Haymitch drinks because for the past 25 years he’s been a mentor and every year he watches the kids from district 12 die in the arena. haymitch won the 50th hunger games by using the arena against his opponent and the capitol (president snow and the bureaucracy) didn’t like that so they had his family and girlfriend killed. The quarter quells also have special unique rules, that year happened to have double the tributes from the districts. So instead of 24, there were 48 tributes. that is a lot of baggage…
I’m still so upset Suzanne decided to make the prequel about Snow and not the 50th from Haymitch (or the female tribute that was related to the Mayor, wife’s sister I think?) POV.
@@hayleyhellbound9513 she no longer wants to do things specifically about the games precisely because people want to watch that, and it shouldn't be normal for us to want to see an arena with 48 kids killing each other
@@fredmedrano6584 He discovered that the edge of the arena threw back everything that was thrown at it, when they tried to kill him with the axe, the only thing he did was deflect so that the weapon hit whoever threw it.
@@Marina-pb1oqMore accurately it was thrown at him by the last Career, and since it missed they were stuck on the cliff side waiting to see who died from bleeding out first (Since Haymitch had his guts spilling out and was barely held in by his arm, and the Career lost an eye along with other injuries). And like you said with him knowing the cliff was gonna bring the axe back, he ducked and it killed the Career instead of him. Just to give what you said more detail in case of any confusion from someone else.
Also - the bread flashback: Katniss was starving after her dad died in the mines. Peeta purposefully burnt the bread (which earned him a beating from his mom) so he could give katniss something to eat while pretending to throw the ruined bread to the pigs.
I see people leaving that tidbit about Peeta's mom beating him for giving Katniss the bread and it's an actual plot point that isn't revealed until the fourth movie.
Peeta lost his leg as a result of his injuries in the games, but that is left out of the movie. Being an amputee has an impact on his abilities and how people view him later on. Just something to remember if you see him struggling or people worrying about him!
The hand thing is a sign of respect in her district, plus in the book there is a scene in which Katniss receives a parachute from District 11 (Rue's District) with a loaf of bread. This is something that has never happened before, it is rare for some districts to send things to the two competitors in their district, let alone to others.
in the book glimmer (that girl that got killed by the tracker jackers), it says that her canon didn‘t go off for a few minutes which means she was alive for a few minutes more.
the hand gesture can be understood as the 3 fingers in the middle representing the united community and the thumb holding over the smallest finger as a gesture that the stronger ones protect the weaker little ones. Also the books gave a deeper inside to why running away was almost no option for anybody. First of most people didnt know how to survive in the woods, Katniss and Gale only knew because their fathers sort of teached them hunting (wich is highly illegal and punishable by execution, if caught) and after Katniss Dad died she struggled for a long time to be a sucessfull hunter. She and Gale run a daily risk of getting caught & punished. The books describe how one day Katniss and Gale encountered a boy and a girl who had apparently escaped from the Capitol and were being chased by a hovercraft. Katniss and Gale watched as the boy was pierced by a spear and dragged upwards while the girl was caught in a net. Katniss later meets the girl again as Avox in the Capitol. She was captured, tortured and had her tongue cut out as punishment. So it's understandable that no one had the courage to flee, because once you get caught by the Capitol, you'll wish you had starved to death in the woods.
I forgot about that part of the book! It’s true, and makes me want to read the books again to remember all the things I forgot. This book and movie hold such a special place in my heart ♥️
Yeah you guys somehow missed Thresh’s death (the boy from district 11). Right before Katniss and Peeta are attacked by the wolf mutts, they hear a pack of them roaring ferociously and a boy’s scream, cannon fire, and then his face shown in the sky.
32:12 they dont say it but the reason she missed here was bc she wasnt use to a professional bow she was use to her hand made ones that she would make in her district
More specifically the balance of a metal bow is very different to the balance of a wooden one, which would throw her aim off because she wouldn’t know how much force she needs to apply to keep her bow arm stable.
It's not the OG Battle Royale as that book came out first in Japan. This author says she hadn't read it though, and instead based the Capitol on Rome and the Tributes on both gladiators and the tributes fed King Minos fed to the Minotaur in Greek Mythology (as well as reality TV shows). That's why the Capitol people have names like Caesar, Seneca and Coriolanus.
I had never realized that, but it honestly makes a lot of sense. Some of the gladiators were volunteers, but most were slaves being forced to fight. And they fought both other gladiators and animals. I can totally see the parallels!
The number of times your name goes in the reaping bowl works like this. When you turn 12, your name goes in once, every single year it gets added in again, so when you’re 13 it’s in twice, and when your 18 it’ll be in their 7 times. Poorer members of the districts take out a form of welfare called tesserae, which is a years supply of grain and oil for one person, the amount you can take out is unlimited, but you can only take this out while your eligible for the Hunger Games and the price is that for each one you take out, your name is added in another time. Gale is 18, his name is in there naturally 7 times but as he’s taken out tesserae every year for all of his family, it’s in their a total of 42 times. Katniss is 16 and has taken out tesserae every year for her, her mother and sister.
