WHAT IS A BURN OR SCALD:
Burns and scalds are damage to the skin usually caused by heat. Both are treated in the same way.
A burn is caused by dry heat - by an iron or fire, for example. A scald is caused by something wet, such as hot water or steam.
Burns can be very painful and may cause:
    • Red or peeling skin
    • Blisters
    • Swelling
    • White or charred skin
The amount of pain you feel is not always related to how serious the burn is. Even a very serious burn may be relatively painless.
    TREATING BURNS AND SCALDS:
To treat a burn, follow the first aid advice below:
    • Immediately get the person away from the heat source to stop the burning
    • Cool the burn with cool or lukewarm running water for 20 minutes - do not use ice, iced water, or any creams or greasy substances like butter
    • Remove any clothing or jewellery that's near the burnt area of skin, including babies' nappies, but do not move anything that's stuck to the skin
    • Make sure the person keeps warm by using a blanket, for example, but take care not to rub it against the burnt area
    • Cover the burn by placing a layer of cling film over it - a clean plastic bag could also be used for burns on your hand
    • Use painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen to treat any pain
    • If the face or eyes are burnt, sit up as much as possible, rather than lying down - this helps to reduce swelling
    • If it's an acid or chemical burn, dial 999, carefully try to remove the chemical and any contaminated clothing, and rinse the affected area using as much clean water as possible
Read more about treating burns and scalds at: www.nhs.uk/conditions/burns-a...
    WHEN TO SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE:
Depending on how serious a burn is, it may be possible to treat it at home.
For minor burns, keep the burn clean and do not burst any blisters that form.
More serious burns require professional medical attention.
You should go to a hospital A&E department for:
    • All chemical and electrical burns
    • Large or deep burns - any burn bigger than the injured person's hand
    • Burns that cause white or charred skin - any size
    • Burns on the face, hands, arms, feet, legs or genitals that cause blisters
If someone has breathed in smoke or fumes, they should also seek medical attention.
Some symptoms may be delayed and can include:
    • Coughing
    • A sore throat
    • Difficulty breathing
    • Facial burns
People at greater risk from the effects of burns, such as children under 5 years old and pregnant women, should also get medical attention after a burn or scald.
The size and depth of the burn will be assessed and the affected area cleaned before a dressing is applied. In severe cases, skin graft surgery may be recommended.

Advice: Please, Please, find tap water immediately, as it can be life-saving. My burned area that is flushed with water was recovered within 1 week and did not feel pain anymore except some red color really quickly. While the area that is not flushed in time lasted 3 weeks, got blisters, and will get long-lasting scars.

I'm a 52-year-old African-American woman and I have always gotten heat rash every summer since I was a little girl. This year I got the rash as normal on my forearms and when I started scratching them, they turn to raised burn looking scars. I've had them about a week now and I've been putting vitamin e oil and also some aloe vera gel on it but they've never turned to raised scars before. Normally the rash just goes away when I stay out of the Sun and out of the heat. It's very bizarre. I never really thought about going to the doctor but I'm not sure exactly what I should do. Should I just give it more time to heal and go away?

I accidentally tipped boiling hot water from a kettle on my foot I went to minor injury and they pop the blister and then dressed it told me to come back the next day and said I didn’t need more dressing but my foot is still very sore and red lumps like a rash They told me to apply Vaseline which I’ve been doing but I’ve been wrapping it in cling film as well i keep my socks off during the day so the air can get to it but at night I wrap it is that okay ?

I’ve experienced burning many times (on finger) well what i learnt is firstly put cold water on it for some time then just sit down or get busy with something i know it will hurt u alot but trust me just take the pain for some time then u will get used to it... whenever u cant stand the pain anymore blow on it or put cold water again and when u sleep and wake up the next day it will be better IMPORTANT NOTE: after a few days a ball will appear on ur burnt finger or place whatever happens DO NOT POP IT IM WARNING U FROM NOW CUZ IF U DO U WILL WITNESS HELL 2.0 😂 but im serious do not pop it and yea good luck

I just accidentally spilled boiling hot water on my left thumb and its hurting like hell, like its stinging. The skin's melted away a bit. The pain's reduced in the last 3 hours but hasn't stopped yet. Should I keep the burn open to air heal or should I put a dressing on top of it?
Update: it's been 20 days since I burned my thumb. Now there's no pain whatsoever and a new skin's formed already. Didn't put any ointment/dressing on it after the first day. It helped reduce the pain greatly.
