Can't put a price on some repairs

  • This lovely looking bay window came into us for a refresh and to sort out a few small rust repairs. With a few cracks in filler on the chassis legs, we had to remove the filler to asses how bad it really was. Unfortunately this small rust repair and spray job quickly escalated into a full on lower front end restoration.

Been there done that a couple of decades ago. Never again. However more recently, have a 2001 Golf V6 4MOTION from 2017 similar to the one in the channel. The rear bumper cover is scratched a bit & the colour is slightly different if one's being ocd. Had a leak on rear right light sill. The light gasket seal was missing. So obviously there was a bodge bumper & light fighting change and the brainiac doing the repair conveniently forgot the gasket. Lucky I picked it up in a few weeks of ownership after washing the car. New gasket was NZD60 at the time. I could have got a used one at Pick-a-Part for NZD2 probably. To be honest you have to go around a car with a magnet and inspect all seams & welds thoroughly to check if repair was done & secondly whether it was done properly. Many shops neglect the 2nd part to save costs where the owner doesn't have the skill to check workmanship properly. Moreover insurance companies should have post inspections as they do when they inspect/audit pricing of repairs. It will definitely keep a load of dodgy cars off the road & put dodgy panelbeaters out of business. I suppose MOT does the same thing as well. 😂 2nd hand cars can be a nightmare especially non-Honda or Toyota. Good to see you smiling again mate. Cheers from Auckland.
