After I watched Oregon Moto John, I installed on my 24 790, heated grips and a heated seat. If your heated grips plug is around the steering column then the install is a piece of cake. I wasn't sure if the grips and seat would get hot enough. They work really well and get really hot. Makes a big difference on cold days. Worth the extra cost.
"Light and lean" applied to the 470lb in stock form 790. It is what it is. Every little bit adds weight. I have an 890R and it is a great bike, but on any real dirt ride I ride a 690.
I like the fact the KTM hasn't given you any problems. My 1290 never gave me any problems in 5 years except once when new my gas cap wouldn't open and my 701 hasn't given me any problems in the last year. Except the seat does suck. Thanks.
The Tusk 2Tracks are awesome for the price! I had them on my Tuareg 660 and they are just as good as Motoz at a fraction of the price. Now I wouldn’t call 470 plus lbs lightweight. This is why I sold my Tuareg and got a used Husky 701. I wanted something more manageable in the super technical stuff that I can pick up fully loaded without help. The 100lbs less make a huge difference.
Another great video! Really enjoy your down-to-earth insight and opinions on all things adventure riding. Can't wait to get a bike that I can take off road.
You have to love dogs don’t you, chewy chewing the leaves. Oh yes, back to the bike awesome mods love the lights foot pegs and of course the seat I need to explore the seat concepts for my 2017 Africa twin thank you for the video Ben looking forward to the next one.
21,000 fun, fun miles on my 890R, zero issues....so much fun I bought a 21 690 R.................also really fun! ....nobody else builds bikes like this.
@@DSplatter Too much time on the internet and all you will hear is disaster. The reality is lots of 890 owners are having too much fun riding to waste time online.
@@bradsanders6954 nah, I’ve seen a rough mix of both sides of the coin. Too many variables to tell what the main culprit(s) are, but it doesn’t help reading the many dealer horror stories. But I’ve heard a lot less horror stories on the 790.
@DorkintheRoad Dude, I love your channel. You're my Go To guy on DS and ADV motorcycles. You're the average guy, next door, like most of us. Keep up the good work. Your reviews seem honest and not a fluff job. I'm 64, been riding and racing bikes since the late 60's. EXCELLENT !
Crazy this is lighter than the Himalayan and the ibek 450. I’m just worried about the reliability issues. Interesting to see soon the 2025 ktm 390 adv.
19800 miles on my Husqvarna 901 now just put it on the tender for winter as it supposed to snow tonite , zero visible cam wear valves within spec not a single hiccup
thanks for the video, my dude. 2 questions. 1. Have you ever done a review of the Suzuki V-strom? I can't find any of your videos with one in it. 2. what does B.D.R. stand for? Thanks in advance for your hard work. I know it can't always be easy putting out constant content as you do but we all really appreciate it.
PSA on the vibration dampeners: quad lock makes no guarantees and they aren’t perfect. My iPhone 12 mini’s camera busted after about 5 hours total riding with it attached to my xt225 (short trips mostly) and then DR350 (longer 3ish hour ride) using their bar mount and vibration damper. They offered to send a replacement vibration damper if I got my phone fixed but that’s it. Singles can still kill your camera.
Ben, See if you can research what’s the mod Kove did to the 790’s engine before committing it to their 800 Pro, increasing oil pressure to the head to save those cams. I understand KTM put like 3 different oil strainers and they really dropped the oil pressure going up to the cams and valves. I bet it’s proprietary but it would be great journalistic work if its a simple fix every 790/890/901 owner can enjoy 🍻🍻
What "you've heard" and what has gone on, seem different. Oil pressure on 890 or 790 is only an issue online. KTM has had some bad cams. Now all people talk about is cams. Everyone has created their own reason for a cam issue. There is one screen they added in the head, doesnt change oil pressure. Cams are updated and only a small % have been affected from the start, like 2% or less. Again the internet has turned this into ALL 890's and 790's have the problem. Its like a fantasy has been created around this cam thing that grows and grows.
@@justsomedude445 SO many people are out riding tons of these 790's and 890's having the time of their life, while online the moaners can do nothing but make $hit up and never stop whining.
Dork, Love your content. You are by far my Best, Internet Riding Buddy. I've grown as a rider in large part from some of your earlier riding tips. I ride a DR650 here in Southern Georgia, lots of sand and clay backroads. Love your BDR and ride/camp videos. Thanks for doing what you do.
These mod's are making sense for heavy use, this is not something i would consider as i use my 790 few times a week but this is really looking good for a real adventure driver. I have seen many of your videos and i quite like your style. You share what you experience but you don't teach which is very nice. PS, i have clicked the like button. Now, i have two questions for you, do you experience cold start issues and stalling at low speed ?

Does this bike have any issues with the cams like the previous with this motor? Any other reliability issues/concerns?
How would you compare KTM 790 to Nordern 901. How is the engine heat?
