I wanted to go to this but had a previous trip planned. There were a lot of radios you do not see in Indianapolis, Indiana. You did a very good job of filming the radios in your video (nice slow speed of showing radios. I also saw your video of the radios in the parking lot. You are learning a lot about the different makes of radios. Maybe next time I can go.
Very very very cool gear and thank god Marcia was there to hold you back. I have to give credit to the auctioneer.. that man never came up for air..... looks like a great event Terry, thanks for sharing !!!!!!
If I went to this, I'd go broke in a heartbeat. I'd have to live under a bridge, surrounded by all the wonderful crap I just bought. I'd be poor as a church mouse but I'd be one happy mf. Incredible stuff!
Nice to meet you there as you were filming the swap meet on Saturday! I bought the Airline movie dial at the swap meet at 11:30 in your video (the seller bought it at the auction and flipped it).
That wild spiral thing on top of that tv set was during many years or decades, a very common VHF indoor Antenna in Australia that usually came when you purchase a tv set for your living room. Works better than a pair of rabbits ears and less complicated to ajust ! Also when UHF tv arrived very late in Australia.these folded spiral VHF dipole Antennas gave great reception if you would point the Antenna not horizontally but diagonal to the UHF stations .they are very broadband. Great for FM radio too! The only tv sets that usually used rabbit ears where the portable small bedroom sets. Not wild for us Aussies, but as common as slice bread mate.
11:17 -black and green “General Television “ Catalin radio. General Television produced generic radios from 1932 or 33 through 1947 or 48. Most were house branded jobber sets. This radio is an example of how a generic design using a beautiful material -catalin - produced a radio that is highly desirable today
You say you were told "attendance is dwindling"? I have to ask....who told you that? Someone in authority, or someone with an opinion? What statistics did they have to back it up? As I posted below, this auction totally shattered the record for sales of any auction in the club's history. And attendance at the flea market was at least as strong as, if not stronger than last year. I'm a former president of the club and a member of the board of directors, so I have a bit more insight than most on how these events are doing.
The people who mentioned this to me were just attendees. I wasn't there myself, so I can't confirm anything. It's based on hearsay. I'm actually going to make plans to attend next year.
This is a great radio fest. I've been wanting to get out there for a few years, but can't catch a break and get away from the shop. I'm 3 months behind in repairs :( It's sad to hear that attendance is down. The club needs some new membership.
FYI, that auction totaled over $46,000 dollars....shattering the club record. The auction was purposely cut back because it ran way too long in previous years and there was too much junk going into it. So we capped it at 8 lots per seller and 260 lots total. Still, it went over 4-1/2 hours. The swap meet attendance was better this year than last. The club is doing quite well, despite the fact that the membership is aging. Young people just don't seem to be interested.
I used to work on the tube TV's back in the early 80's. Now so many projects. Check out BandersonTV fro those vids. I met him at this event. Cool guy! th-cam.com/users/bandersentv
THanks for posting this video. That Green and black radio was pretty. That RCA backlit sign was excellent. I love Solid State. Longer lasting than tubes and the same power in a smaller space. That reel to reel. All of this stuff, or most, we will never see again. You and your wife are funny. Great Video Were the singers using the Antique Amps?

I used to work on the tube TV's back in the early 80's. Now so many projects. Check out BandersonTV fro those vids. I met him at this event. Cool guy! th-cam.com/users/bandersentv
