I've been collecting knives for almost a decade now. Kershaw's Speedsafe assisted opening system is something I've always loved. In my opinion, they have the best Assisted Opening knives on the market.
You hit that nail directly on the head. I used to love speed safe. As I grew in the knife world I realized a smooth action is so much better and the assistance isn't any faster for deployment.
I got this very same Bareknuckle for Christmas and I love it. It's strong as heck for it's weight and even though the tip is precise, it's actually really strong. I Really love It honestly. It's light, strong and pretty.
Wow.. when I first got mine, it took me about a week or two to get the deployment right as well. I seriously thought it was just tight and needed a break in period..I've had knives like that before. It was me figuring it out and not even realizing it. Kinda weird. That being said, I have 100% success with deployment now. And I love everything about it. The ball bearing is so fast and smooth, the blade steel is really good, it looks awesome, I love the color, it's SO light (by far my lightest knife), and coupled with being slim, it makes for a great EDC. It's a great size for my huge hands, too. Knives are super subjective though. For how much I love it, the next guy could be a huge liner lock guy that can't open it and has little hands. But for the right person, it's an awesome knife and a fantastic price.
To anyone still on the fence about the knife: I own it and being a righty experienced the one issue stated in the video. My so far permanent fix was just a drop of oil on the detent ball within the first few days after getting it followed up by my constant flipping of the knife just to admire it. The oil drastically helped and made the break in period a fraction of the time compared to what I've heard others say. The knife is in my top 3 for every day folders now along with my kershaw knockout and spyderco pm2 which are mostly carried at work. On a weekend when I want a slim and lightweight knife that dissappears in the pocket this is my go to and I couldn't recommend it highly enough
Good honest review!! Kershaw needs to make another version of The Bare Knuckle where they cover the outer framework and make other colours for the handle. Gideon,I agree with you too!! I personally love everything about this knife except the framework issue for deployment and for me this is a deal breaker!!. I will wait hopefully for another version if Kershaw decides to improve it. If they don't, I will stick with Ruike and Real Steel for best budget knives(they seem to have got it right!!) and Kubey Knives look amazing and are at great prices too!!
I am glad you broke it down on the sub frame lock, most will stick it the first time, and as my absolute favorite knife for EDC, the Spyderco Amalgam, you may spend a couple of flips to overcome the newness! Check both of these out, once you have one in your hands they both are daily carriers! And the ergo's are amazing!
I’ve been the same exact way with knives, when I was in eighth grade I had a Ken Onion designed Kershaw Chive with Speedsafe. I thought it was the coolest thing ever back then but now I’m like you, I’m all about smooth one-handed manual openers.
I agree on the preference for manual open! My first couple of folders were assisted, and I liked them. But when I got my first smooth opening manuals, I couldn’t go back to AO’s. Nice review! I’m willing to work the learning curve. I remember every time I’d get a new duty holster with a different retention mechanism, I’d spend hours building the muscle memory necessary to draw safely and quickly. Same idea here. Keep up the good work brother!
Love your reviews. Nothing to pretentious. You seem to go after the more affordable rather then the high end. I'm in the price range you review. Thanks.
The bare knuckle is a sick knife, I absolutely love the blade shape and the cutting geometry is pretty decent. It's a good cutter! I just wish they would take the assist out of the link and the dividend.
I love my Barknuckle. It's in my pocket a lot. I have no problem with the sub frame lock. I snapped it up when it first came out, and I never looked back..no regrets what so ever. The RUIKE P801 you have there is a good design, but I don't like SS scales. It's slippery when you go to open it. Once open, the egos are great, no problem with it slipping while using it, the factory edge is one of the sharpest I've seen, but me being a fidget flipper kind of guy, I seldom carry it because of that slippery feeling when I open it. We all have our personal preferences, and no knife is suited for 100% of users, Some come close, but there are always some people who will dislike it for some reason.Nothing wrong with that. There are a thousand other knives to choose from. To each their own.
Good review, i agree, this particular sub-frame lock is really annoying(because its too large) but i also find the detent a little too strong, at least on mine, which combined with the poorly designed lock, makes the knife annoying to use, which makes me use other knives that arent. Other than that everything is great, light weight, feels amazing in the hand, good size, it would get a lot of pocket time if it werent for the lock and detent.
