I've been listening to this for years, but I finally figured out an interpretation that seems to put all the pieces together: It's about being elderly, seeing everyone you grew up with grow frail and pass away, wondering what's on the other side.
I'm not sure if living to old age is a blessing or a curse. I don't know how so many elderly people can be so cheerful when they're at the end of their lives. I just know I'll be afraid once I'm there.

After listening to this song hundreds of times. I'm starting to think this is about someone suffering with dementia. "Softly torn to bits, floating far away" I interpret that as someone bit by bit forgetting small things, and it feels like they're slowing loosing their mind. "My friends keep going away, and I'm alone again" When actually they're not alone. The friends are still there. The person is just forgetting them. "I grasped your hand- it felt surreal but I held on tight" I interpret that as someone trying to keep in touch with reality, and trying to remember their friends, and memories they still have but, it's all slowly slipping away from them. The last line "I'm disappearing" shows that the person knows dementia is gradually taking them away, and they know that eventually they will loose the battle, and that they will loose themselves as a person.

i have to agree with this song a bit. i too have lost some friends...and at this age losing about 10 friends from death and moving is like choking a puppy dog. it hurts and you wonder "when will it be my time to go" i think this girl went though everything i went though...her comrades died or...just left...and she misses them so much but is also worried about herself decending...and she mustve worried to much and died at the end

this song is probably the most personal song i ever have listened to, i attached it as a theme song to one of my first OCs from when i was 15 that i keep very close to my heart and made a ton of artwork of. kikuo and hanatan are probably the best combination on planet earth. i wouldn't be able to obsess over a dynamic duo as much as them even if i tried.

It caused me to disconnect from reality even more and daydream, escape. But even my daydreams became unsafe now causing me to question everything and loosing purpose in everything. But since actual life is no better and just lonely I just find myself enjoying those thoughts that become darker every second
