- We tested the new 2015/16 Mustang GT when it was stock, and while it's certainly the best Mustang yet by a wide margin, we did find room for improvement in certain areas an enthusiast might find helpful, mainly the suspension damping, clutch feel, and exhaust sound. This 2015 Mustang GT has the "full bolt on" treatment, including common consumer-level upgrades to the suspension, engine, shifter, clutch, and exhaust, and it's no surprise that a little fine tuning goes a very long way in a Mustang.

Gotta say, 12 oz cup of coffee and TheSmokingTire One Takes are the proper way to start any morning. First thing I do when I get to work in the morning is boot up my computer and watch your show. Definitely the highlight of my mornings! Screw Top Gear, Fifth Gear, etc. I'll take a One Take any day of the week. Keep pumping out the good stuff Matt! Great job as always!

+TheSmokingTire I know it's not possible, but how awesome would it be if you could turn on the TV (or interwebs) in the morning and enjoy a car show in the style of Good Morning America or Today Show? Hosted by Matt Farrah, Tanner Foust, Ken Block, and Tiff Needell. But there would be no studio portion at all. All talking would be done on canyon roads, tracks or while sliding sideways in industrial parks. It'd be like crack. Yep that's exactly what it'd be like. Like a crack, heroin, meth sandwich. And I would love it. And people would rejoice. And there would be peace in the Middle East. And Democrats and Republicans would have a beer and hug it out. And the Kardashian's would move to England and American would be great again. But I digress... Until that time, I'll enjoy my coffee and my morning One Takes.

I just picked up a used 2016 GT pp with saddle interior with this guard green paint. I was really thinking about boosting the car, but this has me considering the cai, full exhaust, and tune. I already purchased front and rear subframe connectors and I really enjoy the handling and braking on these new PP cars. It's head and shoulders above my old '86 SVO and my fiancé camaro ss.

I love the new Coyote 5.0 especially with the new Charge motion valves. The LS3/LT1 engines are fantastic and you can make huge power N/A, but I find the Coyote a more "Fun" engine and it sounds amazing with just about any cans.

I was excited to see this one! I Have a 2011 GT (RTR Package) with similar mods(shocks,struts,springs,wheels/tires,exhaust,shifter). Agree about the S197s being "bouncy". Mine can beat you up a bit on not so flat roads. Not so happy hitting a bump through a corner either. Glad to see a direct result for the spring removal, haven't bothered on mine yet as I wasn't sure it would help all that much. Curious about the shifter, I have the Barton on mine as well and still get crunchy/missed shifts here and there....great stuff as always Matt!

What are your difficulties?
I got a replacement spring from Steeda for the clutch pedal feel. 10 bucks, and 5 minutes to install. I also added their diff bushing inserts and it helped to button down the rear suspension. There are so many bolt on suspension mods available for this car.
IMO, the greatest improvements you can make from stock comes in the area of improving the shifting, clutch feel, and very minor suspension tweaks. Aesthetically, a better set of mufflers. The steering and brakes are perfect.

Agreed 100% on the brake pedal feel. It was definitely like the 2015 Mustang GT I did a review on. The moment you touched them it starts to slow the car down. I loved the shifter, and that was a stock unit. And I don't have awesome roads like that, but when I rolled on it in a turn it cornered nice and flat. My 2005 Mustang GT just doesn't compare at all!

I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me. I did a review myself where I mention that!
And I own a 2005 Mustang GT and I do think they have that classic look. But the 2015 is just light-years ahead. A would buy if I could! Never getting rid of my 2005 though!

Matt, longtime fan of yours; back to the Garage 419 days. Love the work you're doing and thank you. Boring questions: I'm assuming that you're insured in case, god forbid, something "unexpected" happens during the drive. Just wondering how does one get insurance for professionally driving other people's cars? Is it basically regular insurance, but with another line item in your listing of coverages? Maybe none of this applies and the owner signs a waiver?
the mic setup you have is great, the only reason I knew your mic fell off is cause you said it did. unless you fixed the audio in editing, then ignore what I said.

You know, I've never really had a problem with the audio, maybe it's because I'm using studio monitors aimed at my ears. The only thing I didn't like was how loud the flybys were sometimes, but the balance between that, engine noise and voice levels has really been a lot better recently.

I have the same car but with a ported 2018 intake manifold and I can rev to 7600. No cams needed
adrian m8 I have a 15 too. IMRC causing random cut off. How much power did you gain from 18 manifold swap? Did you lock out to IMRC?

Should've made them like this from the factory! A true sledgehammer-scalpel hybrid, with beautiful sounds to boot. I can only imagine how much more beastly she'd be with Pilot Super Sports, long tubes and straight pipes!
I own a 2013 GT and the coyote motors don't sound that good with straight pipes, too raspy. I have GT500 axlebacks, Off-road H pipe, and long tube headers and it's almost as loud but sounds so much better

Matt, when you gonna give us a tour d' so. cal. telling us about road profiles so when those of us out of state visit, we can choose the right roads for our interests?
An SCT4 tuned, BBK CAI, BBK Longtube, Borla Atak Catback, 90mm Throttle Body, Coilovers, Driveshaft upgrade, Rear end upgrade(not sure if it was a 4.10 or a 3.73 from the stock 3.55); put down a whopping 75whp over the stock 384whp, and 65wtq over the stock 349wtq. You do the math, Bolt-ons aren't bad for a modern day car. Yeah it was almost $4,500. But you could put that into a 20 year old cobra and you wouldn't even come close to making the stock numbers of a 2015 FMGT, in a 1995 FMSVT.
I couldn't hear you talking, but that Mustang sounds so good that I didn't even care...

the stock performance pack Springs tend to get upset over bumps in a turn, not as much as a live rear axle but stock is boring anyways, I plane on doing suspension work next then wheels and tires, 275 in the front 305 in the back
the mic you have is omnidirectional why dont you just tape it one the a pillar or on the steering wheel that way you dont have to worry about it

Used to own a cobra, the 2016 5.0 looks like a fun weekend car. Been an Audi owner since 2000, and feel like you just have to have two separate mills. Then there's the straight 6 M3. But that's another bill. Would love to own this 5.0 setup asap as a second car to enjoy with the girl. Thanks Smoking Tire, please keep posting the videos. Maybe check EuroCode Torrance. Those guys are doing some crazy work on Audi and BMW's.
