    It's called buying a angle meter and doing some research. It is also called doing the correct amount of maintenance. My Tacoma has a two piece driveshaft and is lifted 3" with 300k miles on it. Zero problems. It is called phase, all angles have to work together. There is a ton of information on the web including on Tom Woods site. Before you guys jump down my throat I have been using Tom since he worked at Six States driveshaft. No one is better than him. He probably doesn't remember me but I dont care I will always use him. God Bless.

    Setting proper pinion angle is key to less vibration and longer u-joint life. Also. With non greasable u-joints when you pop the caps off to install. Put a blob of grease in each cap. They aren't usually greased that well from the factory. Anything to get longer service life out of your vehicle is better than things wearing and breaking down sooner because it wasn't done right the first time.

    Watched this video before christmas and ordered a Tom Woods replacement shaft for my 2004 Tacoma. I've got a 4" lift on my TRD and its been giving me an assload of vibrations coming from the stock driveshaft. I've already had the rear diff rebuilt because of the wear it caused, this was the only other thing left to do. So easy to do this swap, didnt need any help. Very happy with how smoothly it runs now. Ill be posting a vid of the install I did on my channel soon.

      All of that vibration will cause damage to your differential or the transmission don’t let it go very long. Like get it fixed before you drive any where. It won’t take long to damage something.

Not even a year later and 6k miles the carrier bearing went out. Moved so I had to take it to another place. They couldn’t figure out why they wouldn’t have replaced it when they had it apart. $950 and then another $350. Now it vibrates. Ugh. Should’ve just called these guys. Nice work

    Just a heads up I called them the other day to order a drive shaft and they can’t make them for long bed Tacoma’s. My measurement with my 2.5 lift was 82 1/4 length and their equipment can’t make it to that length. Not to take anything away form the driveshaft itself, I’m sure it works fine but just a heads up that if you have a long bed you have to go elsewhere or just get a carrier bearing spacer and replace the carrier bearing along with making sure your pinion angle is right and the truck should drove fine.

    Once the weight of the shaft isn’t held by the carrier bearing, what does the added weight of a floating shaft do to the transfer case and rear diff?

    • @tomwoodscustomdriveshafts
      @tomwoodscustomdriveshafts 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it does but the bearings in the transfer case and pinion can handle it. I don't have the specs for the bearings in the Tacoma specifically but generally speaking these bearings have radial load ratings in the thousands of pounds. The drive shaft only weighs 40 lbs. The purpose of the carrier bearing on the stock shaft is to support the center of the shaft to prevent it from flexing and bowing due to centrifugal force as it spins at high RPMs. That function of the carrier bearing is indeed being sacrificed with the one-piece design but the end result for most people is much better than what they experience with their stock shaft.

    I have watched alot of Toyota videos because I wanted a Tacoma. After watching these videos I have changed my mind. There is so much you have to do just to lift and have 35 inch tires. Not to mention the gear huntings, tunes , and drive shafts. Wow😮 that's a lot of money just to lift a truck. I'll pass and look at other off road vehicles.

    • @tacomabeast
      @tacomabeast  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly you kinda need the same stuff for other trucks as well. The information is just not out there. Tacoma hold the most amount of support and products when it comes to customization right next to Jeep. Also, the new 20204 Tacoma does not need as much as the 3rd gen needed. You might want to look into that.

    does the new shaft have the same mass as the OEM. I would think having thicker walled pipe would provide two things, a nicer cruise speed on the highway and a tougher to bend or dent off road. It may take a little energy loss off road but the highway on the way and back would make up for it.

    Are there no torque specs for those flange bolts? Just go hand tight?

    No doubt this addresses the vibration issue, but I think we’re missing that some Tacoma’s will need to cut their carrier bearing cross member off to allow for this one piece. This depends on how lifted your truck is. Higher the better and if high enough, you probably don’t need to cut it. Another good alternative is to keep a double drive shaft, but run double cardan joints. No crossmember cutting and no vibes. Good video otherwise.

    I have a 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD OR Automatic. If there's a vibration on accelerating from a stop in 1st gear and it goes away before shifting into 2nd gear, what might be the cause of this? I've researched this thoroughly and the only common issues are vibration at particular highway speeds but I haven't found anything with my particular problem. Please help!

    I had a driveshaft fixed on a freightliner one time and they didn’t get the weld deep enough and the shaft wasn’t held fast to the insert. It held long enough to get me out of the shop.

    What are the torque specs for the drive shaft where it connects to the rear diff?

    • @no_one682
      @no_one682 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe the spec for the 2nd gen is 65 ft/lb. Any flange with multiple bolts should be tightened evenly and in a criss-cross pattern. What he showed with the hand wrenches isn't perfect but probably good enough given the thickness of the flanges and the size of the bolts.

    Hey great vid just wondering if you guys had the dealers on the ends of the drive shaft?

  • @agustinherrera5600

    Mine is lifted about 3” , i do have a carrier bearing drop kit but iv never had any issues . Does having a single piece driveshaft affect the angles of the differential at all ? Is the single piece driveshaft recommended for a certain size lift or any lift ?
