    What a Journey is been! Xenoblade 2 has been a fantastic game beginning to end, I'm glad I was able to share it with you guys.
    While I have your attention I figured I could answer some Questions here before they inevitably show up..
    Q: Did you know that the XC1 and XC2 endings occur around the same time? A: At the time I didn't realize it was Shulk speaking through the rift in Klaus, honestly I thought it was Klaus talking since they're voiced by the same VA LOL. Didn't piece it together immediately but its a cool link between the two games.
    Q: Do you know who Ontos is? A: Ended up figuring out it was Alvis, another cool link to the other game
    Q: Do you prefer XC1 or XC2? A: After playing through them both honestly... with gacha and the battle mechanics XC2 takes the cake for me. Although XC1 still holds a special place in my heart!
    Q: Is this the end of Xenoblade 2 content? A: I actually got plenty planned! We're currently going through the flylocke, which is a XC2 Challenge run fashioned in the manner of a Pokemon Nuzlocke. You can catch these streams at twitch.tv/flyann
    Anyways thank you guys again. Hope you enjoyed the ending, until next time!

    I feel like this is a problem a lot of people have with the ending, and I wanted to share this. "Pyra/Mythra's "sacrifice" is not about making a noble sacrifice to save the world, it's about Rex learning that he can't do everything himself. It's the crux of his character arc. Throughout the whole story, Rex makes rash and often foolish decisions because he can't bear the idea of standing idly by while something terrible happens. He wastes Vandham's sacrifice because he can't bring himself to give up and run away. The thought that he's actually powerless and unable to protect others torments him and almost makes him give up his quest at the beginning of Chapter 7. Addam chastises him for not accepting his own limitations and greedily desiring to protect everyone. Even in that last scene, Zeke and Azura have to tell Rex that he needs to let it go, and let Pyra/Mythra/Pneuma do what she needs to do. The point of the scene is that Rex finally acknowledges that there are some things he can't handle personally. He let's Pyra/Mythra/Pneuma act alone; he acknowledges that there is nothing he can do to help in that situation. If Pyra and Mythra didn't come out alright, it would actually undermine the scene in my opinion, as it would mean that by letting go, Rex actually did fail in his goal to protect them and would cast doubt on whether he did the right thing.
    Furthermore, it would have undermined Pyra/Mythra's own character arc. She had longed for oblivion, feeling that she was not worthy of life. Her growth is in the acknowledgement that her power doesn't define her and in finding the resolve to live and find a place she can belong in the world. Were she to die, either completely or just the specific personalities she has developed, would be to make her character's development futile.
    Accross the board, I don't think a bittersweet ending is appropriate for the game. The major theme of the story is survival. Klaus finding a way to bring a dead world back to life, Rex looking for a way to live when the land itself is aging, both Aegises and the members of Torna looking for a purpose to an unending life. Throughout the game, nihilism is the enemy, whether in Amalthus, Malos, or even Rex and Pyra. Consequently, survival of our heroes, in every sense, is the only appropriate outcome."
    Congratulations, Flyann. Only you could edit a 100 hour JRPG to be constantly entertaining.

    • @kokiriguy2123
      @kokiriguy2123 4 ปีที่แล้ว +72

      That's not really how I see it. I don't think this is the crux of his character arc, it can only be refrenced to events but that barely have any link to his growth. I think his character arc is done by the time he fights and beats Malos, with its crux being at the end of chapter 7. He's already moved on from his black and white view of the world, he learned to understand his enemies, and moves on from his "self-centered" goal as he finds his own war by living for Pyra/Mythra, as well as his answer regarding mankind. To me, this scene is like a final test for Rex, to see if he can live up himself to his own beliefs and values. By beating Malos, he proved that the world can change, and validated his answer. As he tells Malos, mankind has to let go, move on, move foward, to change. That's exactly what Jin and Amalthus couldn't do, Jin couldn't move on from Lora's death and fell into despair, and so did Amalthus when he lost his mother. So this scene is testing Rex on that very idea, to see wether or not he can live up to his own answer; a final check to see if humanity will manage. He has to let go of Pyra/Mythra, without falling to despair like Jin and Amalthus, and move on, move foward. He almost gives in to despair, but with the support of his friends, he accepts her decision, lets her go, and moves on. And like you explained with your point of view, he ends up being rewarded for it.

