actually the cheapest (not really sure about that, didn't research a lot about the options for the us market). I actually prioritize the safety of my brain so I'll never ever buy anything less than 22.06 or FIM

    I keep going back to their website contemplating on buying a helmet, Ruroc helmets are made in China and like everything else that is made in China the build quality is dogshit. Still deciding between the Ruroc or the new x spr pro from Shoei.

    • @Valorcycle
      @Valorcycle  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Go with whatever your gut says is the right decision long term. If you don't want to risk it, get the Shoei. If you're really bought into the design/style and willing to take some risk in quality, go for the Ruroc.
