- Welcome to a Tweed Valley MTB special... Ever wondered how the fast mountain bike riders manage to hit the trails faster? Ever wondered if an average rider can ride UK trails faster? In this video we look at former National Enduro Champion Gary Forrest's tips to riding some of the Tweed Valley's finest trails faster. The video is set in Glentress forest, on three famous trails - Zorro, Thunderstruck and Careless Whisper.
Gary shows us the difference that basic line choice can make out on UK enduro trails and shows you that line choice can make even the most average riders even quicker.

The video was shot on a GoPro Hero 10 mounted on the chin of an Endura MT500 helmet using a Gnartec mount.

Ha ha, me too! I've ridden that bit on Thunderstruck so many times - didn't even know middle was an option. It looks sketchy as when you are there but it is actually really rideable. Good luck in the race!

@@streetpigeonmtb Hi Jamie, I'm definitely more at the cowardly or lacking in skill end. My normal riding is Yorkshire cross country , and Gisburn forest and Hamsterley and Dalby forest. Lining up a Scotland trip for the summer. So Glentress and Gypsy Glen are on my list. Will be over to Whinlatter in the lake district and Llandegla in North Wales in the next couple of months.
Are the trails on here as steep as Golfie? Your video of Golfie when you were dehydrated was definitely beyond me!😅
Ah nice. Sounds like you've got some good spots nearby! I would definitely say Glentress is a bit easier than the Golfie overall. It doesn't make it less fun though. The Golfie does have some fairly tame stuff if you know where you are going. Give me a shout closer to your trip if you need any route tips or anything. I'd be happy to try and help you out 👍

Great stuff Jamie. Particularly enjoyed watching the lines ion Thunderstruck and Careless Whisper after having ridden them with you. They look much more straight forward on camera than when you arrive there completely blind!

I know! That one on Thunderstruck was the one that surprised me the most. I've ridden past it a hundred times and never even noticed it. Talented riders just see the trails in a different light. It's very inspiring. Thanks for taking time to comment 🙂

Cheers Alan! I'm really glad you liked the format. We made a conscious decision this year to mix it up a bit. I'll not be changing all the vids but I'm definitely going to keep trying to make the content varied for you guys.
I should've been racing... But my wife and I messed up the calendar and I am now solo dadding this weekend. Gutted, but it'll be cool to check out the racing with the kids 😁
