@@Jonnycrows Glad that you know that’s what it is! Most people are surprised when I tell them it’s a pedal steel. 🤘😜 Glad I got to see them play this live back in 1982!! Kenny Greer killed it that night.
Agreed. I tried to find other songs of their I like but can’t find many. Lunatic fringe is awesome. They only have 1 song but they do it rrrrrrreal good
You wouldn't think you could even come close to the sound of the record doing this live, so check this out. That's as good a performance as you'll ever hear on something that was such a great studio masterpiece.
Thank you for sharing this incredible performance. I did not appreciate how great this song was, lyrically and musically, when it came out in the mid-eighties.
This song has helped me cope with forum trolls for at least the last 15 years. When I get angry because what somebody typed, I just play this song in my head and it all gets better.
See you later, and take that Middle Age! You are no match for the best of late 80s rock. The Vision Quest soundtrack is like an elixir of life; never fails to inspire.
Terrific band, and unbelievable how timeless and poignant the lyrics are. And can we take a sec to admire the fact the guitar solo is pedal steel? I mean, damn.
I remember jammin on this song when I was a teenager. Smokin lots of weed and listenin to Tom Sawyer, take a risin shotgun and listen to Ah Leah, Crazy Train, Stormtroopin, Stranglehold, Back in Black. Didn’t have a care in the world 🌬️
One of the most criminally underrated singers and band in music history. Can you say the Symphony Sessions? That music was sublime and I wonder if anyone has ever heard them.
You're not the only one who thought this was Floyd. It has a very Floyd feel and context. I've said many times, I would kill for a Pink Floyd live cover of this song. Can you even imagine??
Red Rider was my favorite band in the 80's. Ken Greer was a fantastic lead guitar player and added that trippy steel guitar in his solos. Band leader Tom Cochrane was a great songwriter and singer. Check out the albums "Neruda" and "Breaking Curfew" from 1983 and 1984 respectively. You won't be disappointed.
I've always loved this song. Great one hit wonder, pretty amazing they pulled it off live like this. First time I heard it as a kid was in Miami Vice when I was 10-12. Lotta great songs used on that show!
I think it's the fact we actually SEE them performing it. The studio version and the "Official" video version is just Tom "playing" and the rest of the band standing around. (I'm assuming the "Official" video version is just lip-synch to the studio version.) NOW we see what it's like for the whole band to perform it. I'm sure they're a little more pumped knowing it's being recorded in front of a live audience. I'm normally not a fan of live performances - there are always compromises to accommodate the venue - but this is nicely done.
Nothing goes away...good music always comes back around. More relevant today than it was when originally recorded in the 80's. If this doesn't apply to the Q-tip heads who attached the Capitol and call themselves "The Storm," I don't know what does.... "In the twilight's last gleaming, it's open season...you gotta blame someone for your own confusion...we're on guard this time...can you feel the thunder?" Absolutely prophetic.
If you want to go there, then pick up a history book... Marx himself was not only a Jew but he had a reputation for humanitarianism and tolerance. Not about Marxists. Could be about the Nazi's. But whether it's about the Q-tips or the Nazi's, all such groups "gotta blame someone for their own confusion." It applies to the haters of each generation.
C'mon, give respect to the person who decided to tell the world he'/she/it is a complete douchebag. I only wonder why he/she/it did this anonymously. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I am 64 years old I loved this song back then and I love this song today!
55 and same!
There is only one word to describe this performance, AMAZING!!!! 🤘🏻
I am 69 and this song still moves! Love it!!! So cool!!
Me too. 1955.
One of the most unique songs... with one of the most unique guitar solos ever!
Absolutely...killer stuff!!...
That’s a pedal Steele playing that solo. That’s why it sounds so unique.

This song is brilliant!
35 years old and always have been obsessed with the 80s.
One of the best performances of any song ever in history
You wouldn't think you could even come close to the sound of the record doing this live, so check this out. That's as good a performance as you'll ever hear on something that was such a great studio masterpiece.
...and this was 6 years after the release.
This version of the Red Rider band is my favourite version of the band. Excellent version of Lunatic Fringe!
Damn this sounds so good I almost didn't believe it was live at first! lol
I played this on a boombox coming out of our bus every cross country meet. Great memories!
Thank you for sharing this incredible performance. I did not appreciate how great this song was, lyrically and musically, when it came out in the mid-eighties.
Very nice live version!
I never realized that the siren sound with the doppler effect was the slide guitar player 🤯
awesome video, thank you for uploading this :)
Love this song…never gets old. What a great live performance. Love the band!
This has been one of my favorite songs ever since I heard it in the radio with my mom in a mercury cougar in 86-87! Tom is a beast!
Luv 'ed this song "back in the day" And still do ❤But today IT has Soooo much meaning and TRUTH!!!
This is one of those songs you never get tired of. Everytime bi hear it I like it just as much as the last time.
This song has helped me cope with forum trolls for at least the last 15 years. When I get angry because what somebody typed, I just play this song in my head and it all gets better.
Holy crap! They absolutely killed it!! This live version has some swing....love it!!
Only the good bands can perform live like this😎
Greetings gentlemen a moment Frozen in Time.
🇺🇸 🤠
How did I live 51 years on this earth and not know abut this tune? It's a banger.
Incredible band. The instrumentals are top shelf!!!
They are having a blast. This is so awesome! Classic Rock Jam son! Sound Floydish
I was 6 years old when this song came out, and I barely remember telling my dad that I like the sound of this song.. It just grabbed my attention..
Great song for the appropriate time 2020 to present.
Kudos to the sound engineer for getting all the effects correct. This is tough to pull of live.
Brilliant... the moment i heard this beauty..
For 40 years I did not know it was Tom Cochran singing this.
Me either! 😂
This is one of my favorite songs by Red Rider. I also love Light in the tunnel human race by them.
See you later, and take that Middle Age! You are no match for the best of late 80s rock. The Vision Quest soundtrack is like an elixir of life; never fails to inspire.
So appropriate to today, excellent guitar, great lyrics. In 2024 this takes on new meaning.
Yes it does!!!!
Terrific band, and unbelievable how timeless and poignant the lyrics are. And can we take a sec to admire the fact the guitar solo is pedal steel? I mean, damn.
Thanks for it. Love u ALL. Maxime
Something about Tom's voice echoing just feels and sounds so surreal. It feels like I'm passing through to another realm at an indescribable speed
Love this!!
Just found this song 🎵 Awesome band ❤
I’m in a good mood this new day // so far so good boys& girls. Live new & improved. Thanks. Dave MtL. Can.
Timeless classic!
Thanks for this post - killer..

