Once again enthralling presentation of this series. I think I should request Galvin Otland to interview you to give your work more attention. You are also very neutral in how you present the facts.
I am so glad you are enjoying it. It is often far easier and less honest to assign people labels than to grapple with the complex realities of who they were.
This is tge most complete synopsis of fern and bella that i have come across ever....no one not even the tv series went this indepth.....thank you for ur research very well done...i will be watching the other documentaries to
I have to say it after having read so many comments in these videos about Isabel of Castile. As a Spaniard I am more than amazed that there are so many 16th generation descendants of Queen Isabel outside of Spain.
Just started watching this series today. It’s also the first videos I’ve watched of your’s. You have a great gift of teaching and story telling. Absolutely captivating! Please do more of these!
Thank you so much for this series, Eva. I greedily watched the other episodes as soon as they came out but this one got put on the back burner and I've just caught up. So much information about two fascinating people and their power dynamic in public and private, as well as the wider geo-political and religious climate of the time. On one hand, I wish your videos had a wider audience and that people watched them instead of some of the nonsense that gets thousands of likes. On the other, I think of myself as part of a lucky band that have discovered your videos and get to watch these gems amongst the gravel. And although I never thought I'd say this, I came for the history but I sometimes stay for a bit of jazz as well!!!😉 Please keep posting.
Thank you very much for this comment. It makes a huge difference to know that all the work that goes into making these videos is appreciated. I promise a new series coming in the next couple of months… 😉
Gracias.
The biggest consequence of Isabella having changed her mind was, what could be referred to as: The ultimate family reunion of the human species. Humanity had forked off into the western hemisphere, completely separated from the eastern half. This reconnection in Columbian Exchange benefitted far more than just the wealth of Spain. It proved to be a synergy for all of humanity.
Here, the eye contact is oddly skewed to the upper left of the audience. Previously, you have been speaking much more effectively directly to the camera, rather than as here, evidently reading from a prompter or script. That more direct delivery is much more effective.
I think the inquisitors were savagely punishing their own sins by proxy. I would even venture to say some of them were experiencing some form of ecstasy while doing it.
They both did that because they saw what happened to the fall of Constantinople 4 decades earlier and both King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella didn't want that in Spain. Also The Spanish Inquisition spread in their colonies in Latin America and The Philippines.
Uh! we have a problem, Your title says, "F&I: EP5- Christopher Columbus and 1492". I am 34 minutes into the podcast and all you have talked about is the expulsion of the Muslims. I think this podcast is miss-labled because so all you have talked about is the expulsion of the Muslims. I think this podcast is miss-labled because it has nothing to do w/Columbus. I know you read the comments section. Stuff happens. 😅 ok, 38:10 you start Christopher Columbus. So you have given us background. Disregard this post.
Your presentation is very very good. Something you might not have been aware of is that inside the traditional Latin Mass Rite which is a continuation of Christ's last supper is a ritual of the moving of the missal from the rt side of the altar to the left by the altar boy. This symbolizes the faith passing from the Jews to the gentiles at the end of mass the Altar boy returns the Missal from the left side of the altar to the rt side again. This symbolizes the return of the faith to the Jews. the Second coming of Christ can not take place until after the conversion of the Jews. Isabella would have been motivated by this hope and belief. Torqemada a converted Jew himself would have been very aware of it. Catholics where aware since 1240 that the Talmud had blasphemed both Jesus and Mary. Isabella pressured the Pope to grant her Power of Inquisition only after a fude that took place in Segovia that left scores of dead Jews and Christians upon her entrance into the city. she delayed activating the inquisitional courts and safeguards were put into place to avoid abuse. if a known enemy was among your accusers then the case was dropped. the LaGuardia convictions of 1491 caused much stir in Spain. Isabela decreed that to harm a Jew during his expulsion incurred the death penalty.
It is unfortunate and sad. But don’t think that the Queen and all the others who did what they did to Jews aren’t gonna suffer in hell! God saw everything they did. Soooo I only feel sad for them
Unfortunately, the life of Cristóvão Colon (that's what the Pope called him) is told as a simple and logical story. In reality everything was much more complex. Certainly he wasn't Italian. He wrote did not speak Genoese. Since he himself communicated with his friend Toscanelli in Latin. Then there is this letter from King Joao II who forgives him and no longer wants to seek his life. After his first trip he stayed in Lisbon for 9 days and met the king on March 9, 1493. Only then did he sail on to Castile. And promptly 2 months later the Tordesillas contract was signed. Then there is this story of the weaver who rises to become an admiral and also marries Filipa Moniz into the nobility. You know yourself that something like this - wasn't possible in the 15th century. Cristóvão Colon himself said that he was not the only admiral in his family. He certainly didn't mean the italian weaver relatives. The traces of the real Colon leads to the high nobility of the discovering nation of Portugal.
Are you a historian or you just read a couple of books about the subject and feel you have a complete understanding of the subject matter. You are a good communicator but I would like to know your sources.
Harsh and intolerate? Why you don't tell us the intolerancy in the rest of Europe at the same age? You must compare with their contemporarys. A lot of Religious wars along Europe... please... tell us The inquisition isn't create in Spain, it was created in France a few centuries after and extended along Europe, and finally came to Spain much later. Don't wash the history...
A 2008 study found that folks in the Iberian Peninsula average about 20% "Sephardic Jewish" ancestry ranging from 0% on the Island of Menorca up to 36% in Southern Portugal. Although some portion of that DNA may have other origins it still suggests a very large portion of the historical Jews in Iberia integrated earlier than 1492, never left, or returned. I guess Isabella got her wish as for centuries they were Christians and fully integrated.
Spain did not have colonies, it had viceroyalty’s. She also said that all natives were subjects of the crown of Castile and Leon with all rights and privileges. She also told the Spanish that arrived in the Americas to marry and make families with the natives. The natives converted of their own will after the apparition of the Virgen of Guadalupe. The Aztecs performed ritual sacrifice and the original pozole was made out of human meat not pork. I know my family is from Puebla Mexico. The black legend lives on
Good information here but Eva could not resist the mistake of imposing modern values on people who lived 500 years ago.. they wanted a unified Catholic state in Spain. These people were not multi-cultural and wanted noting to do with that kind of society. Lets do good history and stop trying to impose our views who lived in another world. In their view thwy were correct.
in scripture, God says that his people aka Jews and all of their generations will suffer because of their own stubbornness. By stubbornness he meant not believing his son was Jesus.
Why, as educators, must the English language be further shredded? Queen Isabella would be considered a heroine if she were ever heroic. At the time, even my toddler knew how to use that word. “Sheroine” is not even recognized by spellcheck, the Miriam Webster, or Oxford dictionaries, for this fabricated term is foolish, sad, and a deprivation of the English language.
By comparison, Nelson saying at the Battle of the Nile, "The Lady Hamilton is a virgin, you can poke out my eye and cut off my arm if I'm lying." seems minuscule.

