You’re getting a sanitized and idealized version of orthodoxy. It is a religion based on man-made tradition don’t get fooled. They have very man- centered theology. They fully reject the gospel of the grace of God and have a religion of man-made doctrines. They have admitted teachings that are contrary to the word of God, and they minimize biblical teaching in the elevate tradition far above holy scripture.

I am so grateful to Luther for opening our eyes from Catholic church and Orthodoxy. If I had to chose from Catholic or Greek Orthodox, I would choose Greek Orthodox but I am a protestant but definitely not a Calvanist! Love the worship in protestant church. Did you know that icon is synonymous to idol? Pastor Francis chan studied orthodoxy but he really did not become one.ibdont need icons or incense or specific chants in order to have true meaningful worship. If Orthodox wants this that's fine for them but it's not needed or required at all.

It’s how Protestant seminaries approach church history. It only focuses on the western world of Christianity. So the focus is more “anti-Roman Catholic” and “why we should build our churches from the Bible and not ‘the traditions of men.’”
They miss out on the beauty of the eastern church, and the rational alternative to the Roman/Papal church. If only the reformers traveled and studied the eastern church, there wouldn’t be Protestant Christianity in all its forms.

Well, he’s helping make Western Rite Orthodoxy more Anglican. I’m a member of the Anglican Sub-rite within the Antioch WR Vicariate, although in my case, that’s an accident of location than love of tradition. I’m formerly Roman Catholic turned Western Rite Orthodox, with a deep love of The Dialogist’s Liturgy, but Saint Tikhon’s Anglican style liturgy is most available for me.
Most of the congregation are all former Anglicans, however, including our priests.

I have been an Orthodox Christian for 34 years now, and it is fascinating to listen to those in the West who profess Christ, but they don't want the bells, and whistles.
May I ask you politely, why do you think that Jesus remained with the Apostles for 40 days for? To drink tea and talk about the fun they had together?
He Rose on the 3rd day, and established His Church with the Apostles, in exactly the format that He required for His worship.
We see the same type of instructional activity in Leviticus, where God establishes the exact order and doctrinal worship that He requires of the Jews. They didn't make up their own rules and procedures, they had to follow the commands of God to the letter, or there would be consequences.
It is no different for the New Testament Church, and Christ established His Church which is known today, as the Orthodox Church.
Once the Christian Church was universal, but Satan never sleeps, and tragically the western part of the Church fell into heresy, and was thus separated from the Eastern part of the Church, which primarily remains unchanged.
The West continued to fragment into multiple segments each proclaing to teach and preach Christ in truth (could these be the false Christ's that are referred to in the New Testament), but aren't interested in what Christ Himself established.
One can understand the disappointment and confusion in the Western world with Christianity, as they have lost the very essence of the Truth of Christ, actually imitating the Arian heresy of Arius and others.

Honestly, so much of it happens behind closed doors and there's a bias to not telling other people about one's own spiritual life. Even as a convert its one of those things that I've had to get used to, coming from a charismatic background where everyone's spirituality was out front and on display. But it could also be that your parish was just that way, which makes me sad to think about.

@@alexschexnayder8624 yes I agree. Lots of Orthodox people are private about their spiritual lives. It has to do with the publican and the pharisee, where you’re not supposed to be like the pharisee and boast about your prayer life in front of others to see you.
It’s also possible that particular parish wasn’t spiritual, sad but who knows, right?
