    I noticed that there was an overflow outlet in the basin, so why didn’t the waste have the necessary slots to accommodate?

    Thank you for posting - especially the direction of the undersink gasket. For DIY folks out there, use plumbers tape on the threads to prevent small leaks.

    I wish all the DIY videos where this clear and easy to understand. I'm swapping out a vessel sink and didn't think to note the order of the gaskets. I've searched all over the web for some instructions and here you are. But I have to agree with some of the other posts, Teflon tape and plumbers putty can be helpful for stopping leaks.

    This is exactly my leaky drain unit. Thank you for the video. Whether or not I use plumber's putty between the bowl of the sink and the push mechanism in place of the 1st silicone ring at 1:18 is another matter.

      I decided to use plumber's putty and there is no leak after reassembly.

    Thank you for the absolute excellent clear instructions! I see there is no need for plumber's putty, even better. And below some suggests plumbers tape on the threads. Thanks for posting, really great instructions!

    Thank you, you helped me out. I had the bottom rubber gasket upside down and it was causing a slow leak. I watched your video, and made the correction, and now everything works.

    Just received two of these drains today with no instructions. Thank you for a clear video as to where all the gaskets go! So frustrating getting all these parts with no direction on where to put them. Only thing missing was the plumber's tape, otherwise well done.

    Great tutorial! Did everything they did but I did use Teflon tape for the threads. I did not use plumbers putty. It works like a champ.
    Full disclosure it did leak at first but that’s because I didn’t tighten down the nut to the stopper good enough. After that it worked great!

    Thanks! This was nice and clear and I'm glad you mentioned the proper orientation of the plastic gaskets.

    I also note that the instruction sheet from Riobel suggests you apply caulking between the gasket and sink...both upper and lower. and teflon tape on the threaded piece. Does not seem necessary to me.

    Just got to this video. I have the exact same pop-up drains in a double vanity. I installed both and both leaked. I'm pretty sure they both leaked at the threads, so here I came on youtube checking to see if I need thread tape/compound and/or putty. I'm surprised this video didn't mention anything about putty. I put some putty on the drain tube, just below the top flange AND a generous amount of pipe thread compound. 1 hour in and no leaks so far. :)

    • @kellerrobert80
      @kellerrobert80 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. Pipe dope on the threads underneath (and the nut) would be best-practice. Typically, dope is a lubricant not a sealant.

    • @ahxpluhh
      @ahxpluhh 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      kellerrobert80 hi what brand pipe dope would you recommend?

    • @kellerrobert80
      @kellerrobert80 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've been watching too many plumbing videos, and the best plumbers seem to use both "thick" Teflon tape and extra-strength pipe dope: Oatey Hercules 15806 Megaloc pipe dope (sku 554499 US$11.20 at Home Depot) and Hercules 15100 or 15102 or 15120 Oatey Megatape Professional PTFE Tape (Amazon for about US$9.00). I'm sure others will work, but as a DIY-er, this combo has never failed me. No, I get no money from Oatey--their kinda pricey stuff just seems to work.

    It appears that the sink has an overflow hole. The drain that you're installing appears to be for sinks without an overflow. Am I seeing this wrong or did you install the wrong type of drain in that sink?

    • @richardberends7792
      @richardberends7792 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That drain definitely didn't have overflow ability

    • @vagstephanou_videos

      Came here after doing the same mistake, buying the wrong type of drain, which definitely leaks when water goes down the overflow.
      Going to buy a new one tomorrow.

    nice clear video. My question relates to what drain size to purchase. I'm looking at a sink with a 1.75" drain hole. It looks like the pop up drain needs to be slightly smaller than the sink hole from your video. Are there tolerances I need to know about and adhere to? thx

    • @Victor-cj9ie
      @Victor-cj9ie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      He did not use silicone sealant around the gaskets (top or bottom) or teflon tape around the threaded portion of the pipe that mates to the head of the drain assembly. The gaskets alone will not provide a leak-proof seal..
