- Another great event. I was there on the last day, so missed the action, however, it was still a great time with the vendors and attendees. I met some super people. Thanks 4 this video. Brings backs 58 years worth of memories. There were some unique & phenomenal receivers way back when. Loved the shortwaves & the active sunspots. S-9 to all.
My youth and childhood brought back for a while. Thank you happy memories. I won't go ono the list of stuff I still have but you made me decide to resurrect my old Zenith cabinet and try and find some retro kit to fill it. It only has the speakers at the moment but hey are in good condition and sound great.
Thanks Terry for the Great Trip all around the Kalamazoo Antique Radio Extravaganza. Really enjoyed it. Will have to watch again, as I am sure I missed a great deal in just one trip.

My grandparents had that phone radio in their basement back in the day 15:39 , my Mom has it now hanging on the wall! LOVE IT! Love this video!!!!! So many cool vintage radios!!!!!!! I'm originally from the midwest so it's nice to hear those voices again!

Hello from New Zealand Terry, awesome place to spend a day and some cash . Sometimes, just sometimes..I wish I lived in USA. Not so many goodies around here but I do restore as I get them .
I now wish had a little album with pictures of all repair/restorations I’ve done over the years.
First one was a russian radio console with turntable on top , big speaker on front and 2 smaller ones on the sides , no cones on speakers and all wires chewed by mice...... Got it working! What a joy. I was 16 years old back then in the year of 2000 in Romania.
Having your videos back then whould have been great help.

Thanks for the tour! Cool beans. My favorites were the the spark gap transmitter / transceiver setup and the guy spinning 45's on the Garrard turntable amplified by the Bell amp into AR's.

I loved your video. The classic microphone that you thought might be a Shure was a Sennheiser. Love vintage radio and tv.
I couldn't make it so was glad to see a video of the event with its charm and appeal.
There were a couple of table radios on the that i remember from when i was younger and having to visit the principal's office so many times. I also remember visiting with a family friend back then and she had one also. Sitting there drinking coffee and eating banana nut bread.

Remember when we were kids, my buddy had a deer mount on his wall a big buck with a rack, nobody in the family knew where it came from, so he hung it up in his bedroom for target practice,are ammo was boxes of 78 records,most would break when they hit the wall, some stuck in the wall, and by the time we were done,the deer mount had no antlers and had been skinned to the bone, plus the wall had 100s of 78s stuck in the wall, never seen anybodys parents that were that cool since then, that room was destroyed.
So that's where all of my stuff went to.

Wow! @ 12:45 the RCA tube box. I remember as a kid the tv repair guy coming to the house with one of those.
tube "caddy". They show up at every show, most sell under $40.
My dad collected old tube radios and other oddities, like a wire recorder/record player.

Hi...I saw no many people visiting this exposition...Here in Brazil, unfortunatelly we haven't events like this. Something looks like this hapens in good old car expositions, when we can see some other antiques....I've a small radio colection...It tells some parts of radio history in my country and USA and europe....Continue posting this interesting events to keep knowlege alive. After attending the "VEE Winter Event" in January 2019, I decided to become a member of MARC, which hosts two (2) VEE Events each year. The "Winter Event" was impressive, from the wide variety of audio electronics available (Antique to High-End Vintage Components) and the number of people that showed up. So, I setup shop for the "VEE Summer Event" and brought some of my inventory to display/sell and was somewhat disappointed by the attendance. HOWEVER, I'm not here to bad mouth the organization or any of its members. There some of the most sincere and audio educated people I’ve come across in my 15 years of experience in the vintage audio trade. The members are truly devoted to audio electronics and extremely passionate about music!! So, before anyone decides to leave nasty comments take a moment and understand that the organizers are doing their best on a shoestring budget. Every person working the VEE Events does it out of love for vintage electronics and music. We all want them to be successful!!
Welcome aboard to the club, P.A. ! The VEE events are put on by the Michigan Antique Radio Club (MARC) which is a non-profit club and the events are run all volunteers (mainly the MARC Board members- I am one). Few people know how much work goes into each show. Sadly at this show many many radios and items were left over and parted out or broken down and trashed in the dumpster (most came from one estate that had very damaged items but there were still some very nice bits). MARC ran ads in mailed coupon books, also on WGVU radio and a free magazine called "Spark" that is at most restaurants in the area. We also flyered all pubs, bike shops, record stores and more in Kzoo. Also, CH 3 TV came in on Friday and did a story on this show. But, the population of western MI seems to not respond to the ads, so the MARC Board will be discussing moving the show to the Detroit area next year. The Winter VEE set new attendance records (over 1100- over double what this show did) so its not worth keeping it at this fantastic venue if we cant draw the crowds. Stay tuned for any news on the summer VEE on the event website www.thevee.org The WINTER show will stay at Costick Feb 1 2020. Hope to see you all there !