      I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this "theory" yet (quotes because it makes too much sense lol)
      Its heavily implied that Pyra and Mythra lose their memories when she has to return to her crystal. The game has set up this rule for blades the whole time, and even goes out of the way to have Pyra out of her crystal at the start of the game to line up with this rule. It's safe to say that when she does return to a crystal, she will lose her memories.
      Additionally, it makes the name of the final chapter make so much sense as Rex and Pyra have a new meeting in the last scene rather than a reunion.
      This also explains the scene a bit better as people think the unvoiced part is her introducing herself, which prompts rex to look downwards in a sad way realizing what happened.
      Its her sacrifice, so I prefer this explanation as its more central to her and not about Rex's character. I think it holds better.

    No one else is saying it so ima say that Rex’s tether hook is such a powerful image in the last scene. The one art that’s been around since the beginning, has never failed him in any of the cutscenes, but in that last one it just isn’t enough. I’m convinced this is one of the best, if not the best JRPG story in years, and a masterpiece game as a whole. Thanks so much for playing all the way through this game
    Edit: I know some people probably don’t actually know what happens at the end, so all I’ve got to say is give the last credits song, One Last You, a good listen and the ending makes much more sense (and makes it sadder too)

    Just wanted to point out that pyra and mythra being split actually makes sense. As klaus said in the beginning of ch10, blades keep some evolutional data and are changed accordingly when they are re-awakened, as well as being influenced by their new driver.
    When mythra awakened in ch3, she and pyra were the same person, just different appearances. This mythra is the one that was awakened by adam in torna. But then throughout the entire game the difference between both is clearly developed, both for rex and them.
    So when rex reawakens them, the fact that he sees them as separate beings coupled to the fact that they were developed to be different people, made them be split.

    • @SilverSalamence
      @SilverSalamence 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Im going to respectfully disagree.
      Pyra and Mythra were always different people. Pyra was split from Mythra back in Torna. She was already her own person then. This is stated in Mythra's introduction scene after she wakes up ( something like 'she is an alternate self that I created'). Throughout the game they consistently have their own personalities and likes/dislikes. Rex acknowledging them as different people helps them accept themselves, but this doesnt 'split' them any more than it 'splits' real life plural folks. They were already different people in there. But it could very well have helped them stabilize- a thing that does feature in the more effective therapy for folks with did and osdd. This is disputed by the fact that they *already* seem to have good stability in terms of communication, switching, and sense of self(stability in other types of mental health, on the other hand...).
      Rex acknowledging them as separate people was and is VERY good, but it didn't make them become more real people. It just probably improved their mental health a little by being acknowledged each as people and engaging with others as each themselves.
      AS someone with a dissociative disorder, the splitting them into different bodies at the end is a bit of a pet peeve of mine for plural characters. Not only would neither of them probably WANT to stop being plural considering how comfortable they are with eachother and switching and how long they have been together and how little distress they seem to have about the other's existence, but it would likely be incredibly upsetting and lonely for them to do so.
      In addition to the fact that the reason they split in the first place was because Mythra couldnt deal with the trauma of Torna- which she STILL hasnt really processed. Thats just adding up to another mental health crisis.
      I love this game and love the ending. .....Except for that last 30 seconds or so. They ALMOST had it. Its not just an annoying cop out on a otherwise close to perfect example of a realistically plural character(even Pneuma is fine, shes just the power of cofronting).
      Its straight up going to end badly. They would be *miserable* like that. I know I sure would be.
      Honestly I just pretend they came back as Pneuma and said something that assured us they were both in there still(a 'we' statement would be good). Maybe shifted down and switched between them to engage with people if they didnt want to have words happen. That would have been perfect and given them a vanishingly rare 9.5/10 for plural rep. As it is, they have a 8.5/10 which is the best ive seen out of any mainstream-ish production.

