- India's active role in advocating for women peacekeepers and engaging in peacekeeping missions from Liberia to Democratic Republic of Congo showcases its commitment to women’s leadership in this area. Yet, the struggle for peace and the mainstreaming of the women, peace, and security agenda require continuous effort and a collective commitment.
Ambassador Lakshmi Puri is former Assistant Secretary General, United Nations, and Deputy Executive Director, UN WOMEN. Prior to her fifteen-year stint at the United Nations, she served as an Indian diplomat for 28 years.
WISCOMP (Women in Security, Conflict Management and Peace) is a pioneering South Asian research and training initiative that foregrounds leadership of women in peace and security and promotes cultures of pluralism and coexistence in the region.
