The Mexican restaurant Mitla Cafe inspired Taco Bell's hard-shell tacos. The cafe's menu added tacos in 1951, and their kitchen staff would stuff ground beef into corn tortillas, deep fry them, and top them with cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. Mitla Cafe's hard-shelled ground beef taco is listed as "Taco" in the "A La Carte" section of the menu, where diners can specify "hard-shelled" and "ground beef". Hard shell tacos are likely an adaptation of tacos dorados, a traditional Northern Mexican dish of soft tortillas that are rolled or pinched shut and fried until crispy. In the early 20th century, crispy tacos became popular in California and Texas immigrant communities, and some Mexican chefs patented devices to help shape and fry tortillas into hard taco shells.

I don't care what anyone says these style tacos are good. Im usually making or buying street style tacos but I still crave these and make them from time to time.
You're right. Being of Mexican descent, I can honestly say that sometimes, maybe once or twice a year, I get a craving for white people tacos. I wouldn't go as far as to call them tacos, but they're good for what they are. Maybe salad in a shell? 😂
So often people get hung up on whether something is authentic and not whether it's good, there are plenty of foods that are only vague facsimiles of something else, either because they were attempts to make that thing but having to use what was locally available OR through convergent culinary paths (eg lots of cultures have a form of pastry stuffed with savoury or sweet fillings. Samosas, Empanadas, Cornish Pasties, Pierogi, Gyoza etc etc because it's just a super convenient form factor for a meal on the go.) but are pretty good in their own right, these things get hammered for the lack of authenticity and really it's just a naming/branding issue rather than anything fundamental to the dishes themselves.

It's a bizarre thing that you find in cookbooks and potluck recipes from the 1970s and 1980s. My grandma had a friend whose signature potluck dish was called "enchilada casserole" and was even less authentic than White People Tacos, and sliced black olives were a key ingredient. I don't know who thought, "We use taco seasoning, which is somewhat salty, and put everything in what's essentially a giant salted corn chip. What we need is ANOTHER salty ingredient, but maybe one that's a briny kind of salty instead of regular salty," but they were clearly crazy. That said, I do sometimes enjoy olives on my nachos.... Chicago people BEEN eating cheese (liquid), ground beef, with chips (your favorite) and peppers for years. I'm 36 I remember getting that as a teenager. You go to a gas station or a corner store to get it. Never with sour cream, or olives, or anything other toppings and if the store forgets to give you a fork or you are walking and have to get on the bus, you push it up and eat off the top, just don't put your mouth on the bag. Don't forget your drink!
Glad I have a Mexican store close by so I can get Al Pastor seasoned pork with authentic Salsa verde with cilantro and green onions. Goes great on corn tortillas.
I might try that "walking taco" idea. Reminds me of a dish they do in the New Mexico where they add spicy chili and cheese to a bag of Fritos. It's like 2 days worth of sodium in 1 bag though.
That’s what they always sold at Little League baseball games in Texas when I was a kid. A couple of mom’s with a crockpot of chili set up at a card table. We also used to layer it all plus onions in a casserole dish and bake it. Add some more Fritos and light layer of cheese at the end to make a crispy topping. Only we used Hormel Chili for the “walking” kind and Wolf Brand for the casserole. 🤷♀️ Yes, canned, not homemade chili because it’s meant to be simple, quick and easy.
@@tangyjoe4326 haha yeah I can see that. I had so much Hormel growing up, but last time I tried it a few years ago as an adult...man, that stuff is BAD! But if you add cheese and fritos, I could see it working just fine.

I get your point I'm sure people just say things like this race and that race because they don't understand the meaning of the word race while having a contextual need to group some people together, I'm sure 98% of people understand when explained that there's only one Homo Sapien race. White people maybe shouldn't be used by itself with the word people because it seems offensive to me who is a white American. Still, the issue is we can't say Northwest European when we're mainly referring to a group of American whites. Hence, we normally say Caucasian we know what group we mean but that word because of its history has become problematic, I'm prejudiced against many European countries for political reasons and anti-EU, so I don't like European going before American in European American I come from a long line of anti-EU sentiment. This leaves us with only one term to use when referring to that group of people "White American"
Ever had a Black Folks Taco? 🌮.. Their kinda like the White Boy Tacos, but they use Ground Turkey seasoned with them Taco seasoning packets. There not bad. There also was a Africano who made a name for himself in South Central who would sell Tacos, Burritos, & Nachos from his front yard driveway. Dude had a Line of people waiting for his food. Never tried them but it must have been Good because he made the TV News Channels.
Keith Garrett of All Flavor, No Grease started out selling from his house, but he also has a food truck now too. I believe I first heard of him from a Netflix show on Tacos or food and I'd risk it, as a white man, to go to South Central to try that delicious food.
I'd think you'd be ok going to South Central to eat. I've seen plenty of White Folks eating at popular food joints in South Central. There's a very popular Hamburger Spot called "Hawkins House of Burgers" in Watts across the street from one of the most Violent Housing Projects in Los Angeles, and I've seen White people there every time I go. Don't forget your drink!
not Keith from the Try Guys 😭😭
Glad I have a Mexican store close by so I can get Al Pastor seasoned pork with authentic Salsa verde with cilantro and green onions. Goes great on corn tortillas.
I can hear bells 😂😂
this video is great guys. these tacos are great. So, I appreciate the humorous video and you having a good time with these!
@ Haha. Well me and Hank Hill are from Texas and only use Wolf Brand Chili. But I would never eat it plain (only homemade for that) but it’s what I use for Frito Pie and on chili dogs.
Damn again at 5:10 Tiberio got jokes 😂😂
breaking news: white people can be mexican because that isn't a race
I like these guys you have on your show. Very good!
Hi, Tampon Tim here, disappointed you didnt make these with tuna and man-aze
2:50 Tiberio is cracking me up😂😂😂
Ever had a Black Folks Taco?
Just be yourself, be polite and respectful to everyone. Don't alienate yourself from enjoying life because of the color of your Skin. People are changing, like I said, just Be Yourself you'll be fine. @@jskelly1979
We have a taco and it's made with ground turkey?

