      Alain it is possible. I don’t have a degree and had no experience when I got into HR. So far I’ve been in for five years and have worked for large corporate companies like UPS, SuperValu, Travelers, US Bank and many others. I currently make the rate of someone with a masters degree. My advice is to utilize staffing agencies. My first HR job was secured by my introducing myself to the HR Specialist for company that I was working fit at the time. I came in as an office coordinator and asked her to teach me things. She did and three months later she left the company and urged me to apply. I did and got the job. I was blessed because I had the opportunity to do full cycle HR. It was helpful, even to this day as I move through my HR journey ❤️ I love it!

    I transitioned my career into HR years after getting my bachelor. I was tired of the same oI admin job. I got a cert in HR (through a school program, not the individual study carts organization). After getting I spoke to everyone I met in my company and said Hello I’m trying to get into HR what do I need to do is any position hiring in any department. I was even considering leaving my current company. After almost a year I finally got into HR. I’m a recruiting coordinator and I cannot wait to grow and learn everything in HR.

    Lol. I just stumbled on your videos for the second times, and thank you for sharing. I have an AS of science, and a BA in Business Administration. I recently completed some soft skills online training, and I also did some training for HR Management online. At this point, I was gearing toward HR because naturally speaking, I feel I have the HR skills to succeed in the role, and I want to make an impact in other's lives in that level. I want to represent the company I work for very well as well the employees I represent, where they would feel comfortable talking to me about the issues they're having at work: To use, and apply the law to serve my company, and my employees to the best of my ability. I was working at a place, I remembered having a wonderful HR. I said to myself, if I ever get into HR, this is the person I would want emulate. I would want my employees to find in me what I couldn't find in my HRs.

    I have zero college experience and spent the past almost 19 years in industries that are heavily focused on "Customer Service" but spending most my life in California, I kept up with California Labor Laws (and won lawsuits against employers) because they were mistreating myself and/or co-workers. I've always liked the idea of being in Human Resource Management but just found it crazy hard to get out of my Automotive Repair Industry and into a professional "corporate" setting.

    I am trying to transition into HR. I am graduating with a B.A. in Psychology in September and am enrolled in the M.S. for HRM starting in October at my school. I’m transitioning from customer service/operations, and I’m finding it extremely difficult.
    Once I realized I wasn’t having any luck with HR Assistant or Coordinator positions, I have began applying for internships with little luck as most of them either want someone with some experience or education in HRM. I did take a few courses as electives, and I do mention this on my resume, but, since I am looking at remote work, these positions are already highly competitive and I’m just not matching up to the competition yet. Hopefully I can get an internship or volunteer experience under my belt soon. I think that will really help. I’m staying hopeful! I was responsible for some HR functions in my previous positions, particularly recruiting, so I’m looking into TA as an entry into the field as well.

      Hi Senor, the most important step you can take right now is to network and refresh your education on HR related topics. This could be in the form of a class or certificate in effort to determine whether you're still interested in HR. May I ask, what aspect of HR you're most familiar with? Feel free to send me an email at yonica@hrgirl411.com.

    Hey, your videos are super helpful specially for me as a student. I would like to know what other degrees can get you into HR that are not psychology, management or business.

    • @HRGirl411

      I have seen some individuals with degrees in the arts and law that have transitioned very well in the field. It's more about what your goals are because honestly there are a lot of people out there who are not working in the field that matches their degree. People change and evolve throughout time. So you can begin volunteering and networking to let people know that you are interested in the HR field.

      I’m currently a college student earning my bachelors in Journalism and have been exploring the field of HR. I’ve been looking at possibly getting a certification in HR online. Do you have any recommendations or tips that you can give me to help further explore the world of HR?

    • @HRGirl411
      @HRGirl411  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lindsaygriffin There is one certification (aPHR) that you can obtain without having any experience in HR. However, prior to investing in a certification, try to work in the profession, even if it's at a small capacity to see if it's something you would like to continue pursuing.

    I am looking to move to hr. I have worked as a supervisor for the last 6 years but I am looking to make a change in my career. I am in the process of going back to school for a degree in hr, and should graduate in 2 years. What do you think are some challenges moving from a people leader to Hr?

    • @HRGirl411
      @HRGirl411  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think people who already have leadership skills have a special edge. The reason why is you already know what it takes to be a leader and you can relate to the managerial staff in the organization. You’ll be in a strategic position to drive the organization to the next level through HR combined with your leadership experience.

I worked as a claims examiner for disability benefits and not sure this is considered some HR experience. I am 43 yo. and cannot afford to do an internship. I am in los angeles ca. and schools expensive and my mastrs was difficult already I am not wanting to get certificate. I get bored easily and creative and wondering if HR is exciting and creative. I have th PHR book but struggling to read through it not fun. Did you take it if so, how difficult and how many questions, what topics ? remember the labor laws and dates is tough

      I have my certification through SHRM. I've taken both the HRCI & SHRM. I personally feel the SHRM certification is easier.

    • @HRGirl411
      @HRGirl411  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was studying for the SHRM-CP last year and the information was great. It was like a consolidation of resources for me. Honestly it was less boring in the study group because I attempted to study on my own and I only fell asleep and never finished. Studying can be boring but working in HR is never boring. There is always something to learn. And considering you’re in the state of CA; wow, you will never be bored. There are so many state, local and federal laws you have to keep track of. You can totally make that switch over into HR with your existing degrees and experience. Definitely pursue it.

    I actually acquired my Master's in HR without any practical experience in the field and did very well. I would say that my work/life experiences aided me in completing the program and would venture to say my transferrable skills would further assist me in being successful in the industry. However, I am having the hardest time getting a job in the field, due to lack of experience - you know that dreaded cycle of needing experience but not getting experience if no one will hire you.

I’m like just hire and teach me I’m willing to learn as much as possible and I would gain the experience.
