Little fun fact for you: The spoken word part, on the album version, is done by the vocalist from a band called Sikth Named Mikee Goodman. However, Spencer has his own version he can do in the live versions which is also pretty deep and growly just like the recording. Sikth was a big influence on many of the members of Periphery including spencer so that collaboration was very special for them.

    • @DrAgNZRX

It's weird to think that weird little band I saw supporting mad capsule markets in 2002 ended up influencing so many bands

Honestly, even though I personally like their heavier albums like “one” and “Polaris” a little more than “altered state”...
Altered state is THE album to start with for a new listener in my opinion. It will get you hooked looking for more, at least it did for me.
Interesting note ab the singers: Altered state has a separate singer from their other albums. Both singers are great in their own ways, much like each of their albums as overall sonic pieces of work, respectively, they are each pretty unique from one another, yet still tremendous!
Tbh, I didn’t vibe with them too much at first, but now I literally don’t skip any of their songs when they come on shuffle.
This is definitely one of those bands where their most popular songs aren’t my favorite, but I still love all of their music, if that makes sense lol.

Geebz - if this is your thing.... you need to check out their double album. Juggernaut Alpha / Omega. That is a complete journey. Super dark, super emotive... hard to listen to at times, but redemptive in the end. Basically its the journey of a cult member from the time of a child, through adulthood - realizing its wrong, trying to break away, being damned to hell, clawing his way back to punish the evil leaders and eventually being "reborn/redeemed". Its probably my all time favorite prog metal album. Not saying you should react to it - but you will enjoy it for the journey... but be prepared - it is super dark in places. ....... It simply can’t. Even reaction channels with 1mil+ subs who especially focus on music will never be able to monetize their channels cuz every single video of his gets copyright striked, which isn’t a penalty or anything, it just means that the label is now allowed to place ads and collect that revenue. It even happens to my channel and I have less than 200 subs and I’m covering the songs on guitar, playing over them at a pretty loud volume and sometimes even adding my own parts for songs that for example have no guitar riffs in the verse or something and I still get claimed. So we (this channel and mine) can never monetize with the use of Adsense or any mid-video ads.
But yes, he should have a silver TH-cam Play button by now and it’s fucked up that he doesn’t. TH-cam pretty much sucks balls. Oh he is getting to the point where he can get sponsored, like by Raid Shadow Legends...I know that everyone reading this has seen a video sponsored by them lol. Those can bring in a decent 💰. been watching you for a few months now and i absolutely love your genuine, un-edited reactions / takeaways from the compositions. Don't change a thing!!!!

Just gonna let you know Geebz. They don't have a single bad song. Every single one is a masterpiece and they don't just make half assed filler tracks.

this is 100% true. i can't pick a peripery track i "don't like" hahahaha. every track sits on the album perfectly in it's place. their leitmotif that spans almost all the records isn't something a lot of bands do these days anymore. 10/10 amazing band.

I still dont get into Crush, am not the biggest fan of the Clear EP and feel like a few tracks of P1 are not that great anymore because of Spencers cleans (in comparison). But apart from that I absolutely agree. Best discography of any band I know!

@@synthtonic4954 I actually love the Clear EP. As far as P1 goes, it sounds like a different band to me and it's not as easy to recall the songs from memory but the whole lp is like a journey. The more I listen the more I get from it.

This entire album is phenomenal. I hope you've had the chance to listen to it in all of it's glory. Their best work yet, in my opinion.

    Reptile awwwright!
"I'm havin a blast" if you want this to continue, do Have a Blast! ;) featuring Guthrie Govan!
    Also Scarlet, their catchiest song.
As interesting as these more elaborate compositions are, I find that the most memorable Periphery songs are the shorter catchier ones like Make Total Destroy and Marigold (and my 2 suggestions), and they are the ones I play again, unfortunately it's a short list.

I heavily suggest reacting to From the Sky or Caravan by Protest the Hero if you wanna see similar music journey. Bloodmeat is an amazing song by them but its super old, I would love to see you react to how they've matured

You remind me so much of my high school band/theory director and it's so awesome man. You make amazing content and I honestly watch at least one of your videos a day (I'm new to your channel) and I LOVE the way you break songs down to their core. It puts me right back into class and piecing together brass with woodwind with percussion and it's just rad man. Thanks for all you do