White Boy Tacos ? LOL 😂🤣 They are TEX MEX TACOS !!!!!
I’m white folk, but love carne asada on corn tortillas. Cilantro, onion and pico de gallo with a little green salsa…..home made.

These are the cutest dads I've ever seen. I wish I had one.
"Damn. White people got something figured out right here"
🤣😂
i always add canned refried beans, and some pickled jalapenos and onions, with sour cream, shredded cheese, lettuce, tomato, and hot valentina, some like my mom like adding olives, also some soft flour tortilla for some burritos too
Our version of White People Taco:
White corn tortilla lightly fried, seasoned ground beef (local raised, grass fed beef, salt, pepper, chili powder, chipotle chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, smoked paprika), chopped onion, chopped cilantro, lime wedges, Tapatio. The end. Viva la Cali-Mex! 😂
White people tacos, always appreciate Buzzfeed racism.
Just another woke content creator. They were quizzing them on black history while eating soul food lol.
I'm not white and its not even necessary. It's cringe, lame, and childish. Just found this channel to.
*HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA was on a date and went to a Mexican taco place but it was closed date asks where to now? Taco Bell i said. she replied What kind of Mexican are you? A Hungry One!!! i love white people tacos too*
Really... "White People Tacos" =_= Sounds like this is a buzzfeed video.
Mexican Dads are so damn chill
as a 100% mexican (both my parents are from mexico), taco bell is kinda valid tbh its not that bad
When you want convenient food quick, we like taco bell too.
I love my Old El Paso tacos. Hard shells, ground beef, seasoning, lettuce, and cheese. That's all I have on them and they're delicious
When Did This Become The "White People" Way?
It hasn't, but this is 2024 and media puts little racialisms and disjointed characteristics on people's culture to create a false narrative.
The one thing that can unite all people... Tacos. Any tacos. Love it.
it's not authentic white people tacos without the refried beans!
That's right and they usually all come together
Ortega or the Old El Paso
That's how we did it the Old El Paso taco kit Old El Paso refried beans and Old El Paso Spanish rice
I didn't know That Title existed & The Thumbnail Made me Laugh!
It's kind of funny that they don't know who the try guys are LOL
White? I am paper white. About laughed my white ass off, too. Funny play on Tex-Mex.
So you're pink? I've never seen anyone as white as printing paper lol.
Try soul tacos “Black Peoples Tacos”.
I've never heard of "Black People Tacos". What is the receipe?
@@TX4Salvationthere ain’t no such thing 😭 every taco is Mexican with different cultural spins
Sounds like a bunch of cheap meat with sour cream, cheese and lettuce
Walking tacos ... we sold these at the football concession stand when my kids were in marching band.
As for the tacos, I do like corn tortilla shells, but I really love lightly fried/toasted flour tortillas to wrap around my taco fixins.
This is just basic Tex-mex.
exactly, its just taco bell.
@@krono5el its really not. ones fast food with fake meat and the other has real ingredients

I grew up in DC in the 70's and that was my first taco. I moved to LA in '98 and my mind was 🤦♂. A year later I went to Rosarito, Mexico and 🤯. I can count on one hand how many times I've had 'White People Tacos' since. 😁
Grew up making some version of these for dinner when Mom was working late. Delicious, messy fun for a 12yo. Both authentic and white guy tacos are great in their own ways.

Those aren't "white people tacos"; they're American tacos. I've seen people of all ethnicities eat them.
Yeah but that won't generate clicks, man. It's Keith's video so, of course it's gonna reek of 'buzzfeed'-esque shit.

“White Dads try ‘Mexican People Tacos’”
Tim Walz enters conversation and Maga's are melting down. I grew up on these and always called them white people tacos. lol
The first dad with the Tijuana T-shirt says Picante and close captions give you McCormick. The next time he says the word picante CC gives you piccone or something like that. Lol.
Ikr, it especially threw me because there IS a spicy McCormick taco seasoning packet (that and the la preferida are my go-to when I dont wanna take the time to make my own seasoning).
Olives in a taco? No
I know right
They are delicious, and it was the norm in the 'States until the early 90s!
@nikkirockznikkirockz8551 hell noo I have never heard or had black olives in tacos 🌮 noo they don't go with it
@nikkirockznikkirockz8551 that's a BS statement no it wasn't
My parents never baked the shells before serving. I grew up disliking them until I went to a friends house and they were baking the shells to crispify them. Changed my life.
There not called white people tacos. Texmex is the term.
The person who invented the Doritos Taco Shell deserves the Nobel Prize.
Nobody calls them white ppl tacos. They're just american tacos. Y'all making up ish at this point
He really said Lewberger looks like a bunch of nerds 😂
