    A good mix of everything, however i think that at least 60-70% of videos should be aimed at mid-level players since this is the skill level hardest to surpass. Low-level tutorials can already be found all over the internet and should allow most new players to reach mid-level within a year due to how accessible info is now.

      123peeonyou Maybe i should have been clear about what i meant by "mid level". Within a year i think you should be at the point where l-cancelling, wavedashing, aerials oOs, etc. should be on-lock and second nature, and the jump to high-level will take a much longer time as it is mostly mental training, game knowledge, matchup knowledge, etc.

    Your 'How To Beat' videos are well produced & fun to watch. While they highlight how to exploit character weaknesses, they also make those that main the character in question aware of the exploits.
    B/c of that, I think they provide good insight for complete noobs or more advanced players ;D
    So uh, to answer that question at the end of the vid, keep up the awesome work!

    I prefer your matchup guides more than anything, these are very well put together and easy to understand. Meanwhile there's already a lot of great tutorials out there on basic techskill.

    • @chocolatelovin6982

      Dr. Bread not true. someone can have good mechanics and tech skill but not be very knowledgable about match ups or very specific skills like aerial drift for example

    • @chocolatelovin6982
      @chocolatelovin6982 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      plus advanced tutorials would target intermediate audiences where its easiest to hit walls i feel, not advanced players who already know or can figure out these things out themselves

      @zvd2889 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I think the "two extremes" approach to future tutorials is a GREAT idea. Give brand new players the information they need, and give advanced players the in-depth analysis that they can add to their already developed games.
    I am not alone when I say that I have learned so much from these videos, keep it up fellas.

    I really love the idea of super specific, in depth tutorials on micro-interactions in the game. The video about Mango's aerial drift was amazing and really enlightening because you guys were able to go into full detail about such a small topic that players often do without thinking. There is definitely also room for videos like how to waveshine or how to edgeguard "X" character, but those videos don't have the detail the aforementioned advanced videos have. It's good to mix it up.
    That said, you touched on it in this video but a tutorial about Marth's ledge game (Aerials, Aerial Timings, Etc.) would be awesome to watch and could be helpful to a lot of players. Love the channel!

    these "how to beat X Character" guides are actually incredible. They are very very in-depth and really improve players ( such as myself's ) neutral game. I think you should keep on pushing these out because they seem to be the most beneficial to watch if a player is struggling against a certain character =]

    my favorite video of yours is samus neutral game- a number of solid tips that outline a characters playstyle, is easy to implement, and makes sense out of the chaos that is melee. it's also very nice to have experts come in and share their knowledge, like hugs did in The samus video (don't misunderstand me here, kira is a GOD and does an impeccable job on the videos). things that would potentially be good is aRookie Mario tutorial, abate luigi tutorial, maybe something on why Plup's samus was(/is?) the best ever.
    all in all I like:
    - videos that line up central concepts and go through mix ups and nuances in an A, B, C-manner
    - character experts sharing their wisdom
    your channel is one of the best on youtube and DEFINITELY the best melee channel by a wide margin : you take the game as seriously as it should be taken.

  • @shmurdy
    @shmurdy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I personally think the videos you should upload the most often (in order) are:
    How to combo with X/ How to do X technique
    General match up guides (how to beat X)
    Higher Level analysis/ Advanced Fundamentals
    More Basic How-to's
    Specific match up guides (fox vs falcon ones)
    You should make sure to have a healthy mix of these still, like every 10 videos should have at least 1 of each, along with maybe some extra videos you plan on doing (First Tournament, 1 minute tutorials, interviews and stuff, etc.)

      Always look on how to improve, whether it's your weaknesses or your strengths. Mew2King has improved over the years by constantly mixing up the strategies he uses against people in tournament. Thus, he has lots of knowledge on what works at certain points, compared to what doesn't. It's okay to not be a flowchart Marth player; try to experiment whenever you can, and use what you learn to make yourself a better player.

