    Great video! My friend and I have used Crescent Lake as a base camp for riding for about 40 years. Such a great area! By the way, when you're checking out the lake at 3:56, you're looking at Cowhorn Mountain, not Diamond Peak. When you ride to Summit Lake, it lies in a saddle between Cowhorn and Diamond Peak. So much fun!!

    This was a fun series on Oregon Back Country Discovery Route 6.
    I always think of the Oregon Back Country Discovery Routes as the original. I think of the other BDRs as modeled after the Oregon Back Country Discovery Routes. That is because to the best of my knowledge the Oregon routes came first. Another interesting thing about the Oregon Back Country Routes is that there is more than one of them. The other BDRs are intended to be just a single line through a state.
    One of the things that I really liked about the three videos that you recorded of this route was your use of the intercom audio. I use to really enjoy riding with my wife when we could point out hazards and great views to each other. It is fun to hear others riders do similarly.
    Do you have intercoms for you wife's helmet and Little Dork's helmet? What is the most challenging section of unpaved road you have done with either your wife or daughter as your passenger?

    • @DorkintheRoad
      @DorkintheRoad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't really ride 2up at all. My daughter has her own bike and my wife has no interest in riding. Kudos to you if you ride 2up off road, though. Sounds fun and challenging.

    • @erniecolussy1705
      @erniecolussy1705 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DorkintheRoad On unpaved roads we generally road on separate motorcycle. It was usually some unplanned exploring on trips that were planned as two up praved road trips. There was also a ride taking my step daughter on unpaved roads that require a driver's license.
      That does lead to another question. In Washington state there are some sections of unpaved road connecting OHV trails that do not require street legal vehicles or a driver's license. This permits families to ride together including the children that are too young to have their driver's license. Are there any parts of any sections of the Oregon Back Country Discovery Routes that are like this?

  • @rideoregonfirst

    I love that great bad road from Crescent up to Summit Lake! I once rode up to Summit Lake at 5pm and 100 degrees. I stripped off all my clothes and jumped in. When I got out, the mosquitos were so bad I got bites on all my privates before I could put up my tent fast enough to climb inside for the night. Worst night camping ever!
    The Cascade Discovery Route shares that stretch of Wilderness edge road with Route 6 OBDR.
    BBST....Big Bike Single Track, indeed!

    That kind of trail is exactly what we have mostly here in Michigan forests where we ride. Little less climbs and hills but same sand and dirt trail types. Kind of why I wanted the DR 650. Doing it alone I don't think 450 plus pound bikes will be wise some days ..😂 Nice waterfall ! Good job guys.. Good edit job.

    Congratulations on completing your first official BCDR section. It's what defines ADV riding: be flexible and resourceful when the situation requires you to be. Appreciate your start and finish editing where you include the quiet and solitude of the campsite. The track confirms the wisdom of not needing 100hp, 500 pound rig to enjoy the vast majority of ADV off-road routes. But Coors Light?

    Dork I love your videos! I found your channel 8 months ago when I was looking for a dual sport. I got a Drz 400 after watching your videos and others showing how great of a bike it is. You then had me thinking about a Twin after seeing all the shenanigans you had on it. Well I decided I was more interested in the KlR instead and as I was researching them your klr videos came out a few days later.
    You helped steer me into buying the adventure model earlier this week. I even went to power motorsports but I ended up with a better deal at Bob Lamphere . Please keep the great videos coming and please don't get a different bike at least not for another year. I don't want to have to change bikes again..........How do you think your KLR would do on this section of the route?

    Apparently, Versys is very capable machine. Not by design, though. But her engine is a breeze! Too bad Kawasaki didn't come up with the idea to fit that engine into KLR650 (the old lightweight one). They'd make a machine everyone is dreaming of: powerful smooth low maintenance ADV bike within 400 lbs wet!

      Now, that you've had some seat time with your klr. Do you think if you had the chance to take it on this trip it would have performed just as good? I'm on the fence about buying a new klr. I have owned a 96 gen 1. How does yours perform on the freeway at speed say 65 to 75? At those speeds my gen 1 would get those headshakes and rattle you to death.. Exaggerating alittle but, not really. Alot of reviews say it's alot smoother than the previous models. I do, enjoy your videos.