IN NO WAY was I trying to demean any of the Members or Volunteers because I saw how hard everybody was working. I truly believe that everyone involved setting up the event did their very best! I just wanted to let people know that every event cannot break attendance records. Also, I agree with you, that moving the event to the Metro Detroit Area would be a good idea. A larger geographical location should improve attendance. As a New Member, I didn’t mean to offend any individual in the MARC Organization. I do have some ideas on expanding the events network. However, I’ll do this by sending emails to the Organizations Administrators. Lastly, I want to thank everyone involved in putting on the summer event!

I got a ton of that stuff from my Dad. He built Heathkit stereos and even a Heathkit TV. He used to also work for Rowe AMI. The 4 channel Heathkit amp he built still works, along with the other component Stereo. Thanks for the video.

Wow, lotsa neat stuff, Terry! Sorry "The Crew" didn't come along. At marker 16:31 is an AM/FM clock radio, brown and tan in color, that my folks had when I was a kid in the 1960s and 70s. I can't recall the manufacturer, maybe RCA, it's the one behind and slightly to the right of the Westinghouse, it has a green radio sitting on top of it. That radio had great sound, even though it was made of plastic. It was a tube rig. I would have snatched that up! Thanks for bringing us along, as always!

Thanks for the video You have to love old cars, aircraft, radios, stoves form the past. It was a time when things were made to last and could be fix and you could point out a ford from a doge or a RCA from Phico

There is but the folks running it dont publicize it ! Its at the Sheraton Charlotte Airport Hotel at X33 and Billy Graham Parkway. Its the third weekend of March usually. www.cc-awa.club is the site. I have been going for 25 yrs straight. They need to re-brand that show BADLY like we have up here and wow they could really draw crowds in that town ! But, the old guys running it cant see the forest for the trees and its been running downhill for years. Their flea market is outdoors, and inside they do seminars and a very large auction that runs for hours (usually on a Fri eve). Its a buyers market there, many large estates of stuff have been coming thru lately.
Too bad that the exhibition was not near me. I could have used a lot ....
The prices were also moderate.

3:52 The Pioneer receiver (in the middle - vintage 70's), one of my daddy's favorites, he still got it operational in the basement. ;-)
I love "old" technologies nice vid!
And can still be repaired if it gives up after 40 ... 50 years of service and no difficult parts that also cost a fortune (sometimes)

I had planned on attending this ever since I missed the one back in the winter. But do to working Friday and some health issues that crept up last week, I ended up not going. i wish i could go to something like that.i remember growing up in the 70s all the stuff that i thought was crap was actually pretty cool stuff.
here in Denver we have "vintage voltage expo" ours is very well attended. I belong to the Colorado Radio Collectors club and we put on a display there every year.
We have something similar to this in Kutztown Pa twice a year. It's outdoors (under a pavilion) but weather has been an issue. Looking at some of the prices on the tables in your video your Michigan prices are way better than the east coast prices we see here. That same Thorens TD160 for less than $300 was for sale here last show at a whopping $600 + . Nice show!

