I think the best single word to describe Hugo is "selfless". He actively wants to put others before himself. He does the spoiler thing without even a moment's hesitation. He CONSTANTLY downplays himself and props up those around him. A selfless man through and through.
There was another moment foreshadowing his death from the base game when Brigid is talking about her journal she talks about the final fight and how she found it odd that she didn’t write anything about it exclaiming something must of happened during that time
5:46 Well to be fair, Rex almost let Vandham's death happen in vain. Hugo singlehandedly saved not only Adam, but by extention Rex, and the rest of the world 500 years in the future. Good video
Something else that makes Hugo stand out is that he was never mentioned at all in the main game. He was basically the one party member that players would have no prior knowledge or attachment to when Torna came out (even if he might as well be a clone of Niall in both appearance and personality).
Mandatory spoiler warning, even though it is addressed in the video I feel like Hugo's abrupt death is what made it really impactful, I expected Brighid and Aegeon to reflect on their journey too, so the fact that they didn't even get to say farewell to their driver, and knowing that they won't even keep any vivid memory of him is so heartbreaking and ultimately something that really adds to the experience of playing Torna
I actually disagree Hugo might've gone down unexpectedly but he did get a heroic moment had he not jumped in front of Addam at the last second, Addam likely would've died too. He made a heroic sacrifice which ultimately contributed to the world being saved by Rex 500 years later
Literally the only thing that got me hooked onto, Morag and Hugo at first were. *Holy fuck they're scottish* and Yeah eventually I got to see deeper into their characters, and grew to love them more, but the main appeal of Morag and Hugo to me is still Scottish waifu and Husbando
I se your points and agree. Hugo is best boy. I cried a lot during the ending. The thing with Mythra was sad. But then there was the thing with Hugo and Milton, and I love Hugo so I was mega sad. I saw the ending in a lets play a few years ago and still cried my eyes out when I played it myself. I also just really loved playing as Hugo, since I was really bad at using Addam and just using Hugo to face tank everything was a hell of a lot easier than playing as Loras group. Because I suck at the game. I also already loved Niall in the base game, because he is cute and very adorable. And he's Scottish. Scottish and Welsh are my favorite accents now. But yes, Hugo is best boy and he deserves a fan club. He is so cute and I just love hearing the banter between him and Addam where Hugo tries to deny that he is still sacred of bugs. Or some kind of creature. That skit was great. Hugo is great. Torna is sad.
I was crying from pretty much the minute the cutscene after beating Malos started playing, but I will legitimately never forget how as soon as I saw Hugo in Addam's arms, an actual big, single tear fell down my cheek like I was also a scripted cutscene.
what I liked in Torna is that I thought Lora or Addam was gonna die. I didn't see a single death flag for Hugo, but I felt a constant source of "someone's gonna die." Then the ending.
Wait... Jin is the official protagonist of Torna? I had always assumed it was Lora. I kn0ow the story explores Jin's past more but it felt like I was playing Lora's story
Ever just spend 2 weeks on a video, proof watch it 3 times to make sure everything is in order, upload it and then instantly see a spelling mistake in your subtitles precisely 1:00 into the video? Yea me neither
also i'm just going say that I didn't get one of my points across that well when comparing Hugo to the other tanks in the series. I was trying to say that compared to them, Hugo can seem basic at times
I haven't played Torna in a while-- namely cause after Etika passed it hurt way too much to ever look at the game again. Hugo is hands down my favorite character, maybe not in the entire series-- that goes to HB because I saw a funny image of him dressed in a Bunny Girl suit, but Hugo's hella up there. What really solidified how great he was to me was how they took the "Don't forget me" meme line, and turned into something so much more meaningful. Which made the line getting removed from the game a whee bit more annoying in retrospect. "Don't forget me"'s growth from Funny Meme line, to funnier meme line; because only those who know about it could relish in the irony it was removed, to funny meme line which returned when you were playing through Torna for the first time ever-- and then... he was dead. Suddenly this meme line stopped making me laugh and I just wanted to cry. The meme went from funny, to heartbreaking, all because it was about this lovable (and terrifying) emperor who was just a good homie.
I remember my stream chat memed Hugo and Milton the whole game, making them my favorite characters. And then the ending happened...
That is straight up phycological torment please sue
I loved Hugo and Milton, especially Miltons constant attacks on Mythra

I totally agree. There’s nothing more selfless than sacrificing ones own life to save another’s, as Hugo did for Addam.
@@turbo__unicorn3370 …I said “does the spoiler thing” for a reason, my gamer.

Oh shoot yea that part killed me when I did a play through going in order of the timeline actual tragedy

Hugo would have been happy to know that, centuries later, the nobility he held inside would continue to thrive.

I have walked away from this video with a newfound appreciation for Hugo, and left you a well deserved sub on my way out :D
How have I never heard that line between with Haze till now… Hugo is just a really good bro that loving being outside.
If you're playing Torna, you've probably played the entirety of xc2 anyways so you're just used to tuning out the amount of dialogue

I only wish Aegaeon was scottish to hear him scream FOR THE GLORY OF MOR ARDAIN in a the accent

Hugo was my favorite when I played Torna and I literally love him so much ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you !! I love him and he is baby and beautiful ! What a splendid soul, yeah?
The main thing I love about the Torna team is that all three of the party members takes aspects from Rex’s team.
Great video my dude your channel is underrated af
you aren't alone,i love him too.
You sure got me chuckling over that REYNforcing joke, lol
some how
Our boy Hugo pretty muched saved the world as a whole. No Addam, no sealed Mythra, no aegis equipped Rex, no world saving
At the beginning of Torna: So this is the ancestor of Mòrag and Niall?
At the end of Torna: Oh...
What Rex said to Nia carries a whole new context when you realize he meant every word especially going by XC3
what I liked in Torna is that I thought Lora or Addam was gonna die.
I didn't see a single death flag for Hugo, but I felt a constant source of "someone's gonna die."
Then the ending.
saaame
Sea god's Tidal wave or was it Blade either way fun line I can not wait to play Xenoblade 3 2 days away from now if that
Having just finished Torna I nearly cried when he shirked Addam. He’s best boy
Wait... Jin is the official protagonist of Torna? I had always assumed it was Lora. I kn0ow the story explores Jin's past more but it felt like I was playing Lora's story
I'm not crying, you are

Xenoblade X is criminally underrated.