Simply tell you that they were second cousins, since what they shared were great-grandparents, from there... what else can I tell you about the darkness of the skin in the European continent... you are totally uninformed. Of course I assume you are aware that Marlowe's work is a novel and is in no way considered a book of historical value.

Outstanding! This series was fascinating. I also enjoyed your King Henry VIII series and would love to see one on Queen Elizabeth I.
She has good straight ahead jazz that you can stream too. Good phrasing and straight ahead. Good stuff. Good music.
Thank you Eva!! So interesting! You explain things so well!
So glad you enjoyed it 😊

They are not citizens; they are subjects.
In Castile there were no servants, at least they were free subjects represented in the Cortes.
La Inquisición española, fue la que menos muertes provocó durante el tiempo que duró. En Inglaterra y en Alemania la Inquisición de esos países mató muchas más personas que en España.
Would be cool to make an episode about his exploits in the new world
It would probably include Christopher Columbus committing a lot of brutal atrocities. That is the reason why nowadays he is very controversial.

And all those Syrian refugees in Europe are a family reunion of the human species.
Here, the eye contact is oddly skewed to the upper left of the audience.
Previously, you have been speaking much more effectively directly to the camera, rather than as here, evidently reading from a prompter or script.
That more direct delivery is much more effective.
Just listen and keep to yourself

No. La Inquisición era sólo para los españoles, no juzgaba a los indígenas. Estudia
Endless false accusations without evidence seems to be having a come back.

Yes, this policy of discounting any testimony from a known enemy among your accusers is something I mention in a later video in this series. 👍
It is unfortunate and sad. But don’t think that the Queen and all the others who did what they did to Jews aren’t gonna suffer in hell! God saw everything they did. Soooo I only feel sad for them
So beautiful and smart. Where can I find a woman like this? Damn

This is correct!
Do you knew of a more pro Spanish series in English
@@Interne73859 unfortunately no. The meaning of Catholic has a couple of episodes on the Spanish and all their achievements.

I completely agree with you about this mutilation of language, but I do not think I am guilty of it in this or any video.
Big mistake by Castile
By comparison, Nelson saying at the Battle of the Nile, "The Lady Hamilton is a virgin, you can poke out my eye and cut off my arm if I'm lying." seems minuscule.
Propaganda as expected on this topic, is the only way to remain, repeating a bunch of made-up stories.
Was Isabella a good person? Yes. But religion can make good people do horrible things.
Si, el Islam