District 1: Known for luxury items like jewelry, which are used to decorate the Capitol. District 1 residents are some of the wealthiest in Panem, and their tributes are called "Careers" because they train for years before competing. District 2: Known for masonry and defense. District 3: Known for general electronics. District 4: Known for fishing. District 5: Known for power and electricity. District 6: Known for transportation. District 7: Known for lumber. District 8: Known for textiles. District 9: Known for grain, and is sometimes called the Bread Basket of Panem. District 10: Known for livestock. District 11: Known for agriculture. District 12: Known for coal mining. District 13: Previously in charge of nuclear weaponry, but was destroyed before the start of the book.
If you win, you live in The Victor's Village in your original district. They don't allow people from the Districts to EVER become Capitol citizens (check out the prequel film #5 to find out why). Then every year, the Victors become Mentors to the next round of Tributes (sacrifices). Haymitch has been forced to mentor children to their deaths for 23 years. He's re-traumatized year after year. If you fight against any part of the system, they don't hurt you; they hurt the people you love. If necessary they kill the people you love to control you. There are no winners of The Hunger Games, only survivors.
The guy from Eleven (Rue's partner) died bc of the "dogs", Katniss and Peeta heard him scream and we got the canon, after that they started to run till they met with Cato.
I don’t know if anyone else has mentioned it but it’s against the law to train for the Hunger Games but the career districts don’t abide by that, which earned them that nickname. Districts 1, 2, and 4 (which they kind of left out in the film series) would train for the games, and volunteers weren’t uncommon for those districts.
ok it triggers me when people say this series copied battle royale games, when in fact this movie came out before any battle royale games such as Fortnite and pubg, I still remember that every game came out with battle royale was a copy of hunger games movie idea, the first ever game was Minecraft Hunger games servers, and then they changed the name over time to survival games, and from there other games came out with battle royale games, it was all inspired from the hunger games movie and not the other way!
They don’t mean battle royale games, I think they mean the Japanese movie battle royale that came out in the early 2000s which has an extremely similar premise
Book reader here and you can't just run away. Almost no one was able to make it they tracked them down and then did absolutely awful things to them as punishment. Also after someone wins the games they become even more controlled than you already were.
Keep in mind in the book Katiss saw the capitol kill one and capture another escapee while not being seen by the hovercraft. Which demonstrates that Katiss’s and Gale would have had fighting chance of eluding the capitol had they escaped into the forest
Because you were talking over it you missed the part where they explained how many times each person has their name in the lottery. Prim only had her name in once, Gale's name was in there 42 times, so his chances were a lot higher than 'next to none' of getting picked.
This is my first time to to see your channel. To answer a question or two… it is against the law to practice for the games prior to being selected. BUT District’s 1-4 (mostly 1 & 2) train since birth so they can volunteer and win. District one provide the Capital with Electricity, District 4 provides Fish and seafood, District 7 is lumber/wood, etc. so, the closer you are to the capital, the more they let it slide because they need a lot of electricity to keep the capital running. There were 13 Districts, but that district was blown up in the uprising that started the games 74 years ago. No, once you have won the games, you get a really nice house in Victor’s Village, tons of money… everything you need for a wonderful life. In District 12, Haymich is the only one that has won so he lives there all alone. THEN every year you have to go to the reaping and advise the new boy and girl how to survive. By the time Katniss and Peeta were picked, Haymich has become a drunk, soured and hates everybody and doesn’t care if they survive. As you see he had a change of heart once he saw how well Katniss was doing. The reason Katniss missed her first shot at the “show and tell” part where they get rated 1-12, was because the bow and arrows were made of metal and she is used to her homemade bow, which she could not bring with her. She needed a practice shot to used to the equipment but Haymich told her not to shoot until the ratings part so that the other tributes couldn’t see her secret weapon. Peeta was told not to show his strength, but since he fell off the nets, the others were watching him and saw weakness which put a target on his back. Katniss told him to throw the weight so that the others could see he is still someone to compete with or against. And man in the white jacket, respect, but could you not talk so much!? I see a lot of your comments, including mine, are filling you in on things that they’ve already explained in the film but you were talking over it so much you missed a lot. These films just keep getting better with each one. Can’t wait for the next!
If they don't talk, there's no reaction/commentary worth watching. Some of the worst reactions I've watched have too little engagement from the viewer. You have to understand that they might miss a thing or two when watching reactions like this, especially when there's multiple people exchanging thoughts. It's impossible for them to catch LITERALLY EVERYTHING the first time - and that's okay!