  • @carlquestad9096
    @carlquestad9096 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    great video. very well organized. as im sure you already know, videos like the mango drift ones will be more informative and helpful at all levels. things like waveshines are easier to understand without a video. so, i think more videos like the mango aerial drift and more fundamental are better for this channel, because ssbm tutorials is one of the only sources that is available to beginners and intermediates that can cover mental fumdentals and adaption. again thanks for the vid, and thanks for all you have done with the channel i would not be where u am in melee today without it

  • @whatarewaves
    @whatarewaves 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think you've established a great basis for most new players who want to try and get good. Some more advanced videos like the mango marth videos would be great. watching the aerial drift video made me really rethink what i should be thinking about during a match. If there was a better bridge between people who compete at local tourneys and the people who can make it out of pools that'd be great.

    I think the how to beat videos are the most valuable videos on the channel. Tech skill can be learned by just grinding it out in practice mode for the most part, but quality matchup knowledge can take years to obtain. I think the "how to beat" series in general will raise the quality of the community vastly faster.

    Right after I finish my fox vs marth practice for pm too LOL. Great vid, I think there are already loads of videos aimed at completely new players, so there's no need to make more unless you make it a much lower priority. I'd suggest emphasizing making videos aimed at the mid-level cause that's the hardest level to get above, but definitely mix up the noob and advanced tutorials like you do now.

  • @POTUS_FGC
    @POTUS_FGC 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your video on mango was amazing, i dont play melee i just watch so more guides on specific players are great cus they teach you people's styles and thats interesting whether you play or not. Videos like this and the Are you an x player? series are really cool because they teach you about the game as a whole and where every character sits (kind of a shit explanation but just know that i love them lol)
    Super noob videos are boring to watch because they're normally just tech or things that are picked up through practice. theres already tonnes and tonnes of frame by frame 2 hour long tutorials on how to grab a ledge we dont need any more :P
    Overall i love all the videos you've put out so far and whatever you do next is gonna be great, editing is clean, scripts are concise and snappy and you always have a heap of visuals to explain what youre saying in the game, keep it up

    First I'd like to say that I love your channel and videos. This one is certainly an excellent addition. To get to my point, though, I love how you show Link in your videos, as though you're saying that he IS viable and not "low tier garbage" (I certainly believe he's viable). I may be a bit biased being a Link main, but he's someone that so many players under appreciate, and he's extremely difficult to master. Harder to master than Falco, but easier to master than Fox. He IS highly technical and has a lot of tricks up his sleeve. He's highly underrated. Anyway, I'm looking forward to when you eventually do his profile video (because I assume you plan on doing all the characters eventually.) Keep up the excellent videos, Kira!

    I feel like a mix of everything would be best. You really condense all the basic stuff down so it's really easy to grasp, making it convinent for newer players who don't want to watch a 10 minute video of wave shining can just go to your account and see a like, 2-3 minute video.

  • @Junk-Troller
    @Junk-Troller 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like a good mix of levels in the videos. Some stuff for newer players to look through, but also a little bit for the older more experienced players to chew on. Generally I like the "Are you a ___ player" videos and the "how to beat ___" videos. Also the more in depth vids like the Mango Marth one are great. I think just in general the mix you've had has been good.

  • @Nintega2K
    @Nintega2K 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    There are plenty of things i'd like to see on this channel.
    1. More tech based stuff on this channel, like how to time things frame by frame, how to hit percise angles, & even how to be able to do more inputs per second. Melee is for the most part a difficult game to play, which detracts a lot of newcomers to the game. So covering those things can certainly help them.
    2. Current things happening in Melee's Metagame, like V-Canceling, The Inv Ceiling Glitch, Hungrybox's Run in 2016, & most importantly, SmashBox.
    3. A Video on How to pick your character. While the Are you a ___ Player series does give them help on who best fits their playstyle, there are many players out there that have many other conditions for finding their main, like Tiers, Difficulty, Matchups, etc.
    4. A video on how to punish the Top 5 noob mistakes in Melee. There are players of almost a semi pro that can handle players as good or slightly better than them, but can't handle some lower level players that do bad things they don't know how to get around yet. In particular, spamming double jump is something i have trouble punishing in many platform fighters.
    Finally, 5. I'd like to see you expand beyond SSBM in a new channel (though still in Smash Territory, because i know of your overwatch channel) If you like the idea but don't know where to start, Project M is by far the best option. Rivals of Aether already has a pretty good in game tutorial, & there are already plenty of Smash 4 tutorials out there (though it would be cool to see the are you a ___ player series for Smash 4) Project M is very similar to Melee, & not to mention the community could absolutely use all the support it can get! You can talk with the guys at PM Underground if you ever get stuck too!