I'm part of the organisation team of a old radio and ham radio flea market here in eastern Germany and all that looks familiar to me.
Mostly local made devices, a little exotic stuff. Prices are most likely low.
The same elderly people every year. Only a few younger people (like me). But always nice to chat a little with all of them!
Love your channel. It would be a nice service to people in your area to post a quick reminder of upcoming events like this in your videos, if you can. Having just moved to Midland, MI from Los Angeles, CA I feel like I'm ~in the middle of nowhere. I've searched for vintage electronics events in my area and did not see this or anything else of interest. Maybe I was just spoiled with a vintage electronics warehouse open 7 days a week back in CA? You would be like a kid in a candy store at APEX Electronics in Sun Valley, CA. Anyway, thanks for posting this walk through!
Great fun, and educational too. I'm a bit of an electronics enthusiast myself . I would love to own an oscilloscope even though I have no idea how to use one. Maybe it would look cool next to my mixing console and studio effects. Your videos inspire me to be a better technician. It is always great to see people that still have reverence and respect for the good stuff. It's a bummer that your crew is not there, but we already know this just isn't a place females usually go. Who wouldn't want to meet meet a gorgeous lady that could bias tube amps, solder guitar cables, check polarity on everything and get rid of hum, set compression and eq and play bass on their songs?
To all watching these videos, one thing to know is most of the great vintage electronics is located in the Midwest and East Coast. Not much stuff is south of Ohio or West of Illinois. So, if you live in those outlying reaches, get your buggy fueled up (gas prices are still at historic lows in price adjusted for inflation) and grab a pal or two, or spouse, or your inflatable girlfriend and get over here !

I bought an old Motorola tube radio, AM/FM with a mono phono input. After several years it bit the dust so I had it restored, $$$ later, I still use it for records and with a Bluetooth xmtr I can listen to SiriusXM.
I was there on Friday afternoon and got a demo of that spark-gap transmitter on the lower shelf you see at 5:54. Haven't watched the whole video yet, hope you got a demo of it later.

Thanks for posting. It reminds me of a computer / ham radio show that I used to attend. They removed the computer part of it and it is only ham radio now so not as interesting to me as it used to be.
The Dynaco preamps shown at 20:14 are BOTH tube preamps. The one on top is a PAS-2 and the one on the bottom is a PAS-3 or PAS-3x. The Dynaco preamp shown a few seconds earlier is solid state and is a PAT-4.
1:04:56 - My dad had one of those Bell amps. He bought it in the early 50's and survived until he sold it to a rock back in the mid 80's!

I was at Kalamazoo book store they had a huge basement and struck gold bought several book Downey California
This stuff all had its day... back when you could get a part from Radio Shack to fix it. Tube receivers worked great back then when there was great stuff to actually listen to on short wave. Today unless your a ham, short wave is no longer of interest. There is no way to relive the golden age of short wave. I miss it...
we are fitting Bluetooth receivers to most console radios now ! You can then stream whatever you want and get that classic tube radio sound ! Check out D-labs video of the winter VEE... at the start is a Zenith radio playing "Mr. B" an Ann Arbor pianist from a CD I own. Fantastic sound !

We have a similar expo here in the Netherlands! Driebergen , 4 times a year , same stuff and same type of people. Lol.
We have also a lack of AM stations and in a few years they want to stop with FM.

20:16 - The one on the bottom is a Dynaco Pas 3X tube preamp. Another one at 27:24.
The Pas 3x was the LAST tube pre-amp from DYNACO. SAD!
I started with a halicrafter 38 and then had a hammerlund 180 and TX1 from Heathkit. Made my first CW contact with that combination. N4ISF
At 1:21:00 the younger guy at 35 with the shutter dial, his story is pretty much like me. Got into the old stuff around 11 myself when I dug my grandparents old Silvertone am radio and record cutter out the garage. Cleaned the chassis, as it had rat droppings in it and had to fix the speaker cone. Interestingly, regular masking tape worked and actually it sounded good! At first it wouldn't come up, it would power but nothing. So, I cleaned the tuning plates, had to string up a tuning belt out of elastic hair ties IIRC and that worked! Then I noticed a broken connection on the antenna coil. Whipped out my trusty radio shack 10w soldering iron and reconnected it. And presto! It worked!!! Now after watching the vids here, Which we had TH-cam back in 1988, woulda been able to source the correct parts. Love those magic eye radios though. I'm torn would love a Sparton 12 or 1568, or one of those Zenith shutter dials from '38...