    • @faithjolley6034
      @faithjolley6034 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SilverSalamence I can totally see where you're coming from, but being split from Pyra would mean that Mythra now has to confront that trauma, she can't hide behind Pyra anymore, and even though Pyra is a person now, she was created as a coping mechanism for trauma, so I feel like if nothing changed, Mythra wouldn't have a reason to change either? She can have Pyra take care of everything she doesn't want to.

    • @SilverSalamence
      @SilverSalamence 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@faithjolley6034 By having Mythra confront that trauma alone like that again though when she has such strong dissociative tendencies (removing Pyra so she cant '''hide behind''' her) will very likely just make her make another alter. This is the way her brain learned to cope with stress by reflex- dissociating to such a degree. The reason Pyra is there hasnt gone away, Mythra dissociative tendencies havent disappeared- and Pyra has NEVER existed as a single person, so shes probably even more worse off.
      You dont take away the coping mechanism before you make sure the new one is in place and can actually replace it properly. This AT BEST creates a lot of unneeded distress and a person who is very nonfunctioning until the new coping mechanism(s) can compensate at the level the old one did.
      At worst, it kills people.
      They need to process what happened in Torna, deal with their guilt and grief, and work towards existing in a way that the trauma doesnt prohibit them from living. I think that separating them is actively removing their One coping mechanism that works to that extent and massively altering their entire cognitive structure in a way that will further mess them up and totally counterproductive to their healing.
      Enjoy the physical splitting- im not saying you cant. For people who are not plural/dont have a dissociative disorder im sure it does sound like a nice happy ending that isnt even a little offensive and would totally work.
      Im just saying if we want to inject some This Is How Things Work In Real Life into it- it causes far FAR more problems than it seems to solve.

    This is one of those rare moments where I somehow stumble upon a channel that, despite being comparatively small in size, still makes content as entertaining and funny and quality as anyone with larger sub count. Only about 15 minutes in so far, and I can already say with absolute certainty that you're a fantastic creator. I almost never find myself laughing out loud anymore, yet even the smallest of your quips and dumb jokes have had me laughing super hard (10:57 especially was so good oh my god).
    That's the end of the comment, just wanted to give you some very VERY deserved praise. Keep it up, I can't wait to watch more from you! Already watched the first Flylocke video and now I'm set on watching through your older content now.

    24:54 Klaus didn’t phrase that very clearly. What he did was reach into the party’s hearts and pulled out the hidden fears, angers, and insecurities that they tried to ignore and refused to act on. By “alternate possibilities,” he means the party could just as easily have been like that in reality, in a world where Niall and thousands of Ardainians died because Mòrag wasn’t there to save them.

Xenoblade has been part of my life for 10 years now and it only gets more meaningful to me with each time I re experience it. What an absolute journey, I started watching Flyann when a friend mentioned his second video on Xenoblade 2 to me, at the time, not only had I just beaten XC1, but subsequently beat XC2, and was ready for anything else I could get of the series. So I checked out Flyann, watched his DE play through and then checked out his XC2 play through and have kept up to date since. Honestly Xenoblade holds a special place in my heart, and each of your videos entertained me each time I watched them, and reminded me how bad at Video Games I am (you made the Final Boss look like a joke, you didn't even see his final Attack, "Prometheus" which is straight up a spirit bomb that nukes the party, that I had to cheese with Chain Attack I-frames).
    Overall a great entertainer you are. 10/10 playthrough
    Also as a side note, I never mentioned this in any other comment, but I am among an unlucky few, whose first rare blade was Miss Chungus. I took her off me team so nobody would see her when they walked in the room.

      One thing i saw many players be affraid off is Pyra and Mythra not having their memories when they reawaken...
      They seem to miss the part where the Aegis is the final destination for the information from the other cores, and the only reason a cores memory is wiped clean is to send that information to the Aegis... So since the information in Pyra and Mythras crystal never goes anywhere, it would make no sense for their memories to be gone too
