This is a terrific radio friendly song and I honestly hope it makes waves and draws alot of people in to check them out and discover what else they can do.
That's exactly what I thought with Circle With Me. They are looking to expand their audience and that leads to playing in front of larger crowds on larger tours. "Fans" might complain but they deserve more recognition and they can't get that staying in the same place.
I agree!! Is the opening of electric cross bass? That's what it sounds like to me but I've seen some ppl sayinf that it's guitar. Sounds too huge to be a guitar imo.
Constance does it for me with the drums that just pierce through all that emotion and I absolutely love how there's like a bazillion time changes every song
Spiritbox is doing a thing that makes them stand out amongst all the other artists. Each song is unique, powerful and emotional. 10/10 would continue to listen
What are they doing different? People hate when bands who actually had a developed sound make this radio trash. For example some songs on the new Architects got hate for being softer as well as A Day To Remember. The production quality and riffs arn’t special either. Bruh yall just simping for that girl with the huge jaw
I love how this scratches both the melodic and catchy itch, in addition to the delicious musically complex itch at the same time. That bass work in this song!
Yeah this band wins. I think they’re arguably the most talented band in 2022, not just with Courtney’s absolutely gorgeous vocals, but with the musicianship as a whole. And the bassist has to be one of the bests in the world, he’s so goddamn underrated
This is far from my favorite spiritbox song, but it's still a damn good song.. so much better than most of the songs in my playlists. And that just speaks to how amazing they are. I hope they maintain this awesome balance of heavier tracks with slower/emotionally heavy songs.
Gotta thank you both here Nik, because I discovered Spiritbox through your Holy Roller Reaction and am now a diehard fan, having merch and preordered the vinyl Spiritbox, for their one of a kind music that helped me a lot these last months So thanks to all of you 💙
YES! I mentioned on Joao's livestream that the clean taps had a solid Tosin vibe. Regardless of that, I do love the restraint in this track. Simple but a lot of conplexity between the layers they've implemented. I've seen a lot of comments sadly lamenting because of how "generically composed" or "radio friendly" this is, but it would be such a waste for a band like this to not explore this direction. It's the same sentiment as to why I like ERRA's self-titled so much, so I reckon I'll find it very difficult to decide which will be my favourite 2021 album when Spiritbox drops theirs this September.
This song blew me away the first time I heard it! The ambience in this song is spine tingling and that legato is fire and, the chords are just crunchy as hell! Courtney's voice just brings it all together, you can't not love her voice! She is a goddess!
I’ve been going through some tough shit lately and this music is what I need. As much as I love metal these melodies and harmonies are what I so desperately need to get lost in. Thank you Nik and Spiritbox 🌹🌹🌹
I'm so looking forward to their album and it's one day short of my birthday as well! I love that's going to be so varied with Constance and Holy Roller and anything inbetween those extremes, and yet all so cohesively the same band. They deserve to be the great band of the 2020's and beyond and are the flagship of modern metal for me.
I love how lots of their songs Courtney's vocals are like therapeutic then bass and drums are absolutely shredding in the background. 🙌 You can hear every instrument so clear. Like peace and chaos together in harmony
Every sub genre metal is following a very narrow path, and here’s Spiritbox, way out in front just doing all of it better than everyone. The bassline with the pitch shifted 7 string makes the low end sound so insane. Love it. I’m highly anticipating “Yellowjacket” featuring Sam Carter. Courtney has said she feels that’s the heaviest track on the new record, and Sam Carter on anything is just unreal.
@@benrideout1191 I’m talking about what Mike is playing. It’s almost a call and response sort of thing between him and Bill on this one. Everyone things it’s just a bassline, so I’ve referenced it as such.

I remember being extremely hungover one day and just scrolling to pass the time when Holy Roller showed up in my feed. This band instantly blew me away and they keep surprising.
People keep throwing the word poppy in for this song. I think Spiritbox is creating this thing where catchy=poppy. Cause this is catchy AF. Sure the vocal chorus can be considered poppy I guess but that’s it. Listen to a pop song on the top 40 and then listen to this. Ain’t much poppy about it. It’s just really freaking good.

Mike is a beast. Honestly. He's one of the few people who actually get a pass on the "not knowing theory" thing to me. That said, maybe he has gotten the time to learn it since last I knew. Anyway, the fact that he doesn't know theory proper doesn't mean that he doesn't know what he's doing, he damn well knows what he is doing. He's killing it. You can't get to this level of proficiency by not knowing how to play. It's like an eloquent speaker who just never learned to read, it's not impossible to be an eloquent speaker who can't read, it's just the hard way to do it, much harder than just learning to read after gaining a little bit of basic understanding of how to speak. Music is a language, it is just a purely abstract one. You can not express specific, exact, denotative, precise things in the same way as words based languages can, but words based languages are completely incapable of expressing the same things that music can. It's closer to communicating directly in emotion, and I think that Spiritbox is truly pulitzer prize winning level of eloquent in this regard. Somehow there is an X factor, and a quintessence about the music they make. It's a perfect blend of varied musical ideas and influences, including prog, pop, metal, ambient, and even some hip hop underpinnings from time to time, depending upon your definitions of those things. It's simultaneously music to be taken completely seriously, and also has never abandoned a playfulness in the particulars of one element or another. Courtney is undeniably masterful, she's right up there with Tatiana and Lauren Babic, but of course very different than them in many ways. The bass is always stankface nasty. The drums are always utterly fantastic. You can hear everyone exactly how you should be able to hear them, I don't know what it is in the mixing that's different, or who does it, but they are constantly top freaking notch. My only complaint is one that many people actual disagree with, but I wish they took a somewhat less abstract approach to lyrics, I feel like some of the songs are so vague as to be difficult to understand what is even being said, or if that is even the aim. I know Courtney has said that she takes an approach to writing that is more about the interaction of the sounds within the words and music, and how that doesn't always lead her to be making any real specific points, but more about coming up with combinations of words that emphasize a broader emotional point instead of having more cohesive message. But I personally am always so focused on things having meaning, even if I don't agree with the point being made, that it feels like a waste not to also be trying to make a philosophical or theological point in your songs. Like, holy roller.. What is it saying? What perspective is being shared? Is it directly a shot at religion in general? Could be, but it feels like it is actually more nuanced than that, more like a shot at hypocrisy within some streams of religious thought.. But I can't really see enough evidence to say, either way, exactly what she means to communicate with that song.. And I think that "death of the author" (or to those unfamiliar with the concept, to pretend that there is no way of knowing what any particular person's point was, and taking a work as though it was formed in a vacuum without authorial intent) is at best naiive, and at worst does actual violence to the interpretation of anything, because it is foolish to assume we can simply decide what some thing means devoid of context, and the most relevant context to any text or work of art is the person responsible for it's creation in the first place. But if that person doesn't know what they meant, whether purposefully or not, then it becomes very difficult to interpret anything. Again, it just feels like a missed opportunity. Especially when it is couched in what is absolutely transcendently beautiful and compelling like the music of spiritbox really is. It is unbelievably good. It's like they can not put out a bad track. That sort of consistency is just not reasonable to expect for any band, and I can't imagine how they continue to drop banger after banger like this. So good it hurts.
