      Why are the heads up guide arrows in the road reflected onto the car hood? Also this game using a bunch of screen space reflections to simulate RT where it falls short. Also the car leveling system is lame. I would rather be able to buy upgrades, not unlock them by driving that specific car over and over again.

    I miss a lot of the starting out with a shitbox and working your way up to supercars feeling that classic racing games had. Too often the games throw the supercars at you from the start and you never look back.

      Agreed. For a horizon is my favorite racing series ever but I’ve hardly played the last one because there is zero sense of progress. I didn’t play for about a month and fired it up a couple of days ago and literally had twenty free cars waiting for me.

      @@andyward8430 I have something like 15 or 20 million credits in FH5, without VIP. Granted, I haven't gone crazy in spending in the game, but then I don't really have to either, and I've made a point of giving away all of my unwanted cars rather than selling them. In FH4, not only did the VIP system give you boatload of credits, but the whole business-story-thing that they added accumulates tens of thousands of credits every day, even when you aren't logged in.
      Meanwhile in FM4, the game that got me hooked, you started with a little hatchback and worked your way up. It was rewarding, dare I say addicting, and I loved that game.

    Recently went back and played FM4. Aside from the graphics looking a bit rough on a large screen, the gameplay holds up surprisingly well. I'd have happily taken a modern version of that. All the games from FM5 onwards just seem to miss something. I think its the same as what a few people are saying, the process of starting with an E-class road car and working your way up.

    • @mitchjames9350
      @mitchjames9350 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s they give you super cars at the start instead of having you start with a moderate car and build yourself up. Also Turn 10 in the earlier days focused on more realism.

    Well one thing about the horizon games that I thought was a bit annoying was how you could get the fastest cars and mod them to the max after 2 hrs. It was too easy. I like that they're making you work for the upgrades and new cars. More rewarding. (though I'll have to see myself exactly how they've implemented it)

      idk I like the sandbox style of horizon where you can get any car and go crazy with it. I think there’s so many racing games that have the “start with a clapped ek9 civic and end with a Ferrari f40” style of pacing that it’s kind of refreshing to have the freedom to just get whatever you want.
      I think it’s nice to have both styles of progression

    I'll try the game since it's on Gamepass, but the car points/RPG system has me extremely turned off. I enjoy setting up cars for specific purposes and treating the game as more of a sim. It makes zero sense to go through all of the effort to include better wheel support, better physics, better track scans, only to introduce such an arbitrary and gamified system such as this. This system will just lead to people trying fewer cars, rather than people dumping loads of time into the game to max every car as I'm sure some bean counter at Turn10/MS think they will. It will DEFINITELY lead to more people chasing the meta car in online racing rather than experimenting with other cars and builds because the game actively punishes you for doing that by wasting time that you can never get back.

    I’ll be honest, the whole caRPG/upgrade system is a real put off for me. Doesn’t feel like it belongs in a sim/sim-lite at all. Plus, Ive read/heard from multiple other outlets that, despite getting away from the Drivatar business, AI is still occasionally hyper aggressive, gets rubber-band catch up assists, and the occasional “opponent rocket starts off the line and can’t be caught” issue persists. Those are all things that made me lose interest in FM6 and 7.
    I’ll still try it out because Game Pass and all. Maybe I’m just getting old but it really feels, at least to me, that sim-lite racers peaked with GT4 and FM3. Everything since has been less impressive (outside of graphical improvements, of course).

  • @DawnOfTheOzz

    Sadly, my enthusiasm for this game is not at all huge compared to most others. This series and Horizon hasn't wowed me as much as in previous years. To me, Motorsport pretty much peaked at around the 3rd game when it introduced that calendar system in the single player campaign. That basically kept the racing from going stale and you were jumping from race series to race series each week. Horizon 3 still holds a place in my heart because I'm an Australian whose biased towards Australian locals in any game. But after that game, that series went downhill. Hell, I'd say the Horizon series was going downhill before that.
    Because what was missing in every other Horizon game besides the first one? A story mode. And boss fights in a racing game. You don't really get in later Horizon games. As for this newer Forza Motorsport, it's not exactly gearing me up towards excitement. Oh, and that "damage model" this game seems proud of? It looks like weak sauce. Damage modelling in racing games haven't reached the same intensity compared to games like GRID Motorsport, Project CARS 2 or, hell, even the Need for Speed Shift series had better crash damage.

      @@Blur4strike I think that's the right move. I'm playing it with a month of Game Pass now and I don't think I'll be buying it when that's done. There's not a huge amount there and it all gets very repetitive quite quickly (in career mode). The upgrade system isn't as bad as some made out but it's not good either, far too restrictive. It's almost like driver skill plays no part because you start from scratch with every car.
      Then there's optimisation issues on PC. The racing itself can be sorted but FPS is all over the place even above 60fps and the menus/cutscenes are a crap show. I'm definitely waiting for more content and a good sale.

