    Everyone raves about the Bugout. I bought a mini bugout and I like it a lot, but it's a little small in my hands. I bought a Bugout and absolutely hate it. It's been sitting in the "knife drawer" for months. All of a sudden, TH-cam started feeding me videos... so I have KPL and Flytanium scales on order!!! I can't wait to love this knife as much as I should have to begin with. Thanks for the video!

    I’m with you, the Benchmade “Grivory” is injection molded plastic that isn’t finished properly with injection ports left exposed and feeling like cheap plastic . The Bugout is a nice model if you swap out your Grivory. I bought a nice contoured burlap micarta that made the knife fell like the quality I want and a more ridge platform.

    Great video. I installed Flytanium Crossfade scales in Flat Dark Earth on my former Benchmade Bugout with carbon fiber elite scales. I agree with you that they just feel cheap. I appreciate the light weight but I prefer my Bugout with the Flytanium G10 scales.

    I can relate. And this comes from someone who happily carried an Endura for most of a decade. From reviews I knew I'd hate the factory scales. I hated the Griptillian scales so much I dumped 3 or 4 of them and replaced with the over priced G10 versions. Anyhow, I bought my titanium scales FIRST and about 3 months later finally got around to buying the knife. I never even opened it, just stripped it and put the new scales on. Only way to go. Only thing I really did differently is remove the factory lube and replace with KPL after polishing the washers on a 3000 grit stone.

    • @pro2andy791
      @pro2andy791  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Len Zielenski I’d say that really smoothed out the action of the knife. I should have probably done that as well. Oh and you are correct those factory scales are horrible.

    Just a heads up, a dab of loctite on the pivot does wonders. My pivot screw kept backing itself out of a brand new CF Elite that I bought and every screw on the right scale was loose.

    I got brass scales. I like the blade, but didn't like the lightweight scales. You're right they feel like scales you get when you buy a knife out of a bulk jug at flea market. But before I could put my scales on I had to send my brand new bugout to benchmade to get the broken axis lock fixed. I literally opened it 5 times and it took a shit on me.

    When installing the pivot pin where does the flat spot go? Towards the top end? 12oclock?

  • @lighteningwawa
    @lighteningwawa 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks! This technique can also be used to replace the omega springs, I guess. Replace the spring one side, then flip over to the other while holding the pivot. Then replace the other spring.

    When you say Loctite, you mean thread locker, right? This might confuse some people since Loctite is a glue manufacturer..and then use superglue to lock in the screws.
    I really wish people (especially knife-tubers) could just start using the correct terms.
    Thread locker is made by many different companies..not just Loctite.

    Once a benchmade is broken in it will drop on it's own. I've never loosened the pivot to make it drop. I just open and close it then usually within a day or two it's broken in.

    Nope you are 100% correct them bugout scale are cheap rediculas I can't stand standard scales and I don't feel confident using it for any real hard tasks with them weak feeling scales. so I put TI scales on my bugout No lanyard hole I'm not a lanyard fan so for all Spyderco Barrell tubes I buy these great solid plugs, solid.spiral.and my fav in the tube hole are cross hairs like on a scope I have many colors it just brings out my mod a lil more. Good vid

    I just put the brand new contoured titanium scales from flytanium on mine yesterday. It’s Much better but I must say I think it’s it bit sad that the knife kind of sucks until you change scales. Once you’ve made it a $200 knife it’s great. 😂

    Here is how I feel….if you know the bugout feels cheap, then don’t buy it. There are plenty of other offers that would meet your needs. It’s like the videos where people buy a glock and replace everything on it. Or a Kimber, and they replace this and that, and now it works. But sir, it’s your money, and I respect your view, you do you. 😀

    I love how people advocate for GRN handles by saying their lightweight...any full sized knife below 3.5 oz is barely noticeable in the pocket, Benchmade coulda gone with micarta or even G10 originally for the bugout and it still would have been under 2.5 oz...GRN sucks
