    35mm RANGEFINDER BATTLE REACTION
    In this video I give my reaction to the battle videos I made with the Yashica Electro 35, Canon Canonet QL17 G3, and the Olympus 35 RC.
    All of these 35mm rangefinder cameras are a joy to use and offer solid result. They are also easy to use, and minimal in appearance.
    I access these cameras from a user experience point of view and go over the following categories:
    Ease of Use
    Viewfinder
    Ergonomics
    Lens
    Price
    These are things which stood out to me most while using the cameras, and I believe these are things I'd want to know if I planned on buying any of these film cameras.
    Please keep in mind these are just my opinions. Feel free to feel however you want about these cameras. What works for me might now work for you. And we may not have the same experiences using the same camera. ✌️
    If you haven't watched the battle videos, here are the link:

    About this channel:
    Here on my channel I explore 35mm film photography, street photography, portrait photography, cheap photography, bts photography, black and white photography, cheap dslr cameras, color negative film photography, medium format photography, medium format cameras, 120mm film photography, and photography improvement, much more.
    I'm also team Olympus Om-1 and Om-4 at the moment. However, I still use and explore other cameras. Street photography cameras are my jam, but medium format cameras like the Pentax 67 are quickly climbing the scale.
    I hope you'll join me on my photo journey 'Subscribe' to my channel.

    I hope you all enjoy the video. I misspoke about the Canonet QL17. It has shutter priority mode, not aperture priority mode. Forgive me. 🙏 😊

      Same with the RC. When you set it to A, you can only choose shutter speed.
      Fun little bit of trivia is that it was nicknamed "little richard".

    Helpful tip in buying a Yashica Electro. There were about 10 models of this camera. They are all relatively similar..BUT, the Yashica Electro GL uses a silicon diode light meter as opposed to the older, less reliable, less accurate Cadmium Sulphide light meter.
    The GL version is far superior in terms of getting the right exposure compared to the GSN version you reviewed in this video.
    For what it’s worth, the Canonet and the Olympus 35 RC also uses the older less reliable Cadmium Sulphide (CDS) meter. Many cameras using the newer silicon light meter are still working today but almost all of the older CDS meters are either no longer working at all or they’re greatly degraded in terms of their sensitivity.
    This is not an issue if you know how to shoot without a working light meter or if you use a handheld meter but if you want an older film camera with a working and reliable light meter, go for one that uses the Silicon Diode meter.
    Hope this helps.
    Correction: The GX model also uses a silicon light meter but it’s max iso is 800 whereas the GL goes to 1600. Both use the 40mm 1.7 lens in contrast to the rest of the models that come with the 45mm.

    You can shoot the Yashica Electro 35 w/o a battery, as it will default to 1/500 speed. Then just adjust your aperture and use an external light meter.

    Love this! The 35RC was my first ever camera. When my grandparents gave it to me they were like "if she likes it, this will be good, but if she breaks it, it wasn't that valuable either." 😂 I got to use the Canonet QL17 a little later, and I had a lot of fun with it. I thought QL17 was really super. It has parallax correction in the viewfinder (if you look you see the frame move around as you focus) and that quick loading system. It also has a really lovely lens. It's funny to say this, but since I was so used to my 35RC and I'm also a smaller person, the QL17 felt a bit big and heavy. Even with all the good features it has, I just liked the 35RC a bit better since everything from the controls and the size just felt right in my hands. I also liked the look from lens on the 35RC a lot even though it's a bit slower. I love seeing the aperture and shutter speed in the viewfinder when shooting. Since I have smaller fingers, I can use my left pointer to focus which seems to work comfortably for me even without the tab the QL17 has. It's such a lovely little gem

      @TalyaAdams  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really love my 35rc as well. I don’t use it as much anymore since I have the Ql17, but I keep it around bc of a love for the lens. Beautiful images w this camera. Glad you enjoyed the video.

    If you want manual control on the Yashica, I believe you could change the ASA/ISO in order to “fool” meter into over- or under-exposing as you desire. Not very convenient, but at least you can deviate from full auto if you have to. Just don’t forget what the actual ISO/ASA of the film is!

    • @TalyaAdams
      @TalyaAdams  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, this is definitely a work around. It's just not something I probably would've kept up with very well seeing as to how I forget which film I leave in cameras more than I'd like to admit. Thanks for watching!

    Battery dependence on Yashica is definitely an issue as there is no battery for it anymore. You can buy a converter (Yashica guy) but mine didn’t last long. The QL17GIII has easier to purchase batteries/converters with no resistors or simply shoot manual. The Yashica is also much heavier, once you hold the QL17GIII you won’t go back to the Yashica.

    The 35 RC is a sleeper. The reason it's sharp is that it's a 5 element copy of the zeiss sonnar design. Many compact cameras use the four element tessar design. So if you nail your focus, you'll have images on par with Contax t2, Nikon 35 ti ect without breaking the bank.

    Been staring at the olys fixed-lens rangefinders on the 'bay for like an entire year, haven't pulled the trigger yet tho. Come really close on the Olympus Wide-S (aka 'Wide Super') a couple of times as it was the fastest lens they ever put on one with a 35mm focal length, but the prices have been going up pretty steadily and I'm not made of money :(