Great review. I am a big fan of Kershaw USA made knives and will only buy there USA made knives. It would be great if KAI started another line that sold the Chinese made knives. My main daily carry since 2004 has been the Kershaw blur 1670BLK and I have gotten so accustomed to using the thumb stud that I try to only buy knives with thumb studs or I add a KWIK thumb stud after the fact. I have found on the RUIKE P801-SF when i use the small thumb stud I have the same problem as you brother and put pressure on the lock bar and can not deploy the blade. When I use the flipper my finger rest on the scale and i do not have a problem. I have the Kershaw Knockout 1870OLBLK and it looks very similar to the Bareknuckle. I do not have a problem using the thumb stud on the Knockout when my pointer finger is resting on the lock bar but I think that is because it is has Speedsafe and does not have ball detente in the blade. Keep up the great reviews and GOD bless you and your family.
I’m really digging the Kershaw Bareknuckle offering for the price. I think a lot of people get too worked up over blade steel. One thing you have to remember is that fancy & expensive super steel will be a pain to sharpen if you let it get to dull. I actually like the VG10 steel that Spyderco uses in some of their blades.
14c28n is in no way shape of form a "super steel" it's nothing more then a fine grained low alloy stainless. Nothing tough what so ever about sharpening it.
Well this is my first frame lock knife but i got the 20cv steel exclusive version. Previous knifes are spyderco delica and a 940-2. Hopefully I find it comfortable and natural when deploying it. Also it’s my first flipper ever. I was about to use it as work knife but idk how that will work with all the saw dust with the bearings. It might replace my weekend 940-2 in s30v. I can’t keep an edge for too long on it and I hardly use it. I have given up on the benchmade s30v steel.
Aaron, thanks for another awesome review! I was waiting for your video to see if I should pick this up or not and now I can’t wait to get it in my hands. Thanks
Just got my SMWK Barenuckle exclusive with CPM - 20CV today. The detent is extremely stiff! Heard this was a problem, hoping I would get one without the issue. Love everything about it except the detent.
I have most of Kershaw’s US made knives. As far as speedsafe goes, I am glad they seem to be moving away from it on their better knives. I can take it or leave it, but not having it makes disassembly/assembly a bit faster and easier. I really like my Bareknuckle except for the unfortunate name. (Does Kershaw use a random name generator?) It and my Dividend get a lot of EDC time while my Leek CF spends most of its time in my knife case. Kershaw makes the best budget friendly US made knives. Looking forward to more from them.
Great review and I ordered. However the frame lock is a major issue. I wish I was moving the fingers off the frame lock, it’s stiff as hell. Even using 1 hand on the alum and the other just thumb flipper. It requires a lot force to engage. I also noticed the pivot hex is cranked so hard I couldnt even losses with my driver (not much of a handle). Love it otherwise, hoping to sort out the release.
Got the Bareknuckle and it had super stiff detent so I sent it back on warranty. Its been 6 weeks and no word or knife. Really would like to get it back.
The design is VERY similar to the Natrix series, of which I have 2 (the 7006CU and the 7007CU). The copper clad knives are quite beautiful, which is part of why I bought them, the other reason being that they LOOK to be solid as rocks!) though heavier than the Bareknuckle, they work very well. I wonder, besides lighter weight, what does the Bareknuckle offer that say, a 7007CU or a 7008CU doesn't? I assume it works at least as well as a Natrix, RIGHT! It's quite a bit cheaper! If one is interested primarily in utility, the Bareknuckle must be every bit as good, and pretty good-looking as well.
I have a couple sub frame locks. So that I don't think that will be a problem. My issue is price. I think for the steel it is about 10 bucks overpriced. Don't know if that will deter me in the end as I like the size and really want to try it. We shall see.
I don’t disagree, I do wish she was more around by blur price. But I do understand but there’s probably more machining involved with the bare knuckle on all the aluminum and sub fame lock. Plus the boiler was designed over 10 years ago and manufacturing prices go up.
You know, the best thing about knives is that there are so many different designs that there is literally a perfect knife for everyone. The worst thing about knives is that you may have to spend a whole hell of a lot of money to find that perfect blade lmao.
Don’t see how people think this was just a sales pitch or commercial. Wasn’t any different than all of his other knife review imo. All well, to each his own I guess.
I had one. Very nice knife! Sometimes I almost wish I had never sold it. It reminded me very much of my old ZT 0770CF. Sadly it never saw much pocket time after I reviewed it because I've taken to carrying a swiss army knife in my left pocket (PM2 never leaves my right pocket) instead of a folder when I don't have a folder to test
I’ve been looking at this really cool maybe I’ll grab an upgraded one though it does already have a good steel.I love that it’s not assisted it’s not needed and makes it illegal in alout more places.
