I fear that an expensive high-end hifi producer may be getting a costly lesson in the Streisand Effect. Nice job, Trevor. And Mark wasn’t even critical, although he could have been. All Mark did was opened the device and made some service notes for his own use. Of course, any producer that files ID numbers off transistors is not to be trusted…
Nice to re upload this video Travor ! Evans killed his business , besides 25000 pounds od shit electronics ......his complaint will bite him in the A........... Thanks For standing up for the smiling honest Mark.........Mouis Rosman duid the same and challenged Evans to dare take down his video !
I saw this video before the take down, I watched in silence in 35 years of technical delivery I have never seen a retail product that was so shamefully presented. At £25K customer have been had by the throat and worse after sales backup is garbage too.
Good of you to share this. Several people have, now. I have re-watched it several times now, and I would probably have only watched it once, had the "Copyright Claim" not been put on the original posting. It may well go viral, maybe Tom Evans is just beginning to feel he may have been just a bit silly...
Hi Trev, I love your channel and I now love you a bit more, for supporting Mark and the crap that T.E. has put him through, pulling Marks excellent fix down for unreasonable reasons. Mark is a bloody genius and seems like one of them really genuine, gentle nice guys! Similar to yourself... Thank you for doing all you can for what's right and the "little man" being bullied! You are a true gentleman! All the best, Darren. Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.
@@LawsonsStudio Oh, the owner didnt appreciate Erin's Audio Corner take on his creation and promised to send the shirts in, if Erin didn't fall in love with them instead.
@@LawsonsStudio About 5 years ago I ran into an issue repairing a UK made amp and having no luck trying to find the schematic online, i wrote an email to the manufacturer, explaining the issue and background. Not only did they send me the full schematic, but also posted a couple of brand new badges, to replace the tired one on the amp, for free. Polar opposite to TE, isn't it?
I tell ya that Mark is an amazing person! He has a beautiful shop and all the parts to repair almost everything! Thanks Trevor for putting this video back up
Watched the original video and have been following the fallout with much amusement. I wonder how many owners are defending their purchase or trying to have a chat with Tom Evans. Thanks for putting this back up Trevor.
For those who don’t know, what’s the backstory here ? I assume from the comments that the manufacturer sued /contacted YT to have this service vid removed…
I cannot claim to have really gotten into alot of top tier gear. I did once have a Krell amp and CD player. The CD player was a write-off as a gear stripped and it was before the day of 3D printing. No gears to be found but the maker offered to fix it for 900$ minimum charge. I sold it to a Korean instead. The amp had issues and turned out to be leaking electrolytics on a PC board. One had created a conductive path with the eledtrolyte leakage. Actually was not a difficult fix(I replaced all alike caps) and overall the quality of construction was high in both. But looking at the outsides of gear leaves you no idea what evil lurks behind a pretty face.
I was going to say I saw this before. I did not know the vid was taken down or something happend. Looks like from the comments the person that makes these over price things did not like it being filmed and haveing others see how to fix the damn thing. And gets a copy right thing over the vid and never said what he did wrong. And they sent it to him to fix. Yeah they did not want anyone to fix it them selfs so they send it back and charge you over price work for one cheap part.
well done Trevor for supporting mark . I think the right to repair bill should be every where you live in the world it's a sad state of affairs in this day n age that you are not allowed by a manufacturer to repair a product that you have purchased with your own money and just because its gone out of warranty your not allowed to repair it your self or take it to some one who can and get the schematics for it cause the manufacturer says its to complicated for the ordinary person that judgement should be left up to the individual who owns the product not the manufacturer . sorry having rant but it gets up my nose lol grate job Trevor love the vids well done😀😀👍👍👍
Tantalum caps are (and look) a bit like hemorrhoids; When they start to fail, they really can be a pain in the a** when you have to replace them all. 😂
Bravi.
