1) I LOVE the after laughter vinyl in the background. 2) I think deckled edges give books more character. Like the texture really jumps out.
I've actually never had a book with deckled edges until I got my copy of Furyborn a few weeks ago. I do love them, even though it's sometimes hard to turn a page without possibly turning several pages due to the length difference.

I once got a book with deckled edges (The Demigod Diaries), and honestly, it worked great for the book's theme/aesthetic (because it was like a diary).

I've just finished the third Red Queen book and I completely understand what you mean... It is slower than the others (especially in the middle) but STICK TO IT - it gets better!