Steel prices are up in the US because of the stupid tariffs. It’s hurting the US and that’s why prices for US made knives have gone up. It may seem overpriced, but, truly, it is not. It’s the best they can do until the tariffs are lifted. Information from ZT and and several other companies. Explains why leathermans prices are up. Crucible just hit all the companies with another price jump, which might explain why they went with sanvik. Just some information you should look into and mention when it comes to US products. China is killing us right now. Mostly due to the fact people have been sending money over there more.
Demand for more US steel has caused prices to go up. As well as foreign steels, due to tariffs. The US doesn’t make steel like they used to. We basically use it more then we make it, so demand is causing prices to sky rocket. Until we start manufacturing more steel here, it will get worse. It might help us in the long term. But it’s hurting us now. Don’t take my word for it. I got my information from knife manufacturers, as well as seeing the US automobile industry tanking. So, learn what is going on and how economics work. Have a great day
@@hunterglaspell5580 tariffs kept my job. We are way too dependent on the one belt one road dance. We have lost too much of our manufacturing and more importantly the expertise that is associated with it. Even the military industrial complex is waking up to the fact that the expertise and resources for their system components is no longer available in the USA. Have not really seen knife prices on the ones I buy go up
Chinese steel killed the mill in my city and now it's an opioid ridden cesspool. Those tariffs were about 20 years too late. By the way there isn't a single foundry left to make diesel engines in the US because of China. So yeah that's great.
@@The4cp Cummins had golden foundry in Columbus, but they just had to have the China price. Indy had international foundry which made diesel blocks and that went to China. Chrysler block foundry went away as well.
Sent mine back. A flipper that doesn't reliably flip is a deal breaker. As this review notes, using a natural grip pressures the lock at least VERY slightly. This makes the ergonomics bad. It should flip with a natural grip. The rest of the knife is great for the price. Made in the USA is a big plus at this price with these materials. It is also a great looking knife.I wish I could've kept it but I can't reward a company making a flipper that doesn't flip with a normal intuitive grip.
I am a lefty and I hated the natrix so much I gave it to someone I had a b of a time closing it. #mailbag what's your favorite cartoon/cartoon character? Mine is Yosemite Sam, Bugs Bunny, I love those cartoons!
I'am a huge Kershaw fan. This is a Cool knife Aaron an thanks for showing it. Another awesome review Sir. What do you think about Benchmade's betrayal to us gun ownes ?
@@gideonstactical - Thanks. Being left handed, I just want to know it's easy to move. Plus the finger placement issue won't affect me. Excellent review.
I have the knife, but haven't moved the pocket clip yet. Looking at the screws, it seems they screw into the sub-frame lock bar. I haven't switched the clip because I'm afraid removing the screws would loosen the lock bar.
Hi Aaron! Really looking forward to the next #mailbag as I have an important question. I will be buying my first pistol, and will start to conceal carry soon. I know using a gun, even in self defense will have huge legal ramifications. So I wanted to ask, do you have conceal carry insurance, and if you do what do you recommend? Also any pistols you would like to recommend on a budget. The reason I want to start carrying a pistol. Is because my family has a business. But the business is on the edge of town, far away from the local PD. And the business right next door ( we are located in a strip mall ) has been robbed at gun point. So I'm afraid that the next they may come back, they'll come for us instead. I really hope my question gets into the #mailbag .
I just want to say I don’t have carry insurance. This is not why but you should be aware of, they only insure you if you’re found innocent. To me that sounds like a sham and a loophole. To me the better thing to do would find a good lawyer and start paying towards a retainer. There are some good programs out there.
Good day, I have my CCW and I don’t have insurance, I understand you thoughts on why you want to carry, but what scares me is your looking for a budget CC pistol, do you have pistol experience? Before you carry a budget gun please be sure it’s worth the money and also train with it before you carry it.. Also be sure of your mind set on carrying a gun.. Remember if you kill someone you will charge your life and the lives of others forever.. Think it through before you start carrying. Good luck and be safe..
Bareknuckle has a MAJOR flaw, if there is any pressure in the subframe lock when you try to open it, is almost impossible to open, don’t waste you money on this knife.
I’m totally done listening. Everything is such a sales pitch for so many different products. It’s like watching tv commercials. I really started doubting when you did your ESEE Jungalas review, said you used it for like three months, yet their coating was barely worn. That stuff where’s with first use. That’s why I always strip it and blue my ESEE’s. Sales pitch time is over. Unsubscribed
MrDrinknRide: I totally agree. Arron used to be my go to guy for knife reviews. Now he's just a walking billboard for all the stuff he wears. I'm unsubscribing as well.
Appalachia Fishing Club I am sorry to hear that. I am alway open to feed back, and I am always wanting to improve. Always wanting to find a good balance.

