  • In today's episode of Micro Melee, we look at how to shoot faster lasers. This is the first in a series of videos focusing on how to shoot better lasers. While we focus on speed here, in later episodes we will look at spacing and heights!

    Great video as always, makes it super obvious how big of a difference it is
    If I want to prioritize speed over control for lasers, I take advantage of the control sticks 3 frame buffer by tap jumping instead. This makes getting a frame perfect jump after landing pretty much guaranteed but at the cost of control (buffer jump means your muscle memory could be potentially off for the laser AND fast fall if you press early)
    Highly recommend worth trying!

      This is incredible for doing a really smooth low laser > high laser.

    Also, if you shoot a low laser then follow up with a high laser (lasering as fast as possible after jumping) that is the smallest gap between lasers you can get. This gives your opponent less time to act in between, assuming they can't dash or duck below the second laser.

    Do you do any audio editing to make it sound cleaner in the final cut? I am looking into it for not only video making but music vocals as well. Would love to hear some mic advice. Fantastic video once again! Have a good one!

    • @Radarssbm

      None of the audio in this video is edited, outside of me removing any pauses etc, but nothing affecting sound. This was intentional to show off the sound of the mic.
      Usually I do use some EQ and stuff to clean things up a little with my main mic (a shure SM57 going into a Focusrite 2i2)
      I think if your budget is low, it might not be a bad option for vocals, but it really depends on what you’re looking for! I personally haven’t used it for that so I can’t vouch for it as confidently as I can for general dialogue. I do think in general if you know what you’re doing on the production side of things, you can always make a mic sound nicer than it does out of the box.
      One thing worth mentioning with all mics is this: the room you’re in will have just as big an impact as the mic will. If you do vocals/dialogue and it sounds too reverb-y you can literally try recording with a thick blanket over your head…crazy…but it works! I don’t do this personally, but I am probably gonna look into getting some kind of acoustic treatment eventually just to dampen the reverb in the room. Basic stuff like a thick carpet/bookshelves can help too.

      @@Radarssbm Thank you so much and I never really thought about room acoustics which is something i should look into. Have a good one.

      @@chickenbutt2621 again if you’re just starting out, or using it mostly for voiceover it’s not the biggest deal…but if you’re doing vocals for music I think it’s more important.
      In general with musical recording especially, the goal is often to get a fairly “dry” signal, then add things like reverb back in through effects etc. The idea is that an untreated room kinda sucks, so you’re kinda going for a sound that’s less affected by the room. In contrast to some pro studios, where they might have cool natural reverb/acoustics

    So what I always hear from my friend is when they play slippi facing a Falco's they laser and approach at the same tempo every time. I am sure I fall into this category and I don't know how to switch up my timing. I am still fairly new to Melee only being a month and half in. I am trying to learn movement first as it seems so much more important than learning combos right away. I have a terrible idea of when to approach or when to shoot lasers. Would anyone have any ideas or tips on when to approach or when to shoot lasers?

    • @Radarssbm
      @Radarssbm  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      First off, don’t framing it as “when to shoot lasers and when to approach” is the wrong framing. Think of lasers as a tool for approaching and a tool for defending.
      On a basic level when it comes to approaching you want to think about it in terms of different timings, and what you can do to affect those timings. If the idea is to mixup the timing of your approach, you need to understand what options are attacking options, and what options delay those attacks.
      To extend the tempo/music metaphor, let’s say attacking immediately after you shoot a laser is attacking on beat one. You can do this attack in a variety of ways (grab, aerials, smash attacks, etc) but the timing is some version of laser>attack.
      Attacking on beat two is shooting a laser, dash dancing, then approaching (attacking on beat two). I use dash dancing as an example but there are other ways to delay.
      To use an example for a character without lasers, you could say running in with an aerial is beat one, and running in, wavedashing back, then attacking, is beat two.
      This is just the first layer of mixups, but the basic idea with approaching across all characters is just keeping your timing unpredictable. Even something as simple as alternating between a couple timings turns your attack into someone who only throws rock in RPS, to someone who throws all three options.
      Finally if you want common examples of ways to delay your approach here are some:
      -wave dashing back
      -dash dancing
      - jumping (drifting back or just baiting them vertically)
      - running forward and then standing in place
      - running forward, shielding, then acting.
      As you get better at the game your offense is going to become more and more sophisticated, but hopefully this is a good starting point. this stuff is kind of hard to articulate so feel free to ask questions

    I'm good with Falco Lasers but fox lasers I can't do the double laser.

    • @Radarssbm
      @Radarssbm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fox double lasers are actually pretty bad! They’re a lot slower than single lasers, which leave you vulnerable in a lot of situations. They’re pretty overrated overall and while they can be good in some matchups, I don’t think you should focus on practicing them

    random falco question: any reason falcos/foxes don't shine turnaround wd to grab ledge more often?
    Im just a shitty netplay falco but seems like the fastest way to grab ledge in a lot of situations, I just put it in my game because I like doing it but it seems to catch a lot of people off guard and I've gotten it pretty consistent now. is it bad at higher levels? not consistent enough or are other ways of grabbing ledge just better?
    I guess the shine gives a visual/audio queue where shield stop wd back gives less of one and i see it a lot more. still seems too fast to matter. are either of them slower overall?

    • @Radarssbm
      @Radarssbm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Short answer is that it’s hard to execute and the increased speed often doesn’t make a difference. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s a very fast option, it’s just that a turn around wavedash back is fast enough in most situations
      Longer answer: it’s technically not the fastest either as doing a wavedash forward turn around (basically a PC drop out of wavedash forward near ledge) is faster and arguably easier to execute. Even then, this is assuming you’re far from the edge and not already facing backwards, as the shine turn around is only a good option because it allows you to turn around quickly (so if you’re already facing the right direction you can just wavedash)
      There’s a lot of hard stuff to learn in melee, and (at least imo) grinding something like ledgedashes would be way way more useful than speeding up your ledge grabs by like 5-10 frames in specific situations.