@@turntsnaco824 who said anything about 'not talking at all'? If someone has any understanding at all, they should to know when it's a good time to talk and when it isn't. And you might need to get out more and watch other reactions -- you'd be amazed how easily it can be done. People who watch these reactions just want them to _not miss more than is necessary_ but some like this think it's their job to just keep on talking over what they're seeing. They're missing everything.
the three fingers sign symbolizes gratitude, love and farewell, is used exclusively in 12 (districts barely have any communication between each other) during funerals if I remember correctly
I personally interpreted the ginger girl dying as a suicide since she was at least somewhat adequate in recognition of plants during training since they didn't describe it further than pictures like a match game. I can't recall if the books mentions anything to particularly confirm this either.
books are different but the movie definitely seems to imply suicide, in the book shes shown to be more of a very sly pickpocket who steals off others what she knows they wont miss and she took some of the berries that peeta had been collecting and sat by some cheese they had leftover from some sponsor gifts not knowing they were poison and sadly for her in the end, neither did peeta
The books are more cruel... About the dogs in the end... Those were created genetically with the dna of the fallen tributes..i think.. katniss could see one of them with Rue's eyes 😨 Sorry for my poor english 👉👈
This is often misunderstood with people saying that the dogs were created from the bodies/body parts/DNA of the fallen tributes, and that just isn't true. Fallen tributes ARE returned to their homes. In the books they mention that they take them away from the battlefield because one tribute started cannibalizing them for survival, and that so angered viewers and tributes' families that the Capitol began taking the bodies away as soon as the tributes' vital signs show that they are dead. They are packed up in simple wooden boxes and sent home to their districts immediately for funerals. If the Capitol doesn't want other tributes to be able to mutilate the bodies out of fear of an uprising, they certainly wouldn't do it themselves. The Capitol scientists are, however, master geneticists and so they made the dogs' eyes _LOOK_ like the eyes of the tributes instead of being standard canine eyes. And to be fair to most of the people who spread the info that the dogs _are_ the fallen tributes, the book says this. HOWEVER, you have to remember that the book is a 1st-person narrative told only from Katniss's POV; it is _Katniss's_ belief that the dogs are the tributes, and there is no one at the scene to tell her differently, and this is what the Capitol _wants_ for her to think because it's a cruel mind-game and very much in keeping with the mental and emotional torture that they heap on the tributes (something made much more explicit in the sequel).
3:35 Mind you whole series Hunger Games have been filmed between North Carolina, Germany and Poland, if you ever want to see some of those infrastructure or nature. This movie's district 12 was specifically filmed in abandoned village side of Hickory NC.
57:55 When I watch reactions, a lot of people hate Cato and the other more sadistic Tributes and root for their deaths, and that always makes me really appreciate what Susanne Collins did when she wrote these books. At the start, everyone watching the movie is talking about how crazy it is that everyone watches the broadcast at all times, placing bets and being invested etc. By the time Glimmer is dead, a lot of reactors say that they do not feel bad for her. Because she's a bad person, and hellbent on killing, and she's a murderer, right? But she's a kid - one of the kids in the richer Districts that is raised from birth to expect death, to train to kill, to entertain the masses with murdering other children. Their parents enrol them in that training before the children have a chance to start thinking rationally. Glimmer, Cato, that little group is 100% a product of the world the Capitol has built, where this is normal. If you were raised that way, I honestly believe there are two options - you either wouldn't have survived to this point (truly wouldn't a child go insane), or you lean into the madness to survive. That's life for the kids in the higher Districts. In the lower Districts, there is no money, no training to fight and barely an education, no nutritious food, no medicine - every day is a struggle. The children are desperate, raised for slaughter at the hands of the richer kids in the Games (99% of the time, that's the outcome). I think the book and the movie replicate the experience really well - when someone starts to root for who should live, and who should die. You stop paying attention to the fact that none of these kids should be in this situation at all. Panem.
Another piece of information from the books, the animals at the end are called mutes/mutants (cus like most of the other animals they talked about, the mockingjay or the wasps, are genetic created) and in the book they had the eyes of the other kids that died. Sorry for the different lure dumps but it makes such a difference in these scenes. I loved your reaction! And keep going because it gets better
I was searching to make sure at least someone shared this bit of info. It's the one thing that stuck with me heavily from the books. I like to think the stare Kat shares w/ the mut at end is the one she realized had Rues eyes from the book and give that scene such a sickening feeling each time.
