If you can , Look at lowering the queen bed down a bit, and fill in under for storage for cloths etc, fit a couple of solar panels on the roof and a second battery for the camper exclusively, also buy a small bbq, cook outside when ever possible, keeps the inside cooler , and no cooking smells that linger.
Good luck , lived in a caravan for 4 years , and now we go away every 3 months for 1 to 2 weeks .
    Cheers from Australia

I agree, roof leaks and wood rot. If there is any musty smell at all, wood rot needs to be investigated. Best do it now while you are renovating. Especially check the shower area too, as well as leaks from the roof to wall joins.

We have the same truck & have been told that the motor is bullet proof. If the rest of the truck was totaled, we should keep the motor!
We bought a 22' trailer for $7,000 at an auction about 8 years ago, & spent a month & an extra $1,000 to fix up the water damage that we couldn't see before we were in possession of it. We still love the trailer & it still suits us. It pays to be thorough with your inspection, but it's worth it. Enjoy the process & put your mark on it!

Before I could legally drive I took the 8 track out of my first car and put it in my bedroom so I could listen to the 8 tracks an older sister had left behind. Cassettes seemed so modern and small by comparison when they came out.

Consider a separate thermostat on the AC. When on cool you set the hot/cold knob it will run to a set low temp output, then run the fan(not cooling) and then cycle back on the compressor but stay running. They aren't quiet so you can simply wire the external thermostat to have it run more "traditionally" so it will shut off when desired temp is reached.

You have entered a new and exciting world! There are numerous RV channels on youtube with an enormous amount of information and advice. Billy is 100% correct on the truck. Cummins diesel 5.9's are extremely reliable and sturdy. As I have some experience in the truck and camper are I would like to give you a little advice. Slide-in campers are top heavy so keep heavy items low. Upgrade your trucks suspension to have the heavyest front and rear swaybars you can find. Has your Cummins had the "KILLER DOWEL PIN" serviced? I strongly suggest adding a "Wicked Wheel" to your turbo. It will improve your torque and fuel milage. Do a full service on the transmission before heading out. Add a large transmission cooler. Service all wheel bearings and brakes. I hope the tires you bought are "E" load rated because the truck will aways have a load. Knowing what you are used to I expect you will be boondocking quite a bit. I could go on and on but you two know how to live simply. I'm looking forward to the fixup videos then the travel adventures. See you in the next one. Dave

Good video. I like the short update videos. Even if your not doing things that are particularly "exciting" it's fun to stay up to date with what you guys are doing. I mean sice I've been watching your lives on video for 3 years or so.. it's always fun to see what y'all are up to. 😁👍

You should put a TPO or PVC roof on top of it. That's what commercial buildings use for a flat roof membrane. To install it, watch some videos but it requires glue and heat.

Kind of like "planes trains and automobiles" with you guys!
Sail boat (mono), Trawler, catamaran. Now a truck camper. I can't wait to see the fix-up video's, that's my favorite.
95% perspiration, 5% inspiration mixed with a lot of ambition. Hopefully I'll see you in the cockpit of an aircraft soon.
    PERFECT, JUST PERFECT!

The truck sat for a year and he got it running....yep, I would love that truck too. I had a 93 Dodge diesel and it was slow. Then, in 2004 I bought a Ford 6.0 diesel, but it had engine issues. I look back at that and wish I would have bought a Dodge.

Love it! "What's a cassette player?" I just lost it. 😂 Love driving through the middle of Florida! In March on the way home to Canada with our big tri, we took the Scenic Road west out of Stuart then headed north. It's a whole other view of the state with big ranches and even hills (!) in the north. Cheers, Carleen and Jim

I've heard you can take essence of peppermint and diluted in a little water and then spray down your engine area every few months and that keeps the rats at Bay.

Tool Time with Sierra and Billy! LOL! Pimp my RV! Oh you two crazy sailors are now going to be rockin it with the retirees at the RV Park! Shuffle board any one?
So cool you have the Skills and Tools to rebuild and refresh the truck camper! All the knowledge of rebuilding 3 boats is going to pay off!
Get some flex seal for the roof to keep water out! RV;s/ Campers are notorious for leaks around AC/Windows/Hatchs! Can't wait to Sierra do the remodel! LOL!
Cheers and One Ol Big shot of BEEF STOCK courtesy of Nick! o,o

My f250 diesel sat for 20 years while I went cruising, poped the hood and had a possim staring at me! new batteries, tires, brake lines, fired it up and drove it home on 20 yr old diesel! Working on the camper now, the whole plumbing system leaks, fridge dont work and ya casset player!(you can buy a casset that has a wire that hangs out of it and plugs into your phone for music) I love my old truck!

Your dodge truck was the best truck ever made. I put 300k miles on 3 of them on the farm pulling trailers, heavy work and rough roads without any engine problems. I would trade any new truck for one if they only made the same truck today.

Do not give up the Dodge! For any reason. For anybody. The Dodge stays!
You might say I sound a little partial?. I have a Dodge 3500 dually 1994 I'm in love with that thing! It'll be the last truck I ever own!!!
Back about four years ago I decided to go truck shopping. Came back and sticker shock. Then said I better spend some money on the truck that I already have! 14000 into it and still saving a bunch!
