@@anibalvaldebenito8810 i cba to type a whole character analysis but imho jin's writing is fantastic. in my eyes, jin's experience is a tale on what human ambition is capable of doing, and what consequences it can have. amalthus's conquest for complete control, and his subsequent destruction of torna due to their different outlooks on life and how blades/titans should be treated - he, as a survivor, embodies that mindset that torna had. the mindset that blades and humans should be treated equally - however, due to his trauma in the death of lora, and the fact that he subsequently lost everything - as malos stated, "the only thing he hadn't lost was his life, because he couldn't... words can be a curse.", this tornan mindset of "everyone should be equal, blades and humans" was translated into "everyone should be equal... and therefore, dead". jin is a tragic representation of 'becoming what you sought to destroy'. he was so outraged by amalthus's slaughter of his own people, that his idea for revenge was to slaughter everyone else - after all, since amalthus IS the praetor, technically all of alrest are his people. this corruption - the corruption of his mindset, and the alternative interpretation of equality in torna's eyes, is represented by his red core crystal. the fact that it's the same shape, but a different colour, shows how he still believes in that old tornan mindset - but it's been so corrupted and changed by his traumatic experiences that while it's under the same basis, it's unrecognizable from before. i could type more abt how he develops as a character and how he learns to accept that humanity is salvageable, but i lowkey dont want to. but overall, i just think that he's a tragic character with understandable yet unjustifiable mindsets, and it's impressive to make the death of a mass murderer be pitiable. he's a victim of his circumstance - and his death hit hard.
Garbulio stays underrated, he's got the most complicated arch of anyone in the game. First his mom dies, then because he wants to ask the architect why it had to happen so he lives his entire life for the church, even climbs up the world tree but believes he's not worthy, then he constantly gets reminded that humans are bad people (the.guy he helped that then went on to rob that woman) and he hates the world even more, which causes Malos to become selfhating as well when he awakens him and makes Garbulio think that the architect wants to kill all humankind bc malos was sent by the architect so he figures malos is right. Then later on, he tries to save the world by helping Rex but realizes Malos wants to kill the architect so now he needs to stop him again, and since Rex doesnt wanna kill Malos he goes crazy and figures that Malos was right, and that the reason he can cleanse core crystal and consume them is for the same reason Malos thinks he can destroy the world (bc if it came from the aegis, that means the architect mustve sent it), which is to exterminate all life, like malos said. All the while he doesn't realize that the Architect doesnt even care because to him everything is "fate", meaning that Garbulio's thousands of attempts to appease him wouldve never worked anyways. And still, when he finally dies, the architect finally feels bad for him and sends the spirit of his mother to take him to the... afterlife? Obv left a little ambiguous but it doesnt matter anyways what happens to him afterwards, its about the fact that the architect finally did feel bad for him and its so perfectly timed with the music aaaaaa Goated character writing and goated video game
EXACTLY, Amalthus is really underrated but I think he's the best villain in the franchise, so many layers. He did nothing wrong, heck he was trying to stop Malos from climbing the World Tree.
@@jarrav8186 Yeah you're right, but I mean in that particular instance he was trying to stop Torna from doing the same thing but Rex was like nah man you're evil 😂
I know people like to talk bad about Xenoblade 2's plot but honestly a lot of the moments and themes in the final chapter, *especially this one*, just hit so hard. Rex's whole ibelief about how even though bad people exist, people are still worth being with and the world is worth living in clashes so well against the villains' ideology that, no, people are evil, and it really just resonates with me a lot. That talk he has with Zeke I think about how he loves this world and life is about taking the good things with the bad has honestly become one of my favorite parts of the game.
@@Lumario23 That's fair. For me the whole themes surrounding the treatment of Blades in different societies and how Torna wants to "free" them because Jin feels they aren't viewed as equals anymore, unlike 500 years ago, are really interesting. In general the writing surrounding Blades is really good imo, like the different ways the plot uses their memory loss and seeing how characters like Jin and Brighid, for example, view that fate. I like Xenoblade 1's plot a lot, dont' get me wrong, but I just found that 2 went over a lot of really good themes that I found a lot deeper than the first game. The plot feels like it's progressed by its characters as opposed to the first game where it kinda felt like everyone except Shulk was just on for the ride.
Honestly anyone who trashes on Xenoblade 2’s plot is just wrong. The active story of 1 and 2 are genuinely peak fiction, and most people complaining seem to confuse something having a slow start as being badly written, or something having weird comedy as it being a not serious plot for fun. What’s better is that any boring moments from 1 and 2 become so much more interesting in retrospect or replay given info you learn later on in the game, like how chapter 2 has a metric ton of foreshadowing for Mythra, Nia, Blade Bots, war, Torna, and even Indol, but isn’t seen in that light on a first playthrough. Very few stories in any genre manage to do this effectively, and it elevates the story a ton more than many realize
Mikhail: 500 years later and still living with his dad. [Edit] I'd just like to mention Nia going in Driver-mode to fight Jin, but against Amalthus decides to go Torna-style and completely ignore both Dromarch and Rex.
I love how all the villians in Xemoblade aren't just one-dimensional bad guys. They all have went through shit in their past and have resons for being the person they are now and doing the obviously bad things they did. It makes them feel like real persons, being neither really good nor truly bad.
Mumkhar? Yumea? Lorithia? Bana? Dughall? Muimui? Malos, Zanza and the Face Units if you wanna count them. Dickson is never explained. Alvis, Meyneth, Morag, Zeke and Vanea aren't villains so they don't count. Egil, Tyrea, Amalthus, Mikhail and Jin are pretty good though.
@@Ian-oy3cv Ok maybe not ALL went through shit, that's not always the reason I agree. Still also those you mentioned aren't just evil for the sake of being evil. They all had reasons behind their actions to some degree. Malos basically IS Amalthus, so that's the simplest one. Zanza had the fear of being forgotten amd perishing. Mumkhar was always envious of Dunban and power hungry. Yumea was a traditional elitist high hentia, who couldn't accept the Homs cross breeding. Basically a person corrupted by a racist society, just like it can happen IRL. Bana, Dughall and Muimui have all been corrupted by Greed. Dickson loved fighting and thus gladly accepted the world Zanza gave him. Lorithia was promised immortality by Zanza. So I guess what I wanted to say is none of them are just "pure evil" or born evil. So basically that's what I wanted to say.

At around 8:01 not too many people seem to notice Amalthus suffocates that baby... 1) Damn that's dark 2) I feel like this implies that whether his mother pushed him off that cliff to save him from the bandits or kill him so he didn't have to live in their f**ked up world, he seems to see it as the latter.

As sad as I am with Xenoblade ending, I am equally excited for a new adventure.

I'm sad it's almost over but I'm looking forward your Dragon Quest XI playthrough after that
Then you can go ahead and play the "torna, the golden country" dlc
I await the day that Flyann calls Amalthus by his actual name by accident
Now every time I see or hear Amalthus, my brain will default it to Garbulio, but I’m not complaining.