I know it would have been difficult to add into the movie because of the extra characters and extra background they'd have had to include, but man I wish they'd had the story of the mockingjay pin at least be a little closer to what it was in the books. Long story short, a character that was cut out who was really Katniss's only non-Gale friend gave her that pin to wear as her token in the games. It turned out that token had come from the girl's aunt, another tribute in the Hunger Games in which Haymitch won. This being randomly picked up by Katniss with no meaning and giving it to Prim "for luck" just for Prim to give it right back was weird and felt meaningless
1:26:28 "I guess it is kinda old" 😭 yeah like 12 years 😭😭 Tbh the cast absolutely crushed it. The movies only get better from now on. Can't wait for you to react to the other ones! You gained a sub ❣️
Team peeta until the end. Katniss don't need Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred, because she has plenty of fire herself. What she need is dandelion in the spring, the bright yellow one that means rebirth instead of destruction. Only peeta can give her that. And that's what she said. This ain't all about romance but it's good that katniss has someone by her side like peeta who can understand her. It's all about surviving.
I am currently rereading the books as prompted by the release of the movie for the prequel and its definitely still as solid as when I first read the series over a decade ago 🔥
Winning the Games takes your name out of the running for future games, but you are expected to be a Mentor to future tributes (like Haymitch) or fulfill specific tasks for the capitol. You are supposed to get a new home in the Victor's village, food for your District and money. You will see this in the 2nd film, Catching Fire (my fave movie out of the now 5 films)
The reason Katniss missed the first time with the bow shooting at the target in front of the Gamemakers it’s bcuz she’s not used to using that bow and arrow cuz it’s not hers. But then of course she got it no problem the second time 😉
I also read somewhere that she missed bc she's used to using an "imperfect" bow, made of wood and by herself while this one was made with the perfect material and for the game (my english is bad sorry if you didn't understand well)
Lmfao hes talking about nails as rue is laying there dying. Cracked me up. Loved the video, super glad more people are reacting to this series bc its so good and not just some corny teen romance
One quick note is that no, you can't just run away. The books go into A LOT more detail about the severe control Panem has on its citizens. There were people who tried to run away only to get captured and subjected to horrible torture as punishment. Katniss herself sees one girl captured in a flashback when out hunting and runs into her again. The poor girl had her tongue cut out and was forced to live as a slave. And the movie doesn't do the best job explaining Katniss' past and what happened to her family and why Peeta had a positive impact on her life. 😂 He intentionally burned the bread (getting a beating from his abusive mom) so he could give it to Katniss when her family was starving to death after her dad died and her mom went cationic in grief. The bread he gave them literally saved their lives because they would have died if they had gone any longer without food.
Just like a gun, with a bow you have to sight & know how it may pull to one side, the tension in the string, how it "fires" etc. Because they were supposed to hid their skills from the other contestants & save it for the hidden display of talent to the game makers, Katniss did get to feel or have any practice shots with the Capitol's fancy bows. She's used to handmade. So had she needed a few shots (it was more than just one on the books) before she got the bullseye & then the pig. But still, she adjusted & figured the new bow out QUICK.
Hunger Games is considered the American OG Battle Royal that made the surge of game concepts like Fortnite & many others, but there is a movie called Battle Royal that did it first in film that many assume the author took inspiration from, but the concept of battle royals itself dates back centuries in many historic moments in time.
tbh i hate when the two are compared cuz the only real similarities are child death game with 1 winner but they're two totally different overarching stories, its like saying hamlet and the lion king are the same and thatd be a wayyyy better plot comparison cuz its basically true anyway if youre just talking overarching plot
@@nope19568 I'm not really comparing them, i've only seen the movie once if im honest, just noting that society assumes she took inspiration from it due to it coming out before hers & general concept of kids fighting to the death being incorporated.
So when Haymitch won, he was in a special anniversary game that they call a quarter quell. In the quarter quells, they make a special rule, and the year that Haymitch won, there were 48 tributes instead of 24. On top of that, every year since, he has been expected to help the tributes from 12 EVERY SINGLE YEAR, and he has watched them die EVERY TIME as well... His story is so much more interesting in the books!
The 3 finger salute is a sign of defiance of the capital but a salute to the other districts in solidarity. It was used in Thailand during their government issues a few years back
By the way, the girl who pins and taunts Katniss before being killed by Thresh wasn't just monologuing because it's a movie and we needed some time for someone to come in and save the main character. She actually made a deal with Cato that she could kill Katniss as long as she "put on a good show" for the viewers. I don't see this fact commented very much, but that scene always made me cringe a little until I read the book and realized that was why she did it and it wasn't just a "movie-ism".
