  • I am always trying to downsize my gear and make things more compact and run and gun friendly. Which is why I've wanted to try out the Olympus 35RC 35mm film camera for a while. So when one popped up on facebook marketplace, I took a risk and bought it to see if it could become my new go to rangefinder. It's that happy medium between too compact with few features, and bigger with automatic features or settings that will get little or no use. This is definitely a great option for anyone looking for a very capable compact 35mm rangefinder.

    I bought one for 3,50€ here in Germany. Absolute in love with it. Sadly my rewinding lever is broken but I crafted one by myself. I used old rose wood from my dad and it looks so good ☺️

    I found mine at an antique shop for $45. Just got my first roll back and am a fan. Definitely thankful I found this little guy. Thanks for spreading the word about it!

      Nice! Solid pick up. Some people will be upset and say it was my fault if and when prices go up lol

    I have the 35DC which has full time program mode, no manual override, apart from a back light button (similar to XA) and ISO dial. So it's even more of a point and shoot. I love it!

    Got this for $5nzd from dump shop and used it way back in 2016. Forgot about and only just got the film developed! Looking forward to using it again

    The Ricoh 500G is a great alternative to the Oly 35RC but the Oly 35RD is my favourite …wider speed range and excellent wide aperture 1.7f lens.

    • @graham_white
      @graham_white  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve wanted to get my hands on the Ricoh but pricing is much higher than what I found this at. Also yes really want to get the 35rd also to try out. Maybe one day ha

    Thanks Graham, nice review. Would you compare this to a yashica gsn?

    • @graham_white
      @graham_white  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like the gsn but this gives you more control I think and works without battery unlike the gsn. I think quality is a better better also but that’s mostly just personal experience and opinion. Plus if I remember correctly you don’t know what shutter speed the gsn will pick

    I’ve heard good things ab the RD as well. Would love to get your review of the new Cinestill 400 roll when you get your hands on it

    • @chrisdunderdale
      @chrisdunderdale 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I've had both and currently have the RD only. The RD a much better camera in IMO (1.7 lens, more control, etc), but the RC is decent.

      Hi I have the SP, RC and RD and prefer the RD. but I have had to have it serviced twice for sticking aperture blades which I understand is a common problem.

  • @GreenlifeFin

    I think it should work without the battery, many use it by manually exposurinf with the Sunny 16 rule.

    • @GreenlifeFin
      @GreenlifeFin ปีที่แล้ว

      With A mode.

    • @graham_white
      @graham_white  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can’t remember off the top my head, it is possible. I know a lot of cameras have at least one speed that works without any batteries like 1/60 or 1/125. I may have also just been referring to the LightMeter and just said it incorrectly.

    I know this is a older video.. I was wondering I own one of these and I have figured out pretty much everything I THINK is needed to use this camera. ISO or ASA is the center of the lens .. Focusing , Loading film, everything except I see some strange metal tab attached to the focus ring. If you press it in and rotate it it snaps into places to line up with some interesting numbers on the lens. They do not seem to be changing the throw of focus or anything .. Is this like some way to shift the ghost image or something inside the finder to calibrate the focus? What is that metal tab really setting? Thanks :).

    • @graham_white
      @graham_white  ปีที่แล้ว

      If I remember correctly it’s for lighting conditions. Does it point to a cloud or person etc? It’s either exposure compensation or for lighting conditions.

      As long as you understand shutter speed, aperture and iso than yeah it’s a simple camera to use without a bunch of bells and whistles to make it confusing

    長い間英語を聞くと頭が痛くなるから、半分しか聞いていないけど、確かにオリンパスSPは大きいし重たいので、完全マニアル可能なオリンパスRCは良いけど、構造が複雑なので故障が多いよ。
    ただオリンパスは自分で修理できるけどね。
    フジカカメラ (コンパクト35)も良いよ一度試してヨ。

    I was happy to find one for 25€, and I like this camera. I cleaned the viewfinder, it's almost like new now. Just a small remark, from about 2 meters, you have to frame wider than the viewfinder, including the shutter speed and aperture numbers in the image... and at the minimum distance, careful with the paralax...

    • @graham_white
      @graham_white  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that parallax is always a big consideration with rangefinders. That’s why I love my Konica iiiA with the parallax correction guides that adjust with the focus