      SSBM Tutorials I hope it's because you're so busy with the Melee side of your channel. In that case, i can understand, but maybe you could use more people on your team then. Not saying i'd do it, but just some advise. Because Project M Can't afford the lack of support right now, but if you're really that busy with Melee, i fully understand.

    There are a fair amount of tutorials on waveshining and basic melee mechanics. I mean all vids help I've only played for 9 months but I think maybe a tutorial about overal fighting mechanics would be better rather than tech. I think that is a guide I've never seen and just a video explaining situations to the new players could help them get in a better mind set. I've improved a lot after staying up till 5 am to ask leffen/armada stupid questions but leffen one day spoke about "the right option" one day and it really helped me. Maybe just an analyzing series would be really cool to see :^) (although tips on wave shining would be helpful lol)

    Thanks dude, this is handy. Got a marthplayer who I go up against regularly, with the same rate of improvement as I have but just a few steps ahead of me. (Like a bloody annoying Kakarot to my Vegeta, if you get the metaphor). This'll help to consistantly whoop his ass :D

    KIRA I just wanted to say I live in ohio and I'm surrounded by cornfields. but I have dolphin and smash and I love the game and I'm so glad that I'm able to learn the competitive aspects of the game from your channel even though I'm so far from the center of smash culture! keep making videos pls!

    I think that the more videos you upload the better. Obviously you dont want to saturate your channel with content, but i think having both advanced tutorials and having beginner tutorials is good. Check out some of the topics duscussed on some of Remix's channel. He has a lot of really good advanced tutorials that could give you some inspiration.

    Hello there! Thank you for making a video against my cryptonite marth. ^^
    Still gotta Question: Which GC Controller is the best because i have a smashcontroller released at the time of smash 4 and a original gc controller and i heard that there are differences besides the 3rd party controller i already know they are crap... So which controller is the best?!

    it really needs to be a mix of everything, i can wave shine for days but i still suck and that mango marth mix up was just plain good brain candy.

    This is like food for a marth main to soak up and make himself invincible by fixing all of his weaknesses.

    Hey, Kira! I was wondering if you can make a Marth vs Falcon matchup guide because as a Marth main I have difficulty with dealing with his combos and stuff and neutral.

    yeah, I'd like to see mare advanced/strategic/conceptual stuff. new players will only need these basic skill videos for so long anyway

    I think that for me, the videos are at the perfect skill level. However I'm going to my first tournament this Saturday (Eden!) and if I start to get better, I think more advanced tutorials could be helpful.

    More advanced/theory stuff, definitely. There are already tons of guides on how to WD and it's honestly super easy to understand. If you can't dot effectively; don't need another explanation, you just need to practice.

    I think it should be a good mix, cause I personally live in a very low skill state and having the tutorials aimed at tech and low lvl stuff really helps when you don't have other people to play with

    for anyone not sure about this: you dont actually have to attack somebody in order to punish their dash back, you can actually just take the stage control they give up in the process and corner them. This is one of the low-risk, low-reward ways to punish dash-dancing, but it is very good if you can easily take advantage of the stage you take up, or if you're playing against a character who sucks in the corner(marth, falcon, puff)

    I like this type of mix you have going on in your videos but I would like to see more advanced footage more often. You could also rank your videos on beginner to advance levels like you used to do. Fox specific tutorial was advanced while sheik down throw on marth follow ups are intermediate.

    It can be hard to find exactly the guide you're looking for, especially when you're playing with/against low tiers a lot and having trouble with those. But the guides themselves are great and have potential to expand more towards both the lower and the higher level players, depending on how much time you're willing to have each video take up. Personally I think you can stretch to around 7-8 minutes, so there's still a little wiggling room for expansion.

    It would be sweet if there were more videos that broke down the techniques of specific top players. For example, you could try to analyze parts of Armada's punish game. I know that what would be ambitious, but it would be interesting nonetheless.
