  • Last time up to the tent I had to snowshoe across the ice. 4 months later the snow and ice are gone and the Minnesota fishing opener is here. 4 days in one video.

    Hi, Joe!
Hello from Russia! With great pleasure to watch. Nature is very similar to my home. It's amazing to see such a familiar landscape! the general impression that you kilometrov 500, north of Moscow - a few nuances exception. I love the spring time of the year, exactly what are you doing in this video, we will, as a rule, in the beginning of May. Sounds of spring forest, and even the familiar sound of the outboard motor, quiet night, and warm the fresh air. I even remembered the smells that come at this time. Thank you for such an enjoyable experience!
    Good luck! Alexey.

I had a old lab like Max Joe, he lived to the age of 21. great dog, loyal, would watch over our kids. Enjoy the videos. Hunt and fish myself, love the outdoors. I don't have to always catch something, just getting out there is great.

Hi Joe. Sorry to hear about Max's hearing loss. He is a good dog and a great worker.
The tent looks just as great as always. I get so jealous of you, especially when I hear the water. Nothing like crisp clean beauty to soothe the soul.
Thanks for sharing with us once again Joe.

We're in full bloom down here in the Carolinas and I've got so much to do at my cabin, It amazes me that you leave everything in the tent all the time and no one messes with it. What a blessing! The log you "planked" out was White Cedar, Indians used those to make their Totem Poles, the one you are looking for is Eastern Red Cedar aka Aromatic Cedar. The leafy portion of the White cedar looks similar to a Hemlock or Frazier Fir , being somewhat flattened and with the flats areas growing out from either side of the limb, .........on the Eastern Red Cedar the leafy portion is more like what a bottle brush looks like with the actual needles being very small and short and no particular way that the needles are facing as they come out in all directions. Here in Kentucky they are a nuisance tree and denotes nutrient poor soil and being very acidic

+Chris Shinn I am not real good at sitting still very long but I do have moments. I am up to the tent right now as I type this (video coming next week) and I had a few times I sat on the porch for a few minutes looking at the lake. My idea of relaxing today was putting a few hours in walking and looking for deer sign out in the woods and checking the deer stands. I lose myself in that sometimes and my mind shuts off work and stuff. If I sit doing nothing I start thinking about how the guys are doing at work and how I should be there and how the chickens and other animals are doing on the hobby farm etc etc etc lol. Its almost dark out now, I think I will grab a beer and try to find some peace. LOL... Thank you for commenting. Joe

Great stuff. I grew up in Michigan and live in Houston, Texas. Living in the city is good for a paycheck, but not for much else. I am enjoying your property. The sounds of nature never get old. Do you know what gets old(besides us)? Sirens, stereo systems and the sounds of a city, are nothing that I crave. Cheers. The two things that you are missing, in my opinion, are a Martin D-35 and Homemade Beer!

I love your tent videos. They look relaxing. Max looks really sweet and I hope you have him a long time yet in spite of his hearing loss and it looks to me like he has a little trouble getting up from the floor. Black labs are my favorite anyway. I self trained one to be an assist dog for my seizures and I miss her terribly. Tfs

Some much needed R&R getting back up to the tent. Everything is looking good yet. Glad you found yourself a new dock to replace your old one up there. Some very nice sunnies and perch you caught too. I do have to give you kuddos, you can clean them little northern while I can't. lol I don't like them much under 7 pounds myself. It's sad that Max has lost his hearing. It will be nice to see what kind of video you make for him if you do that. Take care Joe and keep them videos coming.

Great vid. It just doesn't get any better than that. Max is cool. Couple things on your braid which I just found out recently. It's the thin diameter most likely that is giving you bail issues. It's most critical to match the diameter of your line on a baitcaster rather than breaking strength. That's why the guys use 50# braid on their baitcasters for bass fishing...it has the diameter of 12# mono. Fireline braid has a radial construction that'll work great for you. Also, as an open face spinning reel guy, (and I don't know if it's the same for you baitcaster guys) I have to load up my spool with some mono first and then tie the braid to it using a couple fisherman's knot's. Because the braid is so mush thinner (and more expensive) it would take all of 300 yards to fill to that optimal 1/8" on the spool. I'll look forward to your next excursion!

Buck Fifty Thank you, that makes perfect sense. I will get some different line. I have never got the hang of the spinning reel, it always feels backwards or something to me lol. I use my bait caster for casting and a closed face for off the dock. Thank you for the tip on the line, its greatly appreciated. Joe

I am not a tent person at all. But this is great. Best tent I've ever seen ...I could actually camp in this for longer than a few days ...:)
