Great to remind people that this drone CAN be used for pro-level shooting. I plan on buying it sometime this year prior to starting my travels again. The drone serves to get establishing shots and can help with action shots as well. Always, always, any equipment has to drive the story. Sometimes folks just desperately want a shot because they love the shot, but if it does not advance the story that shot has to go on the "cutting room floor." The hard core pros are ruthless in editing out even gorgeous footage because it detracts from the pace of the film. Thanks so much for showcasing this important film-making equipment.

Graded my first Mavic Air 2 footage with your SkyGrades LUTS last night. My goodness, your LUTs are great! The D-Cinelike footage looks fantastic. I used a combo of Natural and Cinema. Thanks for creating and sharing these LUTs. For me, it was well worth the small investment! Next, I need to learn out how to use the Neat Video presets properly.

I just bought one of these for a backup for a project and ended up liking it more than pro 2, I originally dismissed this drone because of the size of the sensor but I'm glad I was forced to use it.
Even with Ocusync 2.0, I’m still only reliably receiving in a 500 meter radius. Of course this is in suburban Houston which has extremely heavy RF activity in the gigahertz range.
Hey Frank, I know what you mean. The Ocusync has great range and responsiveness, but it's very dependent on the surrounding RF activity. I've had some dropouts at relatively short distances since making this video.
The Film Poets I also have a cabin on lake Livingston, Texas about 100 miles NE of Houston and can get just over a mile. I’m still very satisfied with the aircraft. It’s a pleasure to fly and the camera is excellent for the price.
Thank you for these settings and the additional information. I still love my Mavic Air 2 and I get sick of all the sick about the MA2s which really is superior with night footage and perhaps range.
Griffin Conway thanks man! Image quality still goes to the Mavic 2 Pro, it feels less like drone footage and you can grade it harder. That is until you need more dynamic range. The HDR mode on the Air is really impressive. Probably has 2 stops of DR over the M2P.
The HDR saturation fix LUT is a good job 👏🏼 didn’t realise it was needed until I saw it! If only we could have manual exposure on this mode. We can only hope...also thanks a heap on the neat video profiles, you cinematic god you🙌🏼👌🏽
this really helps good job i should fly my air 2 ...ive been flying with my m2 pro ... but right now i dont like flying with out the smart controller just because its on another level so, im waiting tell the smart controller firmwere update for the air 2 ! i hope its soon but i cant wait to do some zoom in's with this ! keep up the good job !

If the final, exported film is jumpy then it's most likely a frame rate mismatch between your clips and your timeline. Make sure you're not throwing 30fps into 24fps timeline or something. You can't do that without slowing the clip down to match the frame rate. 30fps doesn't divide evenly into 24fps, so frames have to be skipped. If its just jumpy inside of the editing program your just seeing some lag from the computer. -Matt
Hi, shot for the video it was very helpful, but your HDR Mavic Air 2 LUT does nothing ? I have it on my DaVinci Resolve 16 and no changers were made to the video.
Do you have any info/videos for a workaround on how to shoot video on a Mavic Air 2 in portrait mode? I know you can use the vertical pano for still images, but I shoot a lot of videos for IG reels/TikTok and can't figure out a way to get it into portrait mode! Thank you!!
You just need to keep the composition in mind and shoot normally. So basically shoot much wider than you need, and then make the IG aspect ration and crop in the shot. If you wanted to get really fancy you could make an aspect ratio cutout out of dark colored window cling. Stick it on you phone, and frame inside of the lines. I'd rather just ballpark it though. ND filters are Neutral, which means they don't affect color or contrast (ideally) - So yes you can use them. However I don't because of practical reasons. -Matt
3 years ago, you did a noise reduction/sharpness video about the dji mavic pro creating a soft image. What you recommend in the video, isn’t something you can do on the dji mavic air 2. I just shot with it today and got a bit of softness around the corner of the image. I shot the video during sunset. Anything I can do to get rid of the softness for future videos?

Just got the Mavic air 2 as my first drone. Some of this video may as well have been in Spanish for me (and I really don't mean that in a derogatory way!), where is a good place for a newb to get started with all the basic techniques and terminology?
This is just a setup guide for the camera. Keep it simple at first by shooting in normal color mode. But I REALLY suggest starting to edit in a program that can grow with you, because it's hard to change later. If you think you might start making films often, I suggest using Davinic Resolve, its free, and awesome. I also like FCPX for editing.
Showing my ignorance here, but why do you recommend H.265 over H.264? The first thing I do with my Mavic Air 2 footage is to import to FCPX, which I'm assuming decompresses the video for editing. That being the case, why does it matter what format I used on the MA2? Is H.265 better quality? Thanks for the awesome video. Keep them coming!
Editing programs don't decompress footage, they read the footage in its compressed format. h265 compression is 2x higher quality for the same bit rate, but it's a little harder on the computer to playback. -Matt

on a Mac, MOV is fine. mp4 is just more universal, but there's no difference in quality.

At 5:32 are you shooting that at 60FPS then speed ramping it in the editior or is that 24FPS slowed down
thats a 120p shot, you cant slow 24p down to look like that.

If you're talking about exporting from your editing program, you don't. Just export a high bitrate h264.

The SkyGrades LUTs work with video editors. So FCPX, Premiere pro, DaVinci resolve, etc...
