      Hahaha true 😂 but to be fair, this actually creates less work for us overall. We were already planning a castle zone but now, the art is already there, the meachics, we already have the code for, the sorry we have a foundation in place. Yes we're merging games but it's a net reduction in workload by sharing assets and such! So fingers crossed it ends up being less work overall 😄

    For the Celestial form, you could have different stages of attacks locked behind different points on the tree. Ex. basic attacks first, first unlocks next, then all abilities. Having this tied to multiple points in the tree system would also make another layer of stategy for the player (as well as "putting it on the grid").

    The shadow abilitiy is quite cool, I dont think Ive seen that in a metroidvania before

    Few notes ( One dev' to another) in hopes to give constructive feedback :
    - If I can combat in the Starlight form, I am going to scum that so hard and never use my normal form if it saves damage/resources. I'd make it explode with a later ability on exit like you said, and survive an explode to explode twice as a second tier. Maybe explode into 5 or 8 balls of light that are homing missiles instead. or explode into lantern lights to illuminate an area for a bit that is dark.
    - You mentioned the (blue) Light of Avalina, Why not have that be a thing for the starlight-form exclusively? Seems themed to have a light-of-truth vibe.
    - have you thought of starlight-form ffor outside, and shadow-form (like the knight) for inside areas? You could end up later having to use all 3 near end game for some crazy puzzling. (Majora's mask did this, now that I think of it with statues in a way)
    - I would also give the shadow an attack option that is melee, and a starlight attack that is ranged, if they got combat abilities, so they have different tones. (That pretty reaper looking attack would be a good shadow one, though I would aim for attacks the main character can't do, because who doesn't love a good bit of scope creep? XD
    - Also very nice ad plug. That was a very natural transition and a well fitted call to action choice.
    I am going to go see if I can wishlist this, I hope to see this released (when it's ready). Have Fun

    So we have the astral form which are connected to celestials. In order to have each zone have its unique mechanic, you could bond with unique bounded spirits of each zone to shift your astral form into a biome version with its own abilities. Perhaps their is a special side quest to free the bounded spirits so that you can use htier biome astral forms anywhere.

      ooooo thats a really interesting idea! Or at least having the "talents" for this astral ability be provided by characters in each zone. This is food for thought!

    possible interesting idea that i will theoretically explain properly:
    when in celestial form, attacks are slightly more powerful, but using those attacks either starts a timer and at the end of the timer you are forced out of celestial form. exiting celestial form after attacking would enforce a cooldown, maybe longer or shorter depending on how many attacks you did. could also work with like a "quota" where if you do too many attacks it kicks you out the same way
    could also work with upgrades by doing more damage while in celestial form or you get more time or attacks before being kicked out of it, plus maybe some unique changes to some abilities when used in celestial form
    not sure if this would work, just kinda thought of it

      Very similar to Hollow Knight but I do really like the idea of expending some kind of resource in order to use abilities in this form! Like a LOT! Definitely something to consider! Potentially even a case of as soon as ou take damage youre forced out of the form so its a kind of glass cannon kinda ability... but also need to make sure you protect your physical form too as you do leave that behind which make sit a good risk vs reward kind of ability

    Hey I'm a brand new subscriber so I don't know much about the game yet, but I really like the idea of the astral form shedding light so you need it for puzzles in dark areas.

    Fantastic to see you return to your project! How are you coping with combining the two games? I'd imagine it'd increase the scope which was something you mentioned struggling with before.

      It was surprisingly easier that I expected. The code and such id written for the Shattered Knight's mechanics worked more or less out of the box when transferring it though which helps. A lot has also changed in my personal life that means I'm now able to actually work on the game more and more consistently too so it has allowed us to broaden the scope. Its one of those things were, since taking the time and working on my skill-set what originally would have take me months I can now do in weeks. So even though the scope is larger, its easier to attain if that makes sense. Im still willing to make cuts however where nessisary, were keeping options open :)

    I personally feel that having the character still standing there when you are in a different form feels weird and that perhaps, similarly to when amber turns into a shadow thingy to do her down slam attack thing, the character turns into the different form rather than projecting it, as for whether the player should return to the initial spot upon ending this state... I say honestly no, I think it would be cool to turn into a shadow and just meld past a door, rather than casting your shadow past a door to open it from the other side.

    Astral form maybe keeps attacks but can only attack astral or shadow like enemies which base form cannot… This if implemented could also lend itself to puzzle solving

    Game looks and sounds dope.
    The thing that mostly bothers me is the way the astral form looks. It's so bright that it feels extremely out of place. I'd advise either toning it down bit, or substituting it for something else. A dark silhouette that has stars shining in it, akin to the giant spirit in Princess Mononoke, would fit thematically for example.

      Thank you so much! The current way it looks is PURELY placeholder, there will be a few extra things that go long with this ability and how it functions to spice it up a bit!
      We just haven't had time to make the specific assets yet is all 😉

    could a skill tree where you get your skills howestever you want really be more satisfying than beating a boss or puzzle and seeing that altar with the next power up and then thinking "now i can finally get to that place!" and stuff? to me thats the hottest point of every metroidvania and the reason to play them. dont see what this is supposed to add to the player experience.

      That is very true and that is something we still really want to keep hold of! And we believe this method although a bit unconventional actually provides that same feeling but with a little more empowerment! As you explore you'll still discover multiple places you cannot yet explore and different paths you cannot yet take. Just instead of being given a specific power that linearly unlocks a selection of those pathways you have the power to unlock the pathways in a order you choose. Let's say you discover a cave entrance that is too hight to jump and a little later a ledge that is just too far to jump over. When you defeat the boss you have the choice as to where you want to explore next. If you want to explore the cave then choose to unlock the wall jump and if you want to cross that ledge then unlock the dash. Whereas typically that decision is not yours to make. You will still ultimately visit everywhere but we want to give you the freedom to do it in an order you choose! Hope this makes sense ♥️