Bro believe it or not ,I just finished all movies of hunger games series ,and these guys also start watching this. So I think me and these guys really live in the same world. How convenient
The Hunger Games is the first book in the series and was released on September 14, 2008. Fortnite was first announced in 2011 and was officially released on July 25, 2017 with the Battle Royale mode released on September 26, 2017. So, you could say that Fortnite was based on Hunger Games. (I don't know if it was, but the dates line up that way.)
the whole original Hunger Games franchise is insanely good! the dystopian part of it is so so smart and to the point, it’s crazy! plus, the plot, the direction, the actors.. just brilliant
Jennifer Lawrence does have a nice voice. She also has a nice everything. HA. But she's legit one of the best actresses of this generation, and is back making movies in force after getting married and having a kid. She elevates this already strong material, especially in the sequel Catching Fire.
I don't know if this is intentional, but I really like how the accommodations for tributes in the capital are so sparse. It's like a reminder that even though they're being allowed to live in luxury, they still can't feel comfortable. Nothing is plush, it's all hard and cold and minimal. Just as minimal as living in district 12, just with more polish.
I'm 100% that person who came to the comments to let you know that The Hunger Games (both the movie and the book) came out quite a while before Fortnite lmao. The book came out in 2008, movie 2012, and Fortnite came out in 2017 lol.
The death you guys were confused about missing was shortly after 1:17:36 where you can hear Thresh yelling. After that, the cannon goes off shortly after and then Thresh's photo appears to show his death (though your edit skipped it so I can't timestamp it)
The commentary is great but please watch more you can’t absorb what you see if you are speaking the whole time. Take your time you assume way too much too early this will literally hinder your subscriptions. Honest non bias advice.
Either pause the movie every time you want to have a full-on discussion/debate or continue to miss major plot points while talking over scenes that LITERALLY answer the questions you're posing. IMHO, annoying and unwatchable...
You all like to mention the online multiplayer game Fortnight and its similarities to the Hunger Games. the movie came out in 2012 as a book adaption that was first published in 2008. Fortnight was first announced in 20011 and was completed in 2017. It seems the Hunger Games was inspiration for Battle Royale games like Fortnight. I would like to see Fortnight style games more like the Hunger Games where survival skills are important and player vs environment vs Ai enemies like the rabid dogs come into play instead of just player vs player.
1:23:03 It is because the Capitol knows how much it depends on the districts that it inhibits communication between the districts. So that they do not rebel against the Capitol. If there is no communication, they cannot plan.
1:07:20 Rue’s death is a major tipping point as Katniss’ actions in laying her to rest are respectful and normal to any human being watching the movie, but in the world of the film it is a political act (not deliberate on Katniss’ part) because it HUMANISES the child. Normally the dead kid is carried away by a drone. But to see her there, with flowers and love - a funeral - it wakes people up. It tells them that yes, the pain in their heart and the thought that this death is WRONG is the right thing to be feeling. And so, riots. Normally they don’t. Everyone is numb to these losses at this point. Rue and Katniss change that. The Capitol uses the children of its citizens to control the population. It’s twisted by design. You want to rebel? Look what happens to 24 of your children every year. Well, what if we did it to all of them? They manipulate hope and condition the people to live in fear from a young age.
First thing it’s ALWAYS been Katniss and Peeta ! Gale an Katniss were very close belt the HG but as friends they were not tougher, maybe he was working his way out the friend zone ( we all been there ) but he was where he was. Then Peeta came along and threw shared, trauma bonding & other reasons you will find out in the coming movies but my boy was always #1 for Miss Everdeen 😂 tho yous loved this movie the next one is universally, loved, and considered the best one ! So please do the rest of the series 🙏🏼
"They copied Fortnite".. This irritated me. The first battle royale game (in modern gaming) was a mod for the game ARMA 3 that came out in 2014. The creator Brendan Green later went on to create PUBG. The first Hunger Games book came out in 2008, and was adapted into this movie that came out in 2012. Fortnite came out in 2017. If anything the games were inspired by the movie. If you want to go even deeper the Japanese movie Battle Roayle came out in 2000. Fortnite wasn't even an original concept in it's own medium.
The sign they do is a sign of respect and a send off of sorts, kind of a “screw you were aren’t applauding” and a showing of respect that she sacrificed herself rather than watch her sister die, which many MANY siblings had done previously as she is the first ever volunteer from 12. In real life, that sign is the Girl Scout Pledge and I don’t know if the author just was a scout and didn’t realize she was using it, or it was intentional. The pledge itself is: On my honor, I will try to serve God and my country, to help people at all times, and to live by the Girl Scout law”
"I'd rather run away and risk potential death instead of certain death" Only a little problem with that: they are both potential, since you might never get picked in the reaping. But also, if they catch you trying to run away you don't get killed, you get turned into a slave and they cut your tongue off. There's a reason people don't escape.
