This show’s not for everyone. It can be kind of hard to watch. But the acting is masterful, the cinematography is gorgeous and the story is so complex. A huge draw of this show is the amount of conversion it sparks. If there was one “heavy” show you were going to watch, this is definitely one of the best to have in rotation.
A couple of things not yet mentioned: The Handmaid’s Tale is based on a book written the 80s. It was a cautionary tale essentially about what could happen if the government becomes a theocracy (rule by religion, mostly Christian). Also they change the names of the women because they are no longer independent. They are named after the man OF the house thus of-Fred it changes if they go to a new house too (the same thing was done to slaves in the U.S.; it’s a very good way to take away hope that comes from a sense of self and autonomy).
Well what was happening in the 80s. Look up middle eastern women 70s and 80s and you'll find out. At least that is what Margaret Atwood said it was about in the 90s. If you watched the movie they even had shawls covering their faces.
I read this book in high school & am caught up on the show, but enjoy getting others' opinions on it. They didn't put anything in it that hasn't happened somewhere in the world. It should make you angry & uncomfortable. It is pretty horrific, but it shows what can happen when power goes unchecked, religious indoctrination is forced on the masses, and women lose their reproductive rights & freedoms. I hope you keep watching, it really is well done & is a warning of what could happen.
so just a quick rundown for stuff that is not really explained in the show: Handmaids - Red (they are fertile "sinners") Wives - Blue (wives of the commanders mostly infertile) Marthas - Green (servitude made of infertile women) Econowives - Grey (lowest ranking they are wives of low ranking men aka the poor people they are supposed to fullfill all of the jobs above for their husbands) Aunts - Brown (they are the overseers of the handmaids etc)
I love your reactions and I couldn't have been more pumped to see this one from you. This show is terribly important, on so many levels. Hands down the scariest shit on TV right now. Mostly because crap like this very well could happen. So thank you!
Everythin that happened in the show happened in our past history, that's the ''brilliants'' of it ... I know it's extremely difficult at times to continue with this show but it's our history in a sense. This show rips you naked and takes all the hope you have and then it gives back little by little until those little rewarding parts build up to a brilliant resistance and becomes so so powerful !!! I think this is the best show ever!
This show is sort of the opposite of "slow burn shows". With those you have to push on because the story needs to pick up, but here you have the story laid out up front and you have to push on by hoping against all hope that the situation will get better. It pays off but still...
I really don't know this show is for you dude! I've binge watched 2 1/2 seasons in the past two days. I haven't cried this much since idk when. I feel like I have to watch I have to see what happens next if anyone finds there way back to life!! It's so disturbing and so dark I don't know if you can stomach it it's very very hard to watch but I feel compelled like I just have to know it's so so so sad!!!!! Good luck
I'm so glad to see a new reactor to this show! I hope you continue doing them because there are so few reactors and it's one of my favorite shows. Not easy to watch, but still a favorite.
I agree with you. I think it is important to have a healthy balance of realness to a show or movie but I don't like watch characters get brutually tourter or have terrible things happened to them just to prove the world cruel. I watch movies and shoes to get away from the cruelty of the world. If i wanted to be reminded of it I would just turn on the news and watch that.
Exactly. I was sucked into this show but after watching the first season I realised it really isn't a healthy use of my time. Depressing and awful, as you say - there is the news for that.
It’s a bit like someone saw the Theon/Reek stuff in GoT and wanted to make an entire show about it. I read the book back when it came out, and thought the film was pretty good too. I’m not convinced it is better as a tv show, partly because it is so much June’s POV and I found myself wanting more of other viewpoints (especially Serena). It does widen out in later episodes but I still would’ve liked to see more.
Such a well done show. I like when you get really into the show and feel it. This show is meant to make you rage about things that should be ouraged about. It gets more and more interesting as you get deeper into this world. It's fucked up but well done. The dark humor in this show sometimes really makes me laugh.
some things are hard to watch, but NEED to be watched. Thank you for being brave enough to do this, as most men wont watch, nonetheless react to this show online. most men want to ignore these things because they want to deny the truth in it, to save their own privilege.

Yes. I saw parts of it. I felt disgusted, even scared.

Oh, & the lady that smacks June in the head in the shaming circle, is the author of the book, Margaret Atwood.
hahhaaha i didn´t expect that. Interesting
Wow I didn’t know that
this show is so heavy and sometimes it seems there is no hope. It's mental torture but I still watch it.

Offred was also a main character in Mad Men. She played the secretary to Don Draper.
Peggy!

This show is so heartbreaking, but needs to be told. The acting and cinematography is beautiful
It's definitely a tough watch but please stick with it, it's a great show and there aren't a lot of reactions to it on TH-cam for some reason.
I noticed that, too & if ever there was a show to react to, it's this one. It might be because it's only on Hulu.
"Is this like a lamaze class? " 🤣

Excellent reaction! Look forward to more.
This can be a hard show to watch, but it is so worth it (IMO).

Great reaction. Hope you continue with the show. After episode 1 I was disgusted but intrigued and binged season 1.
Finally a man react to this amazing show :D
Good tip for a tv show or movie. if theres a scene in a classroom theres important information to be learned.

You should do reactions! There are so few for this show & it produces great conversations in comments.

Omg! I had to take a break watching this show but knowing you’ll be reacting to it I may have to start it up again!
Great reaction. Am I right, that you stopped reacting after Episode 4?

Are you still doing Nikita
Yes he is. He just did episode 14 on July 20th on Patreon.
Late in the game I am. Great reaction. But bro, don’t us “low man on the totem pole” It’s insensitive and inaccurate.
Is that Rory from Gilmore Girls?
I am so sad that you know that.
Don't watch this show. It makes you feel bad and it's full of watching women be tortured.
It's literally happening in the world today
Don't tell him what to do. He can watch whatever he wants to watch.
