Carers allowance is a lot more complicated than this - there are all kind of hacks such as legitimate work expenses that can be deducted from your pay - such as a lease car on PCP you need for your job or a mileage or meals allowance, half your pension contributions, any tax and NI etc - and also, dont forget that the earnings threshold means just that - it only counts earned income - not unearned income from, e.g., a workplace pension or income from premium bonds or investments. If your income rises, it is usually better to top up your pension contributions - most schemes allow this.
Hi , I would like to ask regarding the foster parent. If I become a foster parent am I able to apply for a spouse visa? I know it’s a different topic but I wanna confirm this ? And also is the payments are tax free for foster parents? Thank you
Yes, you can still apply for a spouse visa while being a foster parent. There's no restriction on fostering affecting your spouse visa eligibility. However, the main focus of the spouse visa application is your relationship with your spouse who already has settled status in the UK. Being a foster parent might be seen positively as demonstrating your caring nature and ability to handle responsibility, but it's not the primary factor. Yes, foster parent allowances are tax-free! The UK government offers tax relief for foster carers. This means you don't pay income tax on: The first £18,140 of your total fostering income per tax year. An additional weekly amount for each child you foster. www.gov.uk/support-for-foster-parents/tax-arrangements
Hi, I understand most of the criteria for the allowance, the only thing I am having trouble with is the earnings cap of £151. I am self employed so if I was to do a job now, I will not be paying tax on it for approx18 months, how can I possibly work out my earnings after tax. For all we know the tax rate could change by then, also I have to work out the total expenses then divide it up between the jobs I do. It seems like the £151 figure is aimed at employed people who have a pay slip and can show the amount after tax. Also I think I read somewhere that earnings can be averaged out, is that correct, could I earn say £300 one week and nothing the next or could I earn £500 one week and say I'm not claiming this week and go back to claiming the following week. sorry for the long question, thanks.
You're right, the earnings cap can be trickier for self-employed folks. Use Net Profit, Not Gross Income, let me explain you, For Carer's Allowance, you consider your net earnings after allowable deductions like tax and National Insurance (NI) contributions. Since you won't be paying tax immediately, focus on your net profit after expenses. You're correct about averaging. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) can average your earnings over a set period (usually 5 weeks) to get a clearer picture of your income. Your scenario of earning £300 one week and nothing the next is perfectly fine. Averaging will account for these fluctuations. Earning £500 one week and then taking a break doesn't disqualify you for the next week as long as your averaged earnings stay below £151 per week. Remember, the £151 limit is a weekly average, so some flexibility exists as long as your overall earnings stay within the limit. Hope this helps...
My mother gets pip, I help her by cooking for her, doing house work and I help her with shopping, taking her to appointments ect ect. I work 12 hours for 4 days per week. So would I be able to apply?
Based on what you've described, it's possible you might be eligible for Carer's Allowance in the UK, but there are a few things to consider: Carer's Allowance is for people who care for someone needing at least 35 hours of care per week due to illness, disability, or frailty.
carer for wife but only getting carer allowance.. i went to advice center for carer element claim but they've told me that get right amount for carer which is £327.60 a month . Do you think this correct amount ?
Technically if I calculate the monthly payment, If i multiply the weekly rate by 4.3 (assuming there are 4.3 weeks in a month on average): £81.90 per week * 4.3 weeks/month = £352.47 per month but if you're receiving other benefits, such as Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment, these might be impacting the amount of Carer Allowance you're entitled to and may be that is why the diff is, but if you are not then I think, it needs checked again
Hi knowledge guru, I would like to know ,can I get paid as regular carer for my in law through care company as a carer. Coz they said as I"m a family member, and company policy's not going to allow them to put me a regular carer.my mum is an OCD patient is there any thing that I can do and she is getting low rate disability allowance.
You need to spend at least 35 hours a week caring for someone. And the person you care for must already receive one of the following benefits: Personal Independence Payment (daily living component) Disability Living Allowance (the middle or highest care rate) Attendance Allowance Constant Attendance Allowance at or above the normal maximum rate with an Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit Constant Attendance Allowance at the basic (full day) rate with a War Disablement Pension Armed Forces Independence Payment Child Disability Payment (the middle or highest care rate) Adult Disability Payment (daily living component at the standard or enhanced rate)

I am on esa support group income related esa plys standard rate pip can i claim carers allowance as i live with my mum snd she has parkinsons , will claiming carers allowance affect my other benefits at all ?
You generally cannot receive Carer's Allowance while on income-related ESA. However, you can claim an "underlying entitlement" to Carer's Allowance. This means you meet the criteria but won't receive the payment itself because of income-related ESA. This "underlying entitlement" might become relevant in the future if your circumstances change, such as switching to contribution-based ESA. If your mother receives a "severe disability premium" with her benefits, this might stop when you claim Carer's Allowance.
Hi, My mother-in-law gets my husband career allowance. I care my husband. How do I transfer my husband career allowance and add my name. Please let me know.
Unfortunately, Carer's Allowance cannot be transferred between spouses or family members. The allowance is awarded to the person who provides the care, not the recipient of the care.
There isn't a guaranteed timeframe for receiving a Carer's Allowance approval letter. While three weeks is a common timeframe, processing times can be longer depending on individual circumstances or if additional checks are needed.
If I'm earning £139 per week, that amounts to £556 monthly. And on top of that, if I'm receiving a carer's allowance of £76.75 per week, it adds up to £307 monthly. Altogether, it looks like I'm making £863 per month. I'm just not sure if I'm under the earnings limit or over it. Can you help explain how it all works? The website info isn't clear, and I'm feeling a bit lost. Thanks!"
You're right, the information can be confusing! Let's break it down to see if your earnings are under the Carer's Allowance limit. Carer's Allowance Earnings Limit Update (April 2024): The good news is that the Carer's Allowance earnings limit has increased from £139 per week in 2023/24 to £151 per week starting April 2024. Here's how it applies to you: Your earnings: £139 per week New Earnings Limit: £151 per week Since your weekly earnings (£139) are below the new weekly earnings limit (£151), you should be okay to continue receiving Carer's Allowance. Monthly Calculations: Weekly earnings: £139 Monthly earnings (after 4 weeks): £139/week * 4 weeks/month = £556/month Carer's Allowance is not counted towards earnings limit. Therefore, even if you add your Carer's Allowance amount: Monthly Carer's Allowance: £76.75/week * 4 weeks/month = £307/month Combined monthly income: £556 (your earnings) + £307 (Carer's Allowance) = £863/month The Carer's Allowance itself doesn't affect your earnings limit assessment. So, as long as your earnings stay under £151 per week, you should be eligible to continue receiving the Carer's Allowance www.gov.uk/carers-allowance

Weekly earnings: £139
Monthly earnings (after 4 weeks): £139/week * 4 weeks/month = £556/month
Carer's Allowance is not counted towards earnings limit.
Therefore, even if you add your Carer's Allowance amount:
Monthly Carer's Allowance: £76.75/week * 4 weeks/month = £307/month
Combined monthly income: £556 (your earnings) + £307 (Carer's Allowance) = £863/month
The Carer's Allowance itself doesn't affect your earnings limit assessment. So, as long as your earnings stay under £151 per week, you should be eligible to continue receiving the Carer's Allowance www.gov.uk/carers-allowance
