  • in my quest for growth, I am building this suspended pallet log even taller. Jap zap requires so much timing and I wanted to share a few of the things I'm learning along the way. this is not a how-to but rather just my story of things I'm learning. I had to secure this pallet even more as it kept moving on me but I think I've got it nailed down pretty well now.
    fully disengage clutch, wait for timing to pop
    contact front wheel low on the log or rather behind it instead of on top
    build the RPMs early

    Watching this reminds me so much of my own learning process, which you can see in some of my early videos. I'd make all the same mistakes and then nail that one and feel so stoked about it. You already completely understand the timing, which is the hardest part of the zap and what most folks never figure out. Now to get consistent it's just gonna take lots of repetition. Great setup for it too - I really like a rounded obstacle like a log that you can hit because it gives you a bigger target to land your front wheel as opposed to a wall where you're aiming for a tiny edge. As you get more comfortable, consider trying to get on the brakes as soon as possible on top, see how short you can stop - this will also train your rear brake instinct so you don't end up looping it (even if you do, no biggie!)

      Right on. I have a wall too, but like you said. Tiny edges are hard to hit compared to this bigger log. I've started to stop and turn directly afterwards. But didn't get any footage of that. Good call on getting habbits built on covering brake. Thanks for the input

    Great video.
    I am struglin on the zap.
    Do you release throttle as soon as you pop the clutch ?
    Thanks for all your video.

    • @TrialsProgression
      @TrialsProgression  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can, especially if you get really good lift and are going to make rear tire all the way to top of obstacle, then Slip clutch with little gas to hold pressure/wheelie on top.
      I usually keep my throttle on maybe half from where it was on clutch pop especially if I don't get the lift and need to in order to keep rear tire driving up back part of log. Can always pull in clutch if it's too much gas on top and starting to loop out. That make sense? Good luck, it's a really hard technique to get

    As a beginner myself ,Why use zap vs double blip,, Keep it up,

    • @TrialsProgression
      @TrialsProgression  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are asking me, I'd say zap for undercut logs. Otherwise if obstacle is not high a double blip and deweight of pegs will do the trick. Can also use when logs are on an angle/wet and if you drive the back wheel in on a double blip, it could slip out sideways. Besides, it's really fun when it works and bike feels weightless 😃

    • @DirtJunkie
      @DirtJunkie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, zap is best for showing off :D But yeah aside from that, mostly only needed for undercut stuff.

      I zap everything, I have not used a double blip since I learned how to zap. If I can’t zap it, I splatter it.

    • @michaelmangrum5460

      @@TrialsProgression I have some confusion. What's the difference between zap and splat ? And in what situation are each used ?