I'm so happy that u guys are watching hunger games can't wait for the next one bc it's the best one. Also idk if u ever will but here's hoping for Twilight 😂
Each district was responsible for a different segment of Panem's economy District 1 Jewelry And Luxury Items District 2 Masonry And Weapons Manufacturing District 3 Electronics District 4 Fishing District 5 Electricity District 6 Transportation District 7 Lumber District 8 Textiles District 9 Grain Production District 10 Livestock District 11 Agriculture District 12 Coal Mining
so interesting, it's the first HG react where there is no compassion whatsoever at least at the start of the movie, like you guys saying you'd volunteer to kill children for money, being exited to see Katniss do violent things... I know it's just movie comenting and not serious thinking but still, first time I hear it and idk if I find it more interesting or scary tbh ^^'
I can’t imagine watching a REACTION to a movie and complaining that they are talking. That’s the POINT of watching a reaction. If you want to watch the movie, watch the movie.
1:26:24 Never heard of this movie? Where were you in 2012? I was a kid, almost a teenager, and people my age talked a lot about this book and movie. It was a topic every semester in my English course. At the time, the only thing I knew was that it was about teenagers fighting in an arena, there were deaths, Rue's death, and the image of Effie in my head. But I only watched it last year.
45:39 youve just been lifted into the arena, theres loot in front of you, time and mystery behind you. this is the most interesting part of the movies to me. the moment of fully understanding what youre up against and trying to make a decision. yalls speculation in this moment makes the video for me, thats where the fun of these movies is for me.
The very special video from the capitol that they are force to watch every single year, that even Gale mimics to Katniss the first words of it, is such a sick propaganda. They make it like this is a choice and a honor to do, it makes me sick every time a see it!
Look at the last Met Gala and compare them to the people in the Capital in this movie. Susan Collins wasn't writing about the future, she was writing about the present.
okay im here to be the comment to officially say that this series came out way before Fortnite (this first movie in 2012 and the book trilogy even before that)
Ok guys, a little bit of history about Panem. It is America after a bunch of natural disasters & famine. Everything was chaotic until the people decided to create some form of government. They created a Capitol & 13 Districts. The governing body is @ the Capitol which is in the Rocky Mountains. The Districts provide goods that r sent to the Capitol & was to be distributed to all the Districts. District 12, Katniss & Peeta's District provides coal, Rue's District 11 is agricultural, & so on.The Capitol became greedy & failed to take care of the Districts so the Districts rebelled. District 13 led the rebellion mainly because they believed they should be in charge. It was a military district. The rebels lost. The Capitol had District 13 leveled that is why there are only 12 Districts, as a punishment the Hunger Games were created. The further away from the Capitol the poorer the District. Peeta genuinely loves Katniss. Katniss & Gale r not together they r just best friends, but he wants more. Katniss doesn't know how she feels about either one. In this, Katniss is 16yrs old, Peeta is the same age/a year younger & Gale is 18yrs old & @ his last Reaping. Katniss' dad died a few months before her 12th birthday & 1st Reaping. So, they had hardly anything when he died. Her mom went into a deep depression & checked out from reality. Katniss learned how to hunt from her dad, but was afraid to be in the woods alone & wasn't that great @ it being 11 almost 12. When Katniss was outside the bakery in the rain she was still 11 & literally starving. Peeta's mom told Katniss to get lost. Peeta knowing Katniss was starving burned the bread because he knew this mom would tell him to feed it to the pigs. He got a couple of whacks from his mom, but @ least gave Katniss 1 of the loaves. She didn't want Peeta in the Hunger Games w/her because she felt she owed him & didn't think she could kill him, if it came down to it. After the Hunger Games, Haymitch's concern for Katniss was genuine. Because after his Hunger Games the Capitol believed Haymitch showed them up, & the Capitol had his family & girlfriend murdered. O, those weird looking dog things in the arena were one of the things they call MUTTS. MUTTS r mutations created by the Capitol. Those MUTTS were engineered by using the eyes of the fallen tributes. In the book, they r much more disturbing. They were werewolf looking w/some features & the eyes of the fallen tributes. Anyway, I really liked the reactions of u guys, & want to see the rest of your Hunger Games reactions.😊
every district is poor but each has different product or service that it supplies the Capitol , 2 makes the weapons, 4 gives them fish, 12 supplies coal and other districts supply other stuff 4 has more food because it has all the fish and districts that have won the games also get supplied with more food also the districts that volunteer can eat as much as they want because they know no matter how many times there name goes that some else is volunteering anyway
@@hayleyhellbound9513 she no longer wants to do things specifically about the games precisely because people want to watch that, and it shouldn't be normal for us to want to see an arena with 48 kids killing each other
could you specify how he used the arena against hs opponent? or it isn´t explained?
@@horrormoviereactionsthe movies made several errors withholding information that was much clearer in the books.
Peeta lost his leg as a result of his injuries in the games, but that is left out of the movie. Being an amputee has an impact on his abilities and how people view him later on. Just something to remember if you see him struggling or people worrying about him!
