I absolutely love the 3S so far. I think this is the feature I've been most impressed with so far. Every time I've brought it home it lands within an inch of where it took off. How it manages to do this without even needing gps signal is really incredible. Great stuff!

This is by far one of the most advanced tricks DJI had pulled out of their sleeves. I wonder if you could run the following test: Launch the drone under that picnic shelter, fly it out, let's say from the south side, fly over the shelter, and bring it manually back inside from the north side, and then initiate RTH. Will it go out again and come back from the other side, or will it fly straight ahead a few feet and land?

Wow man, that was amazing. I’ve seen the thumbnails on other videos for this feature but this was the first time I watched a video on it. I tried that with the mini 4 a while ago and had no luck at all. Hahaha. Well, mine wasn’t nearly as extreme as your demonstration here. I was just trying to land under a tree. It returned above the tree of course and said, “Area below unsuitable for landing” which is a message I see a lot. Hahaha. It’s cool how far they’ve come just 1 or 2 models later. DJI is definitely king of drone manufacturers, eh? Awesome video, man and great result.
@@IdahoQuadcopter hahaha. I’ve been saying the same thing! Wife says she’d rather get that kidney she needs. lol. Just kidding. She just said, “No, Kevin.” I like to pretend she has a legit reason. Lol
Hey Marcus ! Enjoy the technology of the Air 3s. Great demonstration, ill just have to make do with the Air 3 for now. your budget must be better than mine, maybe ill put in for a pay rise. O I just realized am retired 🤣🤣
The new tech is amazing! In the past you have referred to the precision return to home on DJI drones as a parlor trick. That was akin to saying the Falcon X booster that returns to hook up to its gantry, as a trick. The tech and the software this new drone has is fantastic. Today is the first day in a week that the weather has been conducive for flying. I'm going to take my new Air 3S out for the first time. I am prepared to have my socks blown off!
Perhaps if you have good weather before March you might try starting the drone out in the open, then walk into the sheltered area and update the home point to where the controller is. I'd be curious to see if it would fly into that area like it did when it was the home point in your video.
Cool video Marcus. This is first RTH video I watch of the Air 3s. Super impressive 🏆. I’ll be purchasing the Air 3s once Best Buy gets it in stock. I’ve never had a in&out burger 🍔 😫.
There have been many videos like this where drone pilots will set up a maze to show off the technology of the Advanced RTH. My Air 3s will be here on November 14th after waiting 14 days (held by US Customs for a week). The difference with my situation is I don’t have to set up any elaborate maze. It already exists. My property is covered with shade trees. When my Mini 4 Pro executes a RTH,it tries to land on one of the trees. So the Air 3s will have to fly between several big trees and under branches (through the hole it took off from) in order to reach its home point safely.
@@IdahoQuadcopter If it doesn't crash I will be thoroughly impressed and will share a film of it on TH-cam. What I really want to see is a RTH coming from the other side of the forest. Have had drones before try to get back when the signal got weak and crashed into the trees. I had the Air 3 before, but the obstacle avoidance wouldn't work right out of the box. The techs from DJI told me to fly it anyway to see if it engages inflight. Not only did the obstacle not come on, but the drone flew into a tree and crashed on the ground breaking off one of the front arms. DJI told me to send it back for a full refund. I never got another one but when the 3s came out I knew it was time.
Yes. The asked for some personal information and I replied. Afterwards they thanked me. That was a week ago. Then I got a call from DJI saying that the drone would be here on the 14th (today). It’s about 7:30pm now. No sign of them yet :(
Does this only work if you fly forwards? If you were to take off and then fly sideways from under that covering, would it still work the same way as the LIDAR is forwards facing only? Might be an idea for a future test.
Well, this amazing navigation is just a slap in the face to any other drone manufacturers. Others, "We have precision landing", DJI Air 3S, "Hold my beer"
Wow! that drone knows what it is doing. You should try it flying out sideways , backwards and see how it comes back. I live in Japan, and people here regular line up hours on end for any popular food. I wouldn`t do it either.
I don't think it "found" its way in, it simply retraced its own path it took from its path out, altitude and all. I wonder why it took so many years for developers to figure that one out? I think the amazing part is that the GPS signal would have been extremely limited under that steel roof, and it still stayed on its reverse path.
Hi Marcus, that is truly amazing, thanks for sharing. I wonder if DJI will firmware update more drones besides the Air 3s to do that advanced precision landing?

Is it a case of the authorities are just more relaxed over there?
