Hi everyone, I've had a couple comments already about practising handstands against the wall (which is another great tip!). I didn't mention that in this video because I already mentioned it in my original handstand tutorial (which can be found here: th-cam.com/video/Jh3pFPWulQA/w-d-xo.html&t). These are five EXTRA tips that will help you improve your handstand - so see it as a continuation of the original handstand tutorial! Thanks for watching!
I've only recently started doing calisthenics, but on the first day, I was able to accomplish handstands for about 3-5 seconds. Thank you for your fantastic advice; I hope you do more videos in the future.
Good tips man! The one when you talk about falling forward and getting the notion of the handstand kick up is also great with the wall as you have an end point (if you go controlled otherwise it won't help, sure 😅) Keep up the great work!
Thank you bro! Yeah you're right, that's a great tip! I didn't mention it in this video because I already mentioned it in my first handstand tutorial :D Thanks for watching!
I am still working on handstands, but being Retired Military I have always been trained to do handstands like single leg movements train when tired as well as fresh ( like a pistol squat if you only do it when fresh great, but your body needs different things to keep it challenging and changing Uneven ground, don’t try different times during your workout) Think about push ups ( do 1 arm/ diamond, pike keep your body moving and challenge with every day guessing) great video awesome info
I only recently got into calisthenics after a couple years of powerlifting, and my confidence was greatly misplaced. Closest I’ve gotten to a handstand was like a kind of half-handstand with my knees tucked but I could never straighten out my legs. This video helps a lot tho🤙🏽
Thank you that really helped me a lot but I have one question what happens if you fall forward is there a tip for that if not that is totally ok just asking thank you for the help
Just started trianing calisthenics (powerlifter for years) it's so much fun learning new skills and i didht realise how hard bodyweight exercises can be even with a high level of strength... when learning a new skill like the handstand can you trian them eveyday. before a actual schedule workout or will it interfere? Cheers dude
Yeah it's tough isn't it!? But well done for starting. I usually train calisthenics skills before weightlifting because it's best to train them when you're fresh. You don't have to train it every day. 3 days a week should be good enough. Hope that helps!
Amazing vid Ashton, I've applied all your tips and seen great progress. Fingers are essential! What I don't get is how to push my palms into the ground (as opposed to my fingers). I am now able to correct falling forwards but how do I correct falling back the way I came? Any thoughts?
Thanks JAK! It's difficult for me to give advice about something so specific online, but all I can describe it as is "rolling back on to the fleshy part of your palms" (where your hand connects to your wrist). So when you start to fall back, dig that part of your hand into the ground and it'll help to keep you balanced. Hope that helps!
Idk if this is not normal but Im kicking with my right foot not my left and my calves just hurts a lot when I stop but not hurt when I'm doing the handstand reps
For me the momentum is not a problem. Firstly you need to do it from the floor and then try throw yourself and learn how to stop falling and keep as much as you can the handstand. After 2 weeks I learnt it and I can do it properly. Nice tips though❤️
Hi Ashton, i got a question, i am doing gymnastics for 8 years now and i was told to go in Handstand without hands on the floor. So did i do it wrong all the time or is it just for calistenics? (By the way sorry for my bad English im German)

Keep practising my guy! Handstand kick ups are a great way to build the confidence to hold it without the wall. They're my favourite exercise for that. Hope that helps!
Hey Ally! I already mentioned doing handstands against the wall in my first handstand tutorial :D. These are five new tips that will help you perfect your handstand - the first handstand tutorial is for complete beginners, so I mentioned the wall tip in that because it really helps if you've never done the handstand before. many people start with their hands up and dash in cause they don't have the strength or they used to do it as kids so they have that habit