I need to read the books, i didn't know that peeta lost a leg 🤯
@@abridgedbog7753there's a lot they had to leave out due to time constraints in the movies. Definitely worth a read
This is deff one of those movies I recommend to read the books. The movies are rly good but the books are just superior.@@abridgedbog7753
They also left out that Katniss also lost her hearing in one hear from when she blew up the career’s stash.
I really need to reread the series, I completely forgot Peeta lost his leg.
Book Peeta throughout the entire series is a literal rizz King.
I just remember a lot of whining from him
Book Peeta was amazing and too good for this world. He is my favorite character.
@@Br0nto5aurus Reread. You are remembering incorrectly. Gale is the whiner.
@@Br0nto5aurus a lot of whining ? I just re-read the trilogy and Peeta never does that.
Book Peeta never whines. Gale is the whiner. He whines to Katniss constantly because she doesn’t love him like she loves Peeta🤦🏻♀️
The hand thing is a sign of respect in her district, plus in the book there is a scene in which Katniss receives a parachute from District 11 (Rue's District) with a loaf of bread. This is something that has never happened before, it is rare for some districts to send things to the two competitors in their district, let alone to others.
Especially the poor districts ❤
yes!!! and they didnt put that in movie!!!!
in the book glimmer (that girl that got killed by the tracker jackers), it says that her canon didn‘t go off for a few minutes which means she was alive for a few minutes more.
the hand gesture can be understood as the 3 fingers in the middle representing the united community and the thumb holding over the smallest finger as a gesture that the stronger ones protect the weaker little ones.
This book and movie hold such a special place in my heart ♥️
im really wait that part!!!! but movie.... nothing
So Gale didn't volunteer because Katniss and him made a promise if either one of them is chosen then the other will take care of their family.
That's why the Capitol people have names like Caesar, Seneca and Coriolanus.
which to be fair Hunger Games aren't fully fitting Battle Royale genre
I had never realized that, but it honestly makes a lot of sense. Some of the gladiators were volunteers, but most were slaves being forced to fight. And they fought both other gladiators and animals. I can totally see the parallels!
Actually the first is Stephen King's Running Man.
The second movie is definitely the best. Excited for this trilogy!
Catching fire is my love
Trilogy? There were 4 original films 🤦🏻♂️. Now there are five, so…
“Trilogy”
@@geekgirl616😂
the books are a trilogy. y’all are dumb asf
District 2:
Known for masonry and defense.
Just an FYI guys, first hunger games book was published in 2008. Fortnight was created and released in 2017. Who copied who?
THANK YOU!!!
Because you were talking over it you missed the part where they explained how many times each person has their name in the lottery. Prim only had her name in once, Gale's name was in there 42 times, so his chances were a lot higher than 'next to none' of getting picked.
THATS WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!!! If the guy in the white would stfu, he would understand a whole lot he missed and then keeps what!? Why!?
Yeah, who would've thought that talking constantly throughout a movie would make you miss things?
They're missing everything.
poor Haymitch has to train kids every year and then see them die. No wonder he has ptsd.
y’all talk through the most important parts 😩
ik i hate it
the three fingers sign symbolizes gratitude, love and farewell, is used exclusively in 12 (districts barely have any communication between each other) during funerals if I remember correctly
Those were created genetically with the dna of the fallen tributes..i think.. katniss could see one of them with Rue's eyes 😨
Sorry for my poor english 👉👈
Your English isn’t bad at all❕
Hurts my heart people don't recognize Elizabeth Banks or Lenny Kravitz 😢
Or woody… like cmon
3:35 Mind you whole series Hunger Games have been filmed between North Carolina, Germany and Poland, if you ever want to see some of those infrastructure or nature. This movie's district 12 was specifically filmed in abandoned village side of Hickory NC.
In Poland/Germany Ballad (prequel) was filmed - that what I know. Oryginal trylogy too?
Panem.
“-or, not traumatized just has PTSD” 💀💀💀💀💀
It's not just that it is people. It is CHILDREN. How can a 12yr old girl stand a chance against an 18yr old boy.
Omg all the overlapping convo is so stressful
Thought it was just me. All the overtalking on important details just to miss them and ask/wonder the details later is wild.

Team peeta until the end. Katniss don't need Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred, because she has plenty of fire herself. What she need is dandelion in the spring, the bright yellow one that means rebirth instead of destruction. Only peeta can give her that. And that's what she said.

He intentionally burned the bread (getting a beating from his abusive mom) so he could give it to Katniss when her family was starving to death after her dad died and her mom went cationic in grief. The bread he gave them literally saved their lives because they would have died if they had gone any longer without food.
