I used to go to the place in Harlem when I was young, where the chicken and waffles combo was invented. It was called Wells Supper Club. He created it for jazz musicians like Duke Ellington and others, who were gigging all night but didn't have a chance to eat dinner, but it was almost breakfast time too, so hence the combo was born. When people heard about it they went nuts over it. I met him as a kid, then later as an adult I hung out there, when his widow was running it until it closed in 1999.
omg - Grew up in Wells. The owner's daughter & my mom were good friends for more than 40 years.
✊🏾❤️✊🏾💚✊🏾🖤As a black woman I can HONESTLY say that I lllloooovvvvee Mexican food. Oh! My! God! I can have
it every day. It warms my heart that these men love soul food. I grew up on these dishes. Salute kings!💯✊🏾🖤✊🏾💚✊🏾❤️✌🏾
This was so wholesome to watch them compliment the food and show their knowledge of our history. ❤ I'm glad they enjoyed it. I definitely need to learn more about other ppls cultures and histories.
I LOVE THIS!! Thank you guys!!! They already know we love Mexican food!! ❤❤❤💪🏽👏🏽✊🏽❤️🖤💚 🇲🇽 🇲🇽 🇲🇽
Love this, thank you! Black Latina with Caribbean roots that grew up in the U.S. I like my food seasoned. So after my mom's cooking, Mexican is my fave. But Soul and Creole is right up there!
Black Latina and Caribbean? I know your mama taught you how to throw down in the kitchen! That sounds like some amazing flavors coming together.🤤
I'm Jamaican and love soul food. I really like rice with black eyed peas and potato salad my American family members make
thanks, bae
I was going to say, we eat our black eyed peas with rice. And a good side veggie. (Smoothered cabbage , or greens or green beans ... etc )
Absolutely love this and I’m so glad you all enjoyed it. It’s much like me getting to know authentic Mexican and Hispanic cuisine and finding more similarities than differences. Food is a great teacher of cultures.
Nice Video. Loved it. I’m a black American female. Mexican is my all time favorite foods. 🤟🏾🤟🏾
Im Chicano and black. I was blessed enough to experience 2 beautiful and colorful cultures as well as 2 amazing cuisines. Shout out to my black and brown people mayne
The dude in the black has been around you can tell they all knows what good food is but the guy in the black T-Shirt he has been some places and he is a real foody. The gentleman who speaks in Spanish he has a good palate he can effectively describe what he tastes to the audience and you also know that he can cook. I'm sure they all can but he has been around the block, and as for the other guy he is well rounded food subjects life, they all did a great job.
Don't forget mac and cheese and the cornbread and the sweet potato pie, lol.
And Louisiana hot sauce for the collard greens 😋.
I would replace oxtails with Neckbones. Neckbones and Black eyed peas is the Traditional soul food meal. That’s prolly why the gentleman said add them with the Oxtails at 4:56
Oh no girl. Oxtails is on every soul food restaurant menu and neckbones is the poor man version you cook at home. I make them both though.
@@Thetruth00008 i was talking about the Neckbones are traditionally done with the black eyed peas and to have them together. Cause my first sentence sounded like “just eat the neck bones alone”. A lot of traditional black family meals are poor man’s meals because we were given scraps. Hence popularity of “chicken wings”. They were so cheap as to why they became a staple in black homes and then popular. Tails of animals were considered scraps as well.
@@terrim.9002 Yes I do believe they missed teaching that part about soul food and how our ancestors turned table scraps and parts of the animals no one wanted into delicacies such as the neck and tail.
Right @@terrim.9002
nah
I love them and the respect !! Now black folks try Mexican food!!! Like deep Mexican food !!

I love their knowledge of our history
He is right about the peas. You can make oxtails with white beans or peas and they had a sweet taste to the dish
The ones dad in the plaid is such a good food reviewer fr. Describing the visual and adding a story before even trying it.