    No race cars in career mode makes this game a non-starter for me. I had hoped that a game with “Motorsport” in the title would be more focused on race cars and the long history of motorsports as well as different types of race cars, from open wheel to sports cars and prototypes. I have no interest in racing road cars on racetracks-been there, done that.

    • @benn87
      @benn87 ปีที่แล้ว

      Apart from the fact that there are no real race cars in career mode, the successive championships are far too similar, so that there is hardly any sense of progress. Also, the upgrade system doesn't work for me at all the way Turn10 wants it to. Because you need a new car for each championship and the championships are far too short to completely upgrade a car, you don't really build a relationship with your car as Turn10 intended.

    I just don't see how a game that is supposed to represent motorsport doesn't even allow you to properly experience motorsport. Classes are not fleshed out enough, no qualifying, and lack of actual racing series.
    I just think Forza Motorsport advertising and marketing is way off to what the actual game is. It is the series that got me into real life racing and more hardcore sims, but once you take that dive this game just loses its appeal completely.
    It feels impossible to find a racing game that represents motorsport properly while also being a good game. Most sims are terrible underdevelop games while FM may be good as a game, but is terrible as a simulator of actual motorsport.

    It lacks the grid adrenaline and racing feel. Feedback is ok but it lacks the race feel. Grid had it. Project cars 3 even had a race feel. Although it failed in other area.

    Do the cars feel like they’re on rails? Rubber banding when far ahead or behind?
    Do you just start in the back every time and easily pass up to 4th and then it’s challenging or are all the cars a very similar talent and more competitive with each other too?

    • @DoWorkNP
      @DoWorkNP ปีที่แล้ว

      No the cars don't feel on rails at all. You will have to really try and dial in uour inputs and driving techniques to get fast lap times when you first get a car until you can get actual race tires. The ai is decent. Better than GT7 by leagues but no where near as good as iracing or ams2. It is pretty funny sometimes because they really try and get ahead of each other and end up taking themselves and other cars out. Adds a sense of realism. Atleast more realistic than ai that just follows each in a straight line and never leaves their pre-determined path. You practice before each race and you will see the lap times between you and all the opponents. You choose where you start. You cab set yourself in the position you actually qualified or you cab set yourself farther back to get a bigger bonus if you win. It's not bad actually. The races feel like actual races and not starting the race in a line with the lead car 45 seconds ahead, and 1/4 of a lap ahead.

    Saying Forza is a racing sim (and F1 and GT for that matter), is like saying Call of Duty is a war sim. It's more sim-like than some other titles (like Need for Speed) but it's not really comparable to true racing sims (like iRacing). That's not to say it can't be fun and enjoyable and even challenging though! I have a lot of fun with F1 and (to a lesser extent) GT myself, and F1 can be quite challenging indeed. GT can be challenging too, but only if you introduce some custom rules for yourself, like going from back to front with a lap limit in a much worse car on the highest difficulty setting without going off-track or colliding with anyone.

    Just a heads up to those who are unaware. If you buy this game, you are only buying a demo pass to the cars and tracks. Saving progress and accessing the unfinished career mode is locked behind a server connection (We may as well call it the content pass). Once the server goes offline, so does your content pass and with it your ability to access most of the game's features.

      Here's the text from the support page, I'd link it directly but TH-cam won't let me:
      "Players who have fully installed Forza Motorsport can create their own single-player races in Free Play even if they aren't always connected online.
      Free Play includes a comprehensive collection of cars, tracks, and options so you can customize the racing to your liking including time-of-day and weather conditions.
      An online connection is required to save your progress in Free Play. This is because the car-building mechanic is a primary driver of the in-game economy for all of Forza Motorsport - to help us ensure the security and fairness of the game for everyone, we’ve opted to make progression server-based, which will require an online connection.
      You also need to be connected online to access other parts of the game like the Builders Cup Career Mode, which is designed to evolve and expand overtime - we'll be regularly introducing new championships and events, as well as pulling in your friends’ Drivatars and cars to your single-player experience."
      So in short, saving progress is locked behind a server connection, only some of the cars and tracks are accessible without a server connection and the "evolving" single player career (which also requires a server connection) means it's unfinished and they are using corporate jargon to make it sound less bad and pass it off as something revolutionary. We've been able to have perfectly good career expansions for years in the form of well... expansion packs, which unless for an MMO, have pretty much all been perfectly playable without a server connection.
