@@TheGuitologist Try also the Charlotte, NC "Spring in the Carolinas " event at the Sheraton Charlotte Airport Hotel Mar 26-28. www.cc-awa.club has info. They dont publicize it much though, its a smaller show, outdoor flea market, but the auctions can be huge there.
As a vintage stereo/tube afficionado and Ham Radio licensee/operator since 1976, the coolness factor of this video is 'off the charts'. But seeing the back cover of Rush's 2112 come into view at 46:45 just takes it to another level!
I was there, Terry, but I must have just missed you...What a great tour of the place, too...I also met your friend (Timmy73) at 1:04:11...It is kids like him that are the future of this electronics hobby! The turnout was greater this year than last year and I've attended the Farmington event the last few years...Here's hoping the next one, whenever that is, is just as good and keep on posting these great videos!
Great video Terry and I thought I saw your double @ 1:23 Good to see some youngsters taking an interest and Marcia is just fabulous Cheers from Australia
(Billy from Lyrones Instruments in Battle Creek here) I would've loved to film for you at this event. Wow LOVE the Kenwood w/blue lighting! I kept my eye out for Telefunken's with the cool seafoam strobe tuner. I just don't see them anymore.
We didn't make the trip from Flint area because of icy roads, but gosh, I wish we could have been there! Definitely, we will be going to the July Extravaganza in Livonia. Love that burnt dust on tubes smell, too. Thanks for posting.
Around the Toronto area where I live Ham fests used to be abundant and sold lots of vintage audio gear as well. But the collectors have snapped most of it up and there's not much vintage audio to be found at ham fests anymore in the GTA. I've given up on them for that reason.
Nice bit of gear in the background at 3:58. Not exactly vintage compared to the items on the table in front of it. I recognized the R-390 before the close up of it. I got a laugh from the person saying "It's really light". :) I like the sign at 17:32. It is so true. I would have been tempted by the wooden plaque at 39:30 or the HP-85 at 49:20.
When I was a kid, I would stay with my grandpa over the summer. When he wanted to keep me busy, he would give me piles of vintage radios to take apart. The radios looked mint, and most of them worked fine. I took apart HUNDREDS of them. I wish I knew then, what I know now.
That HP-85 Laboratory Computer is a good work horse when paired with interface cards to connect it to the outside world. Back in the mid 1980's our company used one to operate the PCB Test Station for the multiple product lines produced. The different profiles were stored on the removeable tape drive and the test results could be printed out on the included 3.5 inch thermal printer. It was a 32K machine programmed in Basic, but did the job for us up into the early 2000's.
This was a really great show. I'd love to have that tape echo and the price looked right! Tube fired vintage tape echos are worth a small fortune these days!
42:56 Terry to bad you should grab that incredible vintage Jensen speaker and btw i know a lot about vintage guitar echo’s, so that Echolette at the end is a Germany build NG51.. it’s a true fair price on that. Clean it up and you catch 4 times this price!!!!oh men i wish i was there to grab.🥺. Cheers mate🍷
I just found that exact B&K at our local commission sales place and picked it up for 5.00 cleaned it up and it works like a charm. Didn’t need it but couldn’t turn it down for 5
48:43 -45 .. is that a Kalamzoo bass 30 w/o its combo box?!? if you can find that vendor, i NEED their info!!! rare and the best rhythm guitar amp ever.
Great vid. About 40 years ago companies exported electronics jobs from the US to Asia. Now companies like Apple, John Deer are deliberately electronically locking equipment so it cannot be repaired, again they now send items to Asia for repair. That's why we only see old guys doing repairs these days. If you want to support local repair shops and allow youngsters to learn how to repair things upport the legislation on the "righ to repair" your own equipment in your state. Currently legislation in Maine is being stifled by big corps, show up give your support or write, e-mail your state representatives.
Terry, another great Expo video. I do find hope yet for our youth as evidenced by Timmy73 (channel ends in UC8DxtTIDprEELMsxa0LV3zA) and that young fellow at the end (the one with the box 'o stuff, not the one with the hat). I hope that was you offering to collab with him to get that prototype up and running after all these years. He sure seems to value the art of the hobby and definitely his great great grandfather. I bet that would be something he would be forever grateful for. You ROCK! (to some Alice Cooper ;) ) Steer him straight Marcia!!
BTW, Most of these sellers will be back at the SUMMER VEE July 18-19 2020. So if you see something here you want, it might not have sold and will be back at that show, which is even bigger show.
Sadly, due to Covid 19, the summer VEE was canceled. The winter VEE may happen but not looking good right now in October, so probably will return July 2021 in the new larger location. Watch www.thevee.org for updates, and the Michigan Antique Radio Club Facebook page as well. Need more info about this event, email me Mark at moppat at comcast dot net
I have to get up there and go to one of these! What did that guy have on that Pioneer QX949?! I sold one of those back in the 90's for next to nothing. Another one of my life's mistakes.
Every part of vintage technology I've been involved in, mechanical, electrical or electronic there aren't many young people who are interested in carrying the torch into the future.
OMG Terry there 2 of those RCA pa tube amps there - back to back about 20 feet apart! Trick would be to drag the lower priced one over to the higher - and then start working the high guy, to get him lower. Guarantee, the low guy would drop his price, too, before you wewre done . Often thought mikes or amps or spkr drivers would be good to get this way, at a big show where duplicates might exist- because sellers all know a project today is going be stereo at minimum.
Closest big show is the Kutztown Radio Show, info at www.renningers.net at the Renningers flea market out back, two large pavillions full. its in May and September. Its probably the biggest show in the USA actually. Great fun and the friday night BBQ with the vendors drinking, shooting off fireworks and burning old radio cabinets is unique to all the USA shows (best if you know a seller to attend this ). Another show on the east coast is the Mid Atlantic Antique Radio Club (MAARC) show, its in June. Its in Beltville, MD at a hotel. Internet will find it. Its a much smaller show however.
Terry, what is the web site of the tube guy where you bought your tubes. It sounded like amptubes.com but going there says it is for sale? Can any one give me the URL that works? Thanks.

Hi Terry, Great video. Thanks so much.

Nice Klemt Echolette NG51 S tape echo at 27:21. It even comes with the ever missing top lid - wonder how it made its way over to America.
Right man! I was wondering also. he had to grab that for sure! Clean it up and rock ‘n roll 4,5,6 times over $250!
