I'm surprised that few people ever talk about how well Parker plays with rhyme and meter in their songs. There's always a flow to me that's reminiscent of hip hop and no one ever talks about it.
As a huge fan of late 90s early 2000s pop-punk (blink, Sum 41, zebrahead, etc.), TSSF is one of my absolute favorite pop-punk bands and one of very few 2010s pop-punk bands that I love.
Just make sure when you're judging live performances that you're in the crowd cause you're never going to get a good sounding vocal on a phone microphone
The story so far is one of my favorite bands! Please take a look at the following songs by them: Swords and pens, Things I can’t change, and The Glass. Love your videos! Keep it up!
Awesome break down. I love TSSF. "Hook Monster" is a perfect way to describe this song. Overstepping - Belmont In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3 - Coheed and Cambria Those would be awesome songs to hear a breakdown of
Really interesting thing about TSSF is the songs are generally in really simple 4/4 time, but with interesting rhythms and syncopation in the vocals and guitars
TSSF is a band you can always fall back on, such an easy and good listen. Would love for you to check out and react to some of these: Dance Gavin Dance - into the sunset / Count Bassy / man of the year The Dear Hunter - Look Away / The Revival / Mustard Gas / The Tank
Fucking LOVE this track! It really hits all the buttons for me. These guys are bringing quality melodic punk back in a big way. They just have something special about them.
They're really good at bringing these rhythmic aspects to their music, there's a lot of downstroke strumming and the drummer and bass player accentuate the strumming patterns so well.
So glad to see you branch out a bit and do a video on TSSF. You should check out the band Tiny Moving Parts, they're a math rock/ midwest emo band. Great guitar parts to dissect.
One lesser known band that I think is massively underrated is Youth Fountain. Some songs off their new album that I think would be good are Scavenger and Dark Grey.
I’ve had youth fountain on repeat like crazy while driving around late midnights. Amazing band. Discovered them couple months ago. I was 16 when I discovered tssf . I’m now 28 ha. They still killing it.
The Dear Hunter please! A Night on the Town is the usual go to react, but I’d love to see a reaction to The Lake and the River as well. Can’t get enough of your reactions!
Theyre from my home state, and a city I lived in for a while, while I agree theyre talented, I've never been able to get into them, they sound so incredibly generic to me, I've seen them many times because they played with so many good local bands, no hate.
The best part of nerve is of course the melody. But when you get into it (with the line "you set your pace, i keep mine too) really means a lot. Even the rhythm shows that. Separate the vocal rhythm from the guitar rhythm. They set and keep their own paces. I dont know if they even meant to do that
I like that you're diving into different types of rock geebz. I haven't seen a rec of this band yet on the channel but if you wanna hear modern psychedelic/electronic with great production you must listen to tame impala. They are quite famous but it is essentially one man, Kevin Parker, who writes, records and produces/engineers everything. I am a fan of many of the bands you have featured so far but I think you would dig this change of pace. You should start with either elephant, let it happen, apocalypse dreams or expectations
Still here! Fingers crossed for some Alkaloid (maybe "Carbon Phrases"?)...other bands to plug: Obscura, Ulcerate, Cynic, Into the Moat, Fallujah, Necrophagist, Cult of Luna, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Dimmu Borgir, Children of Bodom, Virvum, Blotted Science... :)
I like TSSF and always thought their music was unique. A lot of reaction TH-camrs sort of oversell their experience but I really appreciate your more technical and theory focused reactions as I think it’s a great niche that isn’t filled by many here. So thank you for your content! I’d love to see you react to Code Orange’s “Swallowing the Rabbit Hole”, Body Count’s “All Love is Lost”, or Such Gold’s “Storyteller”. (But especially Code Orange) Mahalo!
Suggestions: Slice The Cake - Stone And Silver Part 1 - The Mountains of Man Textures - Awake Slice The Cake - Unending Waltz Slice The Cake - Westward Bound Part I - The Lantern Dance Gavin Dance - Blue Dream Emarosa - The Past Should Stay Dead Slipknot - Vermilion
Have you thought about outsourcing your list making? One option would be making a public google sheets document that anyone can edit and having them add their suggestions themselves. This obviously involves a certain level of trust, but it has been shown to work on Critical Reactions' channel. One downside would be the list may grow much faster, another that many commenters will likely never find out about the system and continue commenting their suggestions into the abyss where they may not be counted. Just a thought I had, as I know that the list is going to be a growing problem for you. Even if its a good problem to have, it's always better to work smart than work hard. Love the videos and want you to be able to make as many as possible.
Love your videos. Refreshing take on music reactions and definitely how I analyse music too! I'd recommend Hurt by Nine Inch Nails. Interesting sounds and production techniques in that one, and just a great song in general.
It’d be cool to see what you’d have to say about Within the Ruins’ song “Domination”. Always interested in hearing your observations. Blessings, my dude. 🤙🏻 Also: still here! And I won’t stop commenting this until you finally do it! 😁
Love this. I will say as a huge tssf fan with this being one of my favs, the “it be” line has always bothered me lol I get why he did it like that but even still haha
I'd love to see you react to Billy Talent. Preferably a song like "Red Flag", "Louder Than The DJ" or "Fallen Leaves". Awesome Punk/Emo band from Canada with great technical guitar riffs, bass lines that really pop out in the songs, drums that punch and the vocalist is full of energy as well. Think like a more punk version of Geddy Lee.
derek from state champs has a voice that's somewhat similar to parker's (similar in terms of like strength and stuff like that) and i think you should check them out if you haven't already!
I know this is an old video but it seemed like a good place to make this request. You should check out the song Brain Pain by Four Year Strong. Or really any song off of that album.
Don't know if you have reacted or listened to the band I'm about to request, if not I highly recommend you listen to Ne Obliviscarus. They are an Australian band.
I like The Story So Far and a ton of other bands you've featured on here, in fact you inspired me to get reacquainted with Porcupine Tree for the first time in years, but it'd be rad if you checked out Slave Species of the Gods or pretty much any other track from Blood Incantation.
Aloha, still here! Not my cup of tea but like your reviews. Recycle Katatonia - Heart Set To Divide, Behind The Blood, Lacquer, Rein, The Winter Of Our Passing (first 5 songs off City Burials. For something new, Gothic doom metal Draconian - Sorrow Of Sophia, Sleepwalkers, Sacrificial Flame. Am I on the list Geebz?