Peeta literally saved her life❤
Oh wow!! I recommended this last year to you guys! I'm happy you're watching it now!! You'll love it! 🙌🏼
Yuji watching this movie in his training arc : thats my girl right there!! ;)
1:23:28 Haymitch is scared for them. Haymitch has already paid for "defying" the Capitol.
@@0ddkid7 sorry wasnt talking about you directly i just meant it generally
@nope19568 no worries either way :) no harm in conversation
So when Haymitch won, he was in a special anniversary game that they call a quarter quell. In the quarter quells, they make a special rule, and the year that Haymitch won, there were 48 tributes instead of 24. On top of that, every year since, he has been expected to help the tributes from 12 EVERY SINGLE YEAR, and he has watched them die EVERY TIME as well... His story is so much more interesting in the books!
The 3 finger salute is a sign of defiance of the capital but a salute to the other districts in solidarity. It was used in Thailand during their government issues a few years back
The next movie is my favorite!! I grew up with the books and I hope you'll love it
it's the way this man figured the whole thing out 3 min into the reaction: "they are doing everything to take away hope"
To answer your question: No, once you go to the games, you're done, they don't put it back in next year so they can chose them.
Katniss and Peeta are mentors next year just like Haymitch, I can't wait for your next reaction, Catching Fire is brilliant.
Him saying hunger games was based of fortnite almost made me jump off a parking garage

And then all of it, even the name, was inspired by the Japanese movie "Battle Royale" from 2000.
I look forward to your reaction to the next installment! 🤩
I didn't watch The Hunger Games until the summer(or fall) of 2023. Awesome movies! ❤🔥
You guys are going to love the second film. I hope you are able to get version used for imax. The aspect ratio changes in such a cool way.
First thing it’s ALWAYS been Katniss and Peeta ! Gale an Katniss were very close belt the HG but as friends they were not tougher, maybe he was working his way out the friend zone ( we all been there ) but he was where he was. Then Peeta came along and threw shared, trauma bonding & other reasons you will find out in the coming movies but my boy was always #1 for Miss Everdeen
😂 tho yous loved this movie the next one is universally, loved, and considered the best one ! So please do the rest of the series 🙏🏼
Yessss team Peeta🧡💚
The amount of entries goes up the older you get, and your name is added more times also if you take rations from the capital
Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the best movie in cinematic history periodT.
Bruh that was clearly a joke💀
Oh sweetie….
There's a reason people don't escape.
love your reactions ! waiting for the second one already😊
The chances of getting picked are very slim. And yet Prim got picked. Her name was only in there once
I'm so happy that u guys are watching hunger games can't wait for the next one bc it's the best one. Also idk if u ever will but here's hoping for Twilight 😂
Oh finally you reacting to Hunger Games series ✨ hope you continue it and watch Catching Fire and Mockingjay Part 1&2 too🙏🏻
Sir Lenny Kravitz showing that he can fucking act
Funny that they said “it’s like battle royal videogames”, considering the trend of battle royale games literally started because of Huger Games
Each district was responsible for a different segment of Panem's economy
District 1 Jewelry And Luxury Items
District 2 Masonry And Weapons Manufacturing
District 3 Electronics
District 4 Fishing
District 5 Electricity
District 6 Transportation
District 7 Lumber
District 8 Textiles
District 9 Grain Production
District 10 Livestock
District 11 Agriculture
District 12 Coal Mining
so interesting, it's the first HG react where there is no compassion whatsoever at least at the start of the movie, like you guys saying you'd volunteer to kill children for money, being exited to see Katniss do violent things... I know it's just movie comenting and not serious thinking but still, first time I hear it and idk if I find it more interesting or scary tbh ^^'
I can’t imagine watching a REACTION to a movie and complaining that they are talking. That’s the POINT of watching a reaction. If you want to watch the movie, watch the movie.
You should watch "Maze runners " next.
All the sudden y'all are watching all my favorite things. Glad to be back! Happy to see y'alls reactions to the series.
These boys do not stop yapping the whole time, miss things, then yap some more trying to figure out what they missed
Don't watch it then
Yeah, that's reacting. I was more annoyed by the constant stop, start, stop, start of the film - Just play the frickin' movie and react along!!
1:16 sorry. I laughed 😅
okay im here to be the comment to officially say that this series came out way before Fortnite (this first movie in 2012 and the book trilogy even before that)
Pls react to Alice in border land Series...I'm sure you will like it
Very first video of yall's I've seen...can't wait for the next one!!
"There might be some psycho's that volunteer" 😆
every district is poor but each has different product or service that it supplies the Capitol , 2 makes the weapons, 4 gives them fish, 12 supplies coal and other districts supply other stuff 4 has more food because it has all the fish and districts that have won the games also get supplied with more food also the districts that volunteer can eat as much as they want because they know no matter how many times there name goes that some else is volunteering anyway
