You should totally check out the Stalking Jack the Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalco. Yes, there is murder and mystery involved but I classify it as a Gothic Novel (if I remember correctly, that is its official classification) and it's not a normal murder mystery if that makes sense. Anyway...it was amazing and I highly recommend it!

hearing you talk about The Cheerleaders I'm like I don't remember this book at all but I think I listened to it. Confirmed on Libby I did in fact which makes me think I must not have liked it that much because it wasn't memorable. After reading several reviews I'm kinda remembering it but still can't remember the end. Maybe I need to revisit. I loved Little Monsters by Kara Thomas the twists and turns were so good. I also read The Darkest Corners by Kara Thomas and that one was really good I would say equal to little monsters for me so maybe read that one. Also I know I'm commenting on an old video but I just discovered your channel.

This is such an interesting idea and challenge. It can be hard sometimes to separate someone else's opinion on - in this case a book. For example, I had watched an older video by Kat from paperbackdreams and her brief thoughts on a YA book called What If It's Us, which she DNF'd. I think I did a good job of not letting her thoughts influence me, but in the end I too DNF'd the book. I'm not sure how far into the book Kat had made it, but I got halfway through before I had to stop.

I loved Cheerleaders. It was admittedly a guilty pleasure-type love, but I thought it was good! I picked up the chapter sampler at B&N because it looked bad and that made me curious (idk why 😂) and then I read it in 20 minutes and was hooked. When it came out, I had it fully read within 24 hours of swiping my card lol. Honestly it wasn't a great book, but I had just read Children of Blood and Bone so the quick, light read was nice (especially because I hate contemporary romance and that is usually the go-to for light. Soooo a light thriller was nice haha).

I also listened to the audiobook The Price Guide to the Occult and I wanted to like it much more than I actually did!

Lol totally get what you mean about Price Guide to the occult. Don't remember a single character but I DID like the overall feel of the book

    This was interesting.
And yes, I've read a book that's going to end up on my worst of the year (because it's the worst book I've ever read, and that's saying something looking back at my reactions to Caraval two years ago). That book is The Ritual by Adam Nevill. It felt like two books in one, but still, the characters were not very great and the writing devices used were things the author obviously didn't have a skill or talent for using (the entire writing style didn't work and this killed the atmosphere in the book), which made this horror boring and sleep-inducing instead of tense.

I always wanted to do something like that! I’m sorry you didn’t like any of them though! Also I already have 4 books on my Worst Books of 2019 sadly.

So far I’ve liked the books I’ve read for 2019. And if you want to read more murder mystery, I would suggest the Cormoran Strike novels that J.K. Rowling has written under the name Robert Galbraith.

I hate when books go slow an then full speed ahead out of no where lol and I believe that author wrote one of my favorite books 🥴🤣. Good thing you didn’t have the physical copy of any of these lol

Oooooh boy, I found my most hated book of all time this year. It’s was a backlist title that had been sitting on my shelves for years. ‘The Taker’ by Alma Katsu. I have a strict rule with myself that I will not rate a book I’ve DNFed and so I hate read that bad boy because it deserved my one star.

I think that The Favorite Sister will be on my worst books I read in 2019 list.