One of his influencers is Eminem so it makes sense.
Oh trust me, people talk about it all the time. Especially how great his flow was in their first album when he was like 18.
@@metalboy27 check out belmont or hot mulligan, theyre on the same level of tssf for me anyways
now if only we could get Parker to do this good live...
00:56 that face says it all
WOW wasn't expecting TSSF on here lol, fun
this channel always surprises me!
I got the same reaction haha
Same!
🤣🤣🤣
They're so underrated, Proper Dose is such a banger of an album.
Every song on Proper Dose is good. Need to Know and If I Fall are my favorite songs.
Underrated??? Theyre probably thr #1 most popular pop punk band lol
@@matttyler9963 not even close. They don’t even have 1 million on Spotify. Seriously underrated.
Their whole legacy a banger
Self titled is best 😎
Parker has the best voice in all of popular music. What a hell of a voice!
Parker has the best STUDIO voice.
In the concert he cannot sing as in records and it's really bad.
@@matteoiommi7844 in person he can still hit the notes but the sustain and drive isn’t quite there imo
Just make sure when you're judging live performances that you're in the crowd cause you're never going to get a good sounding vocal on a phone microphone
Hes a great vocalist but has nothing on jeremy mckinnon . Nobody does
Love this band. Their album The Proper Dose has been on repeat for weeks
The story so far is one of my favorite bands!
Please take a look at the following songs by them: Swords and pens, Things I can’t change, and The Glass.
Love your videos! Keep it up!
Awesome break down. I love TSSF. "Hook Monster" is a perfect way to describe this song.
Overstepping - Belmont
In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3 - Coheed and Cambria
Those would be awesome songs to hear a breakdown of
Overstepping by Belmont is such a crazy cool track. Awesome stuff.
Dude these are both in my top 10 songs of all time
Really interesting thing about TSSF is the songs are generally in really simple 4/4 time, but with interesting rhythms and syncopation in the vocals and guitars
Aloha, Unko!
This was one of the pivotal bands in my teen years! Love that they are making their way to you.
Mahalo from Oregon!
Cheeee Huuuuu Moose! :)
Gem of a video
I love this band! Being an audiophile, I bought all of their vinyl LP's and love their new album!
awesome takes on an awesome song
TSSF is a band you can always fall back on, such an easy and good listen. Would love for you to check out and react to some of these:
Dance Gavin Dance - into the sunset / Count Bassy / man of the year
The Dear Hunter - Look Away / The Revival / Mustard Gas / The Tank
Yes! Man of the Year is great
Dude the dear hunter is such a deep band one of the best of all time in my opinion
Dance Gavin dance also amazing 🤘
Oof I also second The Dear Hunter. Such an amazing band with amazing production in their songs
Fucking LOVE this track! It really hits all the buttons for me. These guys are bringing quality melodic punk back in a big way. They just have something special about them.
Not sure how I missed this, but super glad you reacted to it! You never fail to somehow make your way through my whole playlist haha
You’re the GOAT for this one
Great break down of points in this video, really enjoyed it
Please do more like this!
They're really good at bringing these rhythmic aspects to their music, there's a lot of downstroke strumming and the drummer and bass player accentuate the strumming patterns so well.
I think that was the first thing that made them stand out to me! Love it
Death - Flesh and the Power it Holds
I’m all for Death. Chuck was a master of a songwriter.
Fantastic suggestion!
Yes anything by Chuck Schuldiner would be great. He was very....third eye purple level xD
Yes please do this! This could definitely be my favorite Death song.

DIr En Grey - Vinushka
You won't be disappointed ;)
Thanks for all the bands you are checking and your productivity, it is impressive.
So. Happy. That you delved a little into TSSF :)!!!
First pause he gets an angry finger point perfect
The Dear Hunter please! A Night on the Town is the usual go to react, but I’d love to see a reaction to The Lake and the River as well. Can’t get enough of your reactions!
You might actually dig Four year strong .. similar pop punk sound but their first album is really unique and technical for the genre.
Theyre from my home state, and a city I lived in for a while, while I agree theyre talented, I've never been able to get into them, they sound so incredibly generic to me, I've seen them many times because they played with so many good local bands, no hate.

TSSF hits different
I know I'm biased but this song is easily a top 10 song of all time. The song to me is the peak of punk/pop punk.

This isn't a live recording. This is from the album. Almost everything you watch on youtube nowadays is prerecorded audio, kind of like a music video.

great take on TSSF. They are so solid. Almost too sophisticated for their actual audience....
Most of their audience are musicians mostly of the same genre so nah lol
