To give your blister the best treatment, you need to know what stage it's at. Take a look at your blister roof. Is it intact, torn or deroofed?
    0:01 - BLISTER ROOF INTACT
A blister will start off with his roof intact. How long it remains intact is subject to many variables. On the bright side, the best thing about an intact blister roof - if there is a good thing about a blister - is it can't get infected if it stays like this. Because the roof is intact, and that skin is keeping the blister fluid in AND keeping germs out. So protecting the blister roof is our main concern right now by putting an island dressing on it - maybe a Bandaid or Cutiplast - anything where there's an absorbent, non-stick pad surrounded by tape on all sides. Just make sure there's no tape on your blister roof. I mean, you don't want to rip the blister roof off when you take it off so make sure there's nothing sticking to the blister roof.
All in all, the aim of treating this blister is to protect his roof.
    2:11 - BLISTER ROOF TORN
What happens if you don't protect your intact blister roof? It will tear. And that's where the alarm bells start ringing. Because as soon as it tears, it's open to infection. So we need to do everything we did for the last blister. PLUS, now we need to use an antiseptic to kill any germs lurking around. I prefer a liquid for this rather than a cream or ointment. Betadine or povidone iodine is my favourite. AND we need to monitor it closely for signs of infection. And a quick tip - Ideally, keep the torn blister roof in place because that skin provides some protection to the raw blister base.
All in all, the aim of treating this blister is to prevent infection.
    2:52 - DEROOFED BLISTER
What happens if you don't do enough to protect your torn blister roof? His roof will rub right off and you'll be left with a red raw sore called a Deroofed blister. A deroofed blister is more painful, more open to infection and takes longer to heal. So do all the things you did for the last blister, but now there's a focus on healing. Because we need strong, flexible, resilient skin to grow back over that raw blister base. That's what your dressing provides - a moist wound environment. You can use an island dressing for this blister. But a hydrocolloid like Compeed is the dressing of choice for these blisters.
All in all, the aim of treating this blister is to get good skin healing.

*Have you just watched this video and wished you'd never put that hydrocolloid on?* Because you've put it on an intact or torn blister? Well, don't panic!
While it's on, it's not doing any harm. *It only becomes a problem when you go to take the Compeed off.*
So consider just leaving it on for as long as possible until it becomes very loose. Then give it a soak in soapy water to help loosen the remaining adhesive and help you remove it safely.
    Hope this helps.

I have a plethora of all of the above around my ankles because I’m recovering from catching poison Ivy.
Basically no where to stick adhesive from the bandaid without it touching a roof or deroofed blister. Any Ideas on my options?
I’ve been legging it around in shorts and sandals which is fine while I’m around the house, but at work I wear socks and steel toes, I need some sort of protection, so I can walk normal at work...
      Again, ideas???

Yesterday was hot, I wore sandals and walked around 10km without a care in the world. Fastforward and today I am in bed with two huge blisters in each foot (one ruptured) watching treatment videos on youtube because I can't take a step without limping and flinching. Somehow, finding all the people in the comments are also trying to figure out how to treat their blisters is making me feel less miserable. Together in pain and confusion. Cheers, everyone!

I'm usually bad, if I have a roofed blister that is painful, I will get a sterile pin, make a small hole, drain it, keep the roof on and put a plaster over it. The pain is reduced and I swear it heals quicker!
So I'm a little naughty but try to keep it all as sterile as possible!

The weirdest thing is I cut my blister roof off many times before, I don't do anything to it after beside cleaning it in the shower. It just heals in a couple of days, without me doing much to it really. Though to be fair this is why I prefer walking/running/hiking barefoot or with sandals, so I don't get a blister.

Finally a great and full explanation. There’s actually another video of a doctor stating the complete opposite of this. This definitely makes more sense. To leave it alone and let the body heal. How could there be doctors on here telling g people to pop them if it makes them more likely to get infected 🤔🤦🏽‍♂️

      @Blister-Prevention  ปีที่แล้ว +3

Hmm, yeah, that was probably me too. But thank you. Anyway, just to clarify, there are times when lancing a blister is a good idea. Just because it's more likely to get infected, doesn't mean it will. It means you have to look after it properly so it doesn't. I’ve been using a liquid antiseptic to clean it and Neosporin to dress it while wrapping it with gauze to somewhat let it breathe. Should I be using a bandage to completely seal it off so no air gets to it, or is the gauze acceptable? Also, the center has become very red as if developing a blood clot from walking on it. Is that normal or should I be concerned and take more preventative measures? Thanks in advance!

When I get a blister on my foot, I rub it with an alcohol swab, make a small tear right on the edge, push all the fluid out, and try to get the layers of skin as close together as possible so there’s no air or fluid underneath. Then I put a band-aid over it; the kind we have is really flexible and sticky on all sides of the pad. I make sure it’s tight enough that the sun can’t move around a lot, but I’m the right position for me to move my foot in the ways I need to. Then, every morning and night I do it again; this lasts a few days. Eventually the skin will just get hard and seem to be a thick callus, but like a week later the top layer will peel off, so I cut off the loose parts. Done it a few times and honestly? It works really well. Doesn’t hurt very much and has never gotten infected

I spilled hot water on my foot one week ago. It immediately turned into a huge blister on my toe and I tried really hard not to pop the blister, but it was too uncomfortable and got bigger and bigger every day. So after 5 days, I finally drained it with a sterilized needle and put some antibiotic ointment and covered it up with a bandage. Now after two days, I feel numbness around my toes and just noticed I have some inflation on the sole of my foot. Don't know how long it has been swollen, but it has made walking difficult for me. It sounds really pathetic that just some boiling water can do so much damage, and I feel stupid to tell anyone I'm limping. Can it be infected? Any advice would be appreciated since I'm still struggling with the healing process. Thanks