Unfuckingreal. Some of the best music of the 80's. As far as live performanmces go- this is top shelf.
Fuck yeah 80's
I wanna go back.....Please???
Me too!!!
I've love this now and always will
One of the most criminally underrated singers and band in music history. Can you say the Symphony Sessions? That music was sublime and I wonder if anyone has ever heard them.
LOVE LOVE this song and the creators of it. Thank you!

1 of my all time favorite songs growing up. Loooove this 🎵 song. The beat is banging!!❤🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Classic I love this Greatest rock songs of all time in my school of rock ✌️
Wow. The memories
This song is so spiritual for me personally! I love this song! It hits every nerve in my being!!
Prof of Rock brought me here! He highlighted this song earlier today as one that should have charted much higher in the US than it did
A lot going on here!! Good shit!!!!
Life is a highway, keep riding on and on. (Feel the resistance...)
I wouldn't expect any less than this.... SIMPLY BADASS ALL OF THEM
80's 🔥
Love that slide guitar solo
Yes, I went 25 years wondering why Pink Floyd didn’t get more credit for this masterpiece 😮 🐷🎸🫣🤦♂️
You're not the only one who thought this was Floyd. It has a very Floyd feel and context. I've said many times, I would kill for a Pink Floyd live cover of this song. Can you even imagine??
The best Canadian music
om awesome thank you

A fantastic dark gem of a jam with a timeless truth to the meaning
Fort Frances High School April 1981. Fantastic!
I love this song and the whole album Napoleon sheds his skin and cowboys in Hong kong. Gqreat fantastic
adding the drum beats working the strings I enjoy that. cool to make the sounds.
Just a memory a guy I worked with died suddenly the last song before he died was lunatic fringe and he loved every lyric 🌄
HELL YEA....🇺🇲🔥
I remember the actual MTV video. I was 15 years old. This was an excellent performance.
I've always loved this song. Great one hit wonder, pretty amazing they pulled it off live like this. First time I heard it as a kid was in Miami Vice when I was 10-12. Lotta great songs used on that show!
Lunatic Fringe is no longer hiding we are back baby.
Wow- the live versions of this and white hot seem much better to me than the studio versions!

This song was so far ahead of today;s News we are Ready 1 Spark and its on!
Just listened to studio version. Ass kicker. Pedal steel slide lead outstanding.
working the strings sounds wow
A plausible background song for the ongoing Red Redemption comes strong to mind.
Wow. I'm a guitar player and just now found out the lead was on a pedal steel guitar.
I need to get out more often.
Insane!
This version ROCKS!
Appropriate song for 2020 to present
The first time i heard Lunatic Fringe it was on Miami Vice…i was stunned.
Damn that was good
That's one bad a$$ song right there man.
Excellent!!
Nailed it.
We are out there

Incorrect. It's about the rising of the anti-semitic, marxist globalists coming to run your life.
If you want to go there, then pick up a history book... Marx himself was not only a Jew but he had a reputation for humanitarianism and tolerance. Not about Marxists. Could be about the Nazi's. That is a whole lot of LOST in one paragraph. We will let you stay there because there is no coming back from where you are.
@@johnwebb3012 Globalists IS an anti-semitic term. You sound confused.
Absolutely relevant as a pro-democracy battle anthem!
Let’s not forget Tom C scored another hit with life is a highway from his solo work
You just connected a lot for me. Thanks!
I bet it sounded so awesome there! 👌
🤘🏼🙃
To the one person who disliked this video- …how dare you?!
C'mon, give respect to the person who decided to tell the world he'/she/it is a complete douchebag. I only wonder why he/she/it did this anonymously. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Drums sound incredible - great mix.
Turn it up 😊
When you finally get that boat you needed and it doesnt have a fire extinguisher. 🥵
OMG Pricelesa
I just heard that song for the first time and damn it sounds like Pink Floyd at her best. I can't believe that I've never heard this before.
Hope that "her" was a mistake. If not, Google is free! 🤭
We're on guard this time (on guard this time)
Against your final solution
why was the 7 and a half minute version of boy inside the man from this show taken off?? I freaking liked it!!
th-cam.com/video/a30Zo_-tZZc/w-d-xo.html
Omg this song. So bad boy stuff. Why people listen to rock. Feels dangerous. ❤