I hope that this video never completely disappears from YT, and that it will be shared and watched again and again on different channels, as much as possible, so that even national media and news agencies will catch this as a newsworthy event! Because this case is a real trampling of the free media and the producers of these videos! Mark has really spent hours and hours making this video too... figuring out the connections, drawing the maintenance instructions for the device in question himself! And the device manufacturer is citing copy protection to have the video removed from Mark's channel! How can you invoke copy protection for the video in question when no part of the product was copied and used in any other product? Not a single electronic component was designed or manufactured by Evans, everything was standard stuff that can be bought from any well-stocked hardware store. Rather, Evans could be held liable for removing the identification and manufacturer codes from the components... i.e. "owning" components that are "copy-protected" by the manufacturers? Or has he produced the components with a subcontractor who has illegally sold him copy-protected components, but has removed the product codes and other identifying markings? If this has happened, then this probably already meets the criteria for a crime!
From the T.E. website FAQ: Q: My turntable sounds poor. A. Sell off or give away your poor quality Phono Stage and buy a Tom Evans Phono Stage and live happily ever after!. Good Lord, I will do that RIGHT AWAY!
A lot of high-end audio kit is truly breathtaking. But there are some that are 100% "Emperor's New Clothes". I have a former workmate that used to fit and demo audio-file furniture. He would have to sit with idiots listing to wheatear, the amplifier sounded better sitting on Carrara or Alacatta marble!! I get it is better to have a heavy base, but really. Would the species of marble make an audible difference?
If you go to the original video, you can see who the person was that issued the takedown notice, and it was indeed the manufacturer, so yes, we actually do know that this was the manufacturer
This whole story is weird... Customer sends amp to Evans for repair. Claims Evans wants too much money to fix it, but doesn't say how much. Has Evens mail the amp to Mend it Mark and claims Mark won't be able to fix it (hearsay). Mark receives the amp, and shipping company damaged it as shown in Mark's video. Mark, not only fixes the amp, but repairs the damage quite nicely. Was the amp damaged when shipped from owner to Evans, or Evans to Mark. Or was the amp damaged, then sent to Evans? We don't know. The strange thing is, why did Mark go through all the trouble and hours to create a proper schematic for this amp with nicely punch holes and bound into a neat booklet? An amp he will never see again nor need a schematic for. Mark laughs about how cheap plastic stand-offs were used, shows metal stand-offs in his drawer as what should have been used, yet, replaces all the broken plastic stand-offs with more cheap plastic stand-offs. Wouldn't you upgrade it for your customer?, you had the parts in stock. Customer too cheap to spend 3 dollars more? Or was there some other reason.... We see a short video and think, wow, that was quick and easy fix. But what we didn't see were the numerous hours Mark put into this amp, reverse engineering it, creating a manufacturers grade schematic, and fixing the "shipping" damage. How much did the amp owner have to pay Mark? or was this all theater to trash Tom Evans? I'm not here to judge what the value of the amp is. Obviously, the owner bought it. New or used, working or broken, we don't know the real story. Did the owner buy it used "as is" fully knowing one of the channels didn't work, and trying to scam his way into a cheap fix to possibly flip the amp for a profit? Only the owner and Mark know the true story. And there is obviously a lot left out of the story. Meanwhile, the hivemind crowd with no critical thinking, jumps on the bandwagon to trash Evans.
Even if his genius designed the best phono preamp in the universe, the implementation is pathetically appalling. I guess housing the PCBs in a decent metal box with proper hardware and connectors would be cutting into profit margin too much. Censoring this video is even more pathetic. I really hate when self-obsessed designers and manufacturers remove part numbers and make repair impossible and on top of that expect that a repairer will have to rebuild their childish uneducated implementation. Mark rocks - as usual.
Thanks for re-posting Mark's video Trevor. Censorship won't be tolerated !

Remember this cost 25,000 pounds.. 😂
it sure as hell ain't worth 25K quid.
How much did the maker of the unit estimate the cost would be to replace the 20 cent capacitor?
Cracked case, a couple od posts and a £5 tantalum cap
