  • This is a full length version of the 2021 four part series documenting our journey to the Nordkapp. Although slightly edited it remains true to the original and demonstrates what it takes to ride to this bucket-list-destination. We set off on this journey at the end of September, on a budget. In the spirit of adventure motorcycling we attempted to be as self sufficient as possible wild camping and carrying our own food and water supplies.

Thank You for visiting our country. The toll for Aursjøvegen is a pain but worth it in my opinion. Skipping Lofoten was a good decision also. Cheers from Norway.

We went a couple of years ago and yet only today I was telling some friends how spectacular your country is. I am sure of only one thing, I will be going back 🇳🇴 🇬🇧👍🏻

@@GreenString Thank You for Your reply. We are about the same age and travel the same way. Wild camping and on a budget. So far I've been to Croatia, France, Nordkapp and the Baltics on my 250 Rally. Hoping to travel the UK this summer. I've sailed around the mainland but not seen much of the country otherwise. Cheers:)

Its like doing the military service when you are young. Its cold, you are tired and dont see the point.. But when you have done it you remember all the good bits and how much fun it was. Anyways, what a journey. Good editing aswell... keep it up :)

Haha, so true. I spent 24 years in the British Army so I know exactly what you mean. You nailed it, that’s so accurate. I do think a little bit of discomfort now and then is good for the soul. At the very least it’s “character building” and like you said that tour was all the better for it in hindsight. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. It’s appreciated.👍🏼

Thanks mate, really appreciate your feedback on the video. It is, without doubt, one of the greatest motorcycle bucket list rides you can do. 👍🏼👍🏼

Thanks for sharing your true adventure.
I did my North Cape ride in summer 2022 and started short after 23rd June based on a Norwegian recommendation. I reached the North Cape on July 2nd at 20:00 and with 28°C it was pretty hot. I actually didn't expected such a hot summer ride up to the North and I didn't not used my winter gear at all. I went up through Norway and down through Sweden. The horse flies and mosquitoes prevented me from stopping more frequently but I also enjoyed the nature, talking with the locals and other riders.
Any big plan for 2024? I'm planning Pyrenees with a friend in September, which is typically a great month to travel in this area based on my previous experience.
Ride safe and keep going to share your adventures,
    Bernd 💙💛🏁🤛🏻

Hey Bernd, that’s interesting. I think we pushed our luck in hindsight going so late in the season. The only advantages, I think, we’re possibly less traffic and no mosquitoes at that time of the year. As you probably gathered we did the opposite way round. Our idea was we were saving the best until last. As it turned out we missed a sizeable chunk of sights due to the weather. I would go earlier in the season if I went again. Regarding big trips this year, we’ll yes. We will be leaving on a longest distance trip to date. We plan on leaving in April and riding down to Morocco, spend a week riding round trying not to kill ourselves then get a 48 hr ferry back to France. It will be a challenge because the weather through France will probably be cold but naturally it’s going to get warmer the further south we go. So it means we’re going to need kit for every eventuality. Packing is going to have be very well thought out as I want to travel as light as possible but I don’t think it will be that easy. The Pyrenees will be amazing I’m sure. I’ve only briefly rode over it last year. I’m tempted to do the ACT route from east to west in that region. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to comment.👍🏼 stay safe and keep riding.

Not necessarily Nordkapp, but Norway is definitely on the 'to do' list, possibly in 2025 depending on how things work out. In fact, the basis of the route is already planned.

There is something blissfully simple about an entire motorcycle trip being about getting to one single destination. We sacrificed a lot of way better road riding because of our choice so I fully understand where your coming from. My only real regret is we didn’t get over to the Lofoten (spelt wrong)? Islands.

@@GreenString your reason for going to Nordkapp is pretty much exactly why I'm not that bothered. I have done all four furthest points in the UK (not all in one trip... that would be fun), and for the mostpart they are interesting, but still just a place. Nordkapp reminds me to such an extent of Lands End and JOG, I would rather do what AndyManCam did and spend my time on some amazing roads to the West of Norway, and go back another time to visit the North if I felt the need. Great trip though and I really enjoyed this video of the whole journey.

Great idea putting the whole trip onto one vid, thanks for putting up the locations for your campsites, I'll make use of them.. The Nordkapp is my next big trip.. What time of year did you go? I'm looking at June/July to see the midnight sun .. Jason's AT start up procedure still makes me chuckle .. I have a std AT 1000 which is turn key and go .. 2 of my mates have the same bike as Jason .. so I have 2 x Jason's every time we stop and they never Sync with each other 😂 Ride safe

Take a look at this video we made about the journey, it’s a sort of “How to” if you haven’t already :NORWAY By Motorcycle - How We Did It
      th-cam.com/video/yut-ZxWVebI/w-d-xo.html
We went in September and that was risky. One Norwegian we met said that he expected the weather to turn in a matter of days. I think the only advantage of doing it so late is the roads are super empty but it’s a case of risk versus reward. If I was going to do it again it would be in summer like you. I’m glad I’m not the only one who has a modern AT riding buddy 😂. Some of the wild camp sites listed in the video are a bit crap, some are good but if your not to bothered about natural beauty, they all work. I think with a bit more research you could find better. Thanks for your comment, we appreciate it. Stay safe and keep riding 👍🏼

Was a really nice video mate. Is there any possibility to get your GPX route

    • @GreenString
      @GreenString  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi, thanks for the comment. Regrettably we did not save the route. We basically used a route card navigating point to point. I made a video on how we did it. It has lots of useful information including route selection. If you go to this video: th-cam.com/video/yut-ZxWVebI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=sf2TU34_xJPfjDvn at about 1 minute you will see a screen shot of the route card I made this will definitely assist you in working out our route. I find a route card is in many ways better than following a gpx route. It gives you a bit more flexibility. Anyway this coupled with the GPS coordinates of our wild camp sites (in the video) should see you at a very good starting point for your own planning. Note, due to time restraints we simply went the fastest possible way (Google maps) to the Nordkapp and then slowly moved into the good bit south through Norway. Fast way up, slow way down. If you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to ask. The how we did it video will probably assist you as well. Stay safe and keep riding 👍🏼