gideonstactical I understand what you are saying. I do. Unfortunately that is what happens when money gets involved. Things change. I do understand why they change and it is an unfortunate side effect of progress. Personally I dropped main stream tv because of a bunch of reasons, ads being one of them. I understand you need to do what you have to, and I do know how hard it is to make videos from experience and I am not good at it. Your channel was one of my original favorites. It is just not for me anymore, and I felt you should know about it and why. Good luck to you.
TC Lesh please explain? 35sec was offering links, the rest was the good and bad about the knife including the the issues with the sub frame lock...I honestly would like to know?
gideonstactical the overall feel of this vid was a promotion for kershaw. Not sure if that was your intent. Yeah you talked about the lock. Ok. You vids just must not be for me. Sorry. Unsubscribed.

Any change on your favorite edc knife? I just can’t get into the Manix line of blades.
Harley no change on that blade, para2/para3 line might be better for you.
gideonstactical Yes. I really love the Para2 bale. I’m super excited about the Para 3 lightweight coming out. I hope to see your thoughts on it.
Dam that’s fricking beautiful man!
4:46 Jealous of your HOB Link. Want one so bad. Hoping they do a HOB Bareknuckle or Knockout
Then that settles it. Ruike P801 it is. Thanks for the video my Bladed Brother⚔️
Yes, full auto or full manual that's my stand

Awesome review. Off subject but love your wedding band. Any memory of where you got it from?
Major problem took two weeks to not put your finger on the lock 😂 your cracking me up 🤣
A great lefty nkife yes
Great video as usual.
I want a bareknuckle xl, maybe 3.9 inches
Smokey Mountain Knife Wirks has it in 20CV right now.
Had some problem with my mini metric copper but that looks wicked
Nice Knife!!!!!!!!!
For once, a knife that’s better for left handers!
I want one!

Have you ever found a folder you can trim your beard with?
Nice knife and great video as always my friend but it's gonna be a no for me. As a lefty frame locks are a deal breaker.
Love mine just wish I could disassemble for cleaning. Drenched in loctite with spinning pivot. So annoying.
I wish the bareknuckle was an automatic
I am a lefty and I hated the natrix so much I gave it to someone I had a b of a time closing it. #mailbag what's your favorite cartoon/cartoon character? Mine is Yosemite Sam, Bugs Bunny, I love those cartoons!
Agreed about the assisted opening. Used to love em but now I’d rather not have em. A lot harder to close one handed.
I'am a huge Kershaw fan. This is a Cool knife Aaron an thanks for showing it. Another awesome review Sir. What do you think about Benchmade's betrayal to us gun ownes ?
Is anyone else sick of seeing all these new knives with only flippers? I think we need of the return of thumbstud
Is it easy to move the clip to the other side? Standard Allen or Torx? Not superglued in? Thx.
Frank Hellman I have never had an issue with kershaw Pocket clops
@@gideonstactical - Thanks. Being left handed, I just want to know it's easy to move. Plus the finger placement issue won't affect me. Excellent review.
I have the knife, but haven't moved the pocket clip yet. Looking at the screws, it seems they screw into the sub-frame lock bar. I haven't switched the clip because I'm afraid removing the screws would loosen the lock bar.
@@JediJunkie247 - Thx. I would reinstall them with a tiny bit of Locktite blue. I presume they're easy enough, but you never know.
Never got why companies use back spacers flow through construction is less work cheaper better easier to clean keep clean etc.
I wish square framed glasses looked good on me but they don't. They make me look like a CNN viewer!
Looks just like the Natrix to me.
Their recent designs seem too similar, like this barenuckle and natrix
bosnakedisniksic It is basically USA made version of the natrix
I like assisted openers
Aaron you should do a stab test with a knife glove to test the lock!
Bareknuckle has a MAJOR flaw, if there is any pressure in the subframe lock when you try to open it, is almost impossible to open, don’t waste you money on this knife.
Stab it into some wood or something
J. Iscariot was a sell out too.
Dulland Dangerous ???
Crkt outrage
MrDrinknRide I am sorry to hear that. I am always open to feed back. Always looking for a good balance. Back in the day ad money was enough and offer a link or two and you are good to go. Now ad revenue is so low you have to find other avenues to buy gear to review. No money, no gear, no gear, no videos, no videos, no channel.

gideonstactical I understand what you are saying.
A 17:00 long commercial. No thanks
TC Lesh I understand, ya it was not meant to be that way at all.
You should try out for the Premiere League. You're already a social media brand ambassador...unsubscribing.
