  • Had to fix a few things after the lift installation. First, we helped with an annoying squeak that I should have done right the first time. And dropped the center carrier bearing to help with vibration.

    A/C in the garage! Man after my own heart. :) I hate the heat. Great vid! I got a '19 taco too and looking to do rough country lift. Thanks for all the content!

      We try to help out where we can. The AC units are wonderful. The one took a 20a 220 line. which was going to be put behind the workbench. After pricing the line, it was moved a lot closer to the panel. Crazy prices. The only think that I found about the RC that I do not like would the the amount of squeaks in the rear springs. Little bit of lube spray and it is better. Installing the lift was pretty easy. ONly ran into a few things that had to overcome. check out the video

    Hey ! Great video. I'm having the same issue in my Tacoma, I have air bags in the back. I was going to do the washer thing but this seems better. Also in your intro I spotted a Grand Wagoneer, I use to own a blue one, sadly I sold it 😢
    Just subbed

      you sold it. :( We have a number of projects an the 1989 Wag is one of them. Also a 90 CJ, 97 12 valve cummins, 76 aqua Sport. and others. Check out the playlists.
      i changed my mind on using washers mostly due to the nature of the component. if something went wrong and this thing comes loose at speed. it will beat the crap out of your truck. Not good.
      good luck and thanks for watching. we have more Taco stuff coming.

    Awesome vid as usual! I too have that annoying squeak on the same side but on the front eye bolt. Here I thought I was breaking necks when I'm driving my truck but only to find out people are looking cause u was squeaking... lol. I hope grease fixed it, I haven't regressed mine but I did hit it with some lube and it still comes back. I wonder if it involves that taco lean people are talking about? I also did a carrier bearing drop but the kit I used came with 3 of those spacers. Hard to tell if vibes are gone since I have MTs on. Thanks for the well informed vid, I'm not looking forward to taking the rear back off but I guess I have to sometime soon.

      The squeak is Lot better. I can still hear it a little bit so I am thinking it is in the leaf packs. After putting in the spacers, I can feel the difference in the vibration but it could also be a mental block. :) One thing we both can do is keep a spray can of lube in the center console and spray down the leaf packs after every rain. Would be a pain in the butt. But you can think of it this way. The only neck pain you give people would be from them looking at your truck in envy.
      Next video we get on the CJ. Another small job that developed into a snowball.

      the vibration that I had was small but after putting in the kit, it was better. I do not feel it anymore but now my tires are worn out so i am getting vibrations from them. Never ending cycle of chasing down issues. :)

    I have a 2018 SR5 with a 3-2 kit. My kit came with 6 spacers. Do I need the all?

    • @5LakesGarage
      @5LakesGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Which kit did you get? I am not familiar with the 3-2 kits. I picked up a separate spacer kit for the driveshaft.

    • @kylelong4987
      @kylelong4987 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@5LakesGarage I figured it out. They send 6 as the kit. With my 3-2 leveling kit, I only to add one spacer on each side.

      Nice. Hopefully it works outs. I am back into my Taco and I think a re-gear went higher on the list of things to do get done.

      @@5LakesGarage I believe at some point I will also do that and a tune to see what I can gain out of the 3.5L.

      I have the OVtune already and it could use some improvements. I hear the OTT tune is great but I hope to be able to compare both of the soon.

    Did the carrier fix the rear end shuddering?

    • @5LakesGarage
      @5LakesGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      it made it a lot better. I only went 3.5 inches on the lift so it was not that much of a change. i hear that people with 6" or more still have issues.

  • @trentonnewkirk5395
    @trentonnewkirk5395 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would this make a driveshaft a little longer

    • @5LakesGarage
      @5LakesGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When we put the lift on the drive shaft was stretched to reach the new location. With the spacers on the carrier it will shorten the distance. I have not had any issues since I put the spacers in place.
      Thanks for the watch.

    How’s the squeak from the leaf springs now?

    • @5LakesGarage
      @5LakesGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was pretty good for a little bit. but not anymore. It has to to be coming from the packs. I can spray some lube on it and it will be great until it rains and washes it all away. I might be looking at plan C. Worse case would be is to take the packs apart and put in a liner or something. So far it is ding on RC> Good news is the vibration went away. Thanks for watching

      I read a post on a Tacoma forum where a guy was having issues with his RC leaf springs squeaking. He contacted RC and they sent him a new pair of leaf springs with improved bushings. The guy posted an update and said that the squeak had come back even with the new springs, but that it wasn’t as noticeable. I emailed RC and let them know that the leaf springs I had received were squeaking excessively from the bushings even after greasing them. They confirmed my mailing address and sent me a new pair for free. Looking at the bushings on the new set of leaf springs they do appear to be different. I also found that the pads in between the leaves were different than the ones on the original pair and they had also been greased by RC. I installed the new set over the weekend, and have already driven my Tacoma in the rain with the new springs on. So far so good👍, but I will keep you posted if the noise returns

    I put a 10' on my 09 tacoma,I have a vibration/shutter around 20-25 mph..ive tried everything and nothing has fixed the issue!!

    • @5LakesGarage
      @5LakesGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is always something. What is the entire setup on the 09? I would assume the center bearing and U joint are all in OK shape. Maybe a bent drive shaft. Do you take it off road a lot?

      @@5LakesGarage I have a 7' suspension with a 3' body,all New ujoints and new carrier bearing! I dropped it 1' and that made the vibration worse,so I put it back to factory..it still has a small vibration but it isn't completely gone!! It's a prerunner..so it never goes off road!

    If it squeeks hit it with grease !

    • @5LakesGarage
      @5LakesGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      i have used white lithium grease as well as silicone and even wd40. it works for a while and then it comes back. I lift up the rear to droop the leafs and which makes it easier to get in-between the leafs . I heard that RC knows about the issue and might help fix it but I have not looked into it yet. Once i find time to investigate it more i will post it on the channel.
